This all sounds interesting if you like the "can make no wrong choices" design way of Banalce :balance:

Level up skills as you use them means you don't pick wrong skills.
Getting special bonuses and attacks no matter if you make someone friendly or angry means you cannot make wrong choices.

Deciding on important effects of the world during character creation is the most hilarious one. I bet they are not going to let you make such big decisions during gameplay itself.

- four character party
- friendship/rivalry companion affinities, each with their own bonus
- action-oriented RTwP gameplay with ability combos and over the top combat maneuvers
- a darker, grimmer setting full of shades of grey, "not the usual high fantasy"
- developed by a portly bald man with a goatee and a jolly disposition

Where the fuck do you saw a "darker, grimmer setting full of shades of grey" in Dragon Age II? You had the typical good samaritan and evil sociopath options in most quests, which resulted in the same outcome anyway, and that was it.
Friendship/rivalry/hatred bonuses was already made in Alpha Protocol before DA II.

The combo example mentioned in the previews did sound a bit retarded and too much over the top, I agree and in fact I have some doubts on how the gameplay will turn out, but it's too little to call it Obsidian's DA II.

Strap Yourselves In Pathfinder: Wrath
While Obsidian stated that we work for the evil overlord, I already get the sense that the overlord is not that evil and he just wanted order. I just do not see how that characterization will play out. My assumption is that we will be surrounded by "chaotic retarded" characters and we can either be chaotic retarded as well or just be chill.

My main hope is that you can play as a manipulator (Kreia, Neutral Incarnation from PST come to mind) as opposed to just a mage or warrior.

I dunno, the Scarlet Chorus faction mentioned in the previews doesn't seem too chaotic. Looking to recruit a Beastman while the bumpkin villagers want to kill it.

I actually like that version of evil. We are basically one of Darth Vader's Inquisitors soon after Palpatine won sent to quell the rebels and bring "peace" to the galaxy

I would love that too ArchAngel, but I do not think they will get a Darth Vader character though. Still, I would love a manipulator option in addition to a Darth Vader option.

True, nothing in the description gives off a chaotic retarded vibe by itself just yet. Moreover, I am being negative, but that is only because this concept feels much harder to pull off for Obsidian.

They were going for it, but didn't quite deliver it.

Hawke was gonna be a revolutionary MC and all that, but all he was is some scoundrel of a mercenary acting on his selfish reasons and his companions'. Since he ended up as a force to be reckoned with in Kirkwall, he finally was involved with all the Chantry vs Mages shit, which was uninspired as fuck, but still sold by some as a great piece of storytelling.

The environment also pretended to be dark and gritty but failed miserably. Take those bone fuckers from the Deep Roads, they look sinister and are beefed up but they're just regular enemies in the end.

Ugh, hope not. I don't mind if that's what he says, because that would be just propaganda, but I really hope that's not his real motivation. Is it really that difficult to design a character who is just motivated by a consuming desire for power and control? It's not like our real world lacks these people.

Hope they play safe with this game, because we know how "let's change the face of fantasy" experiments end up.

Yeah, the one hope for evil in this game is that it's evil from the perspective of the l1berals at Obsidian.

They need to go all out with evil shit, not play it safe.

I was meaning to go with a tamer setting instead of a tamer brand of evil. I. e. not reinventing the wheel and all that, because there probably won't be enough budget to do it.

I believe terrat is a form of terreo, which is the verb for 'to incite fear'.

How the cartographers of this world knew they would eventually be conquered by a fearful overlord will presumably be explained in the prequel.

Maybe there's an ancient evil imprisoned below the land, and the area is named for that?
