There are no English voices and the understanding mastery comes from dialogue choices with Scion in the story mission where him and Albus have dinner while Scion complains about working too hard then they join up with Hexing. Replay the mission and pick different dialogue options

I can already see the next update from DandyLion:

"We just learned that a guy on the internet wants English voiceover, which is currently missing. We are deeply sorry for this shortcoming, and we hope that our good American friends can forgive us for this inexcusable lack of respect. To solve this unfortunate problem, we plan to release American voiceover tomorrow morning, along with Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Simplified Chinese."

Imagine having this much of a hard-on for, specifically, American accents... and whining about voiceovers

Can't decide whether it's more or less embarrassing than, I don't know, developing Black Geyser

Understand? Isn't the voiceover basically only for the battle cries? Who cares?

Listen, what's better, playing Street Fighter II and hearing "Hadouken!" or "Wave Motion Fist!"? Bet you feel retarded now, huh?

They could probably introduce some English voice-overs for the combat (like the XCOM games). It would be nice. But it's probably very low on the developers' to-do list. If they opened up the game to modding a bit, they could let other people do that (like people created voicepacks for the XCOM games).

Thing is I've got a chunky itch for a gaym in this bracket - TB combat in an isometric arena, complex, rogue (preferable, not necessary). Any reliable tips? Blackguards? Banner Saga? It's not what I usually play so I'm kindda blind here.

Or they could not and avoid the cringe. :M

Having now tried the game a couple hours, uh, yeah, nobody ain't missing nothing from the voiceovers/barks. It's a low budget combatfag game and that should just be fine with any Codexer.

I started on Hard and the first couple missions were absolutely easy mode, even though I turned off tutorials. The last one I did is where you rescue civilians and meet villain!!! lady for the first time. I assume this is still in "basically tutorial" phase, yeah?

I think the first time the game really gripped me was the first optional violent case I did. Having a mission take close to an hour and a half, losing a few characters within the first 20% of the map and realizing "okay, shit is getting real" and taking things much slower, having a massive shoot-out for 30 minutes or so, slowly advancing and barely finishing the mission. Those moments become more common as you're slowly starting to utilize the mastery and skill system better and better. It's definitely a slow starter, I'd say when you get your 5th character things are starting to become more complex as you will be supported by less and less disposable NPCs that are essentially just meatshields, and run the risk of quickly losing one or two characters within a single round. As each of them fulfills a single role and they often do not have counterparts to these roles yet, you will quickly have to adapt your strategy or lose the mission.

Mission screens like these were fairly common once I moved past the initial stages that are easing you into the game systems.

What I like most is the fact that each character fulfills a unique niche. Anne is the dedicated healer, but can also become a pretty massive damaging spell-caster. The main concern when Anne dies early is surviving as you are suddenly losing your healer. But you can still finish the mission, you will just have to adjust your strategy accordingly. Same applies to Albus dying as your tank, or when Irene is Lone Wolfing and flanking into the backline, and suddenly she drops dead and you have to quickly take a defensive position as you will now be swarmed from multiple sides. The game is surprisingly well balanced, even with specialized characters dying you can adjust tactics on the fly and still win the mission, whereas in a lot of other tactical games of a similar nature your squad either makes it out alive in one piece, or none of them do.

The game wants you to break the mastery system, then it curve-stomps you with new enemies, or old enemies with new units, or by using the map against you in the most unfair ways possible. Like it would happen if people had the time to set up a defense perimeter and you had to break into it.

Say goodbye to your rushing tactics once the first sniper shows up. Theres a before and an after when it comes to that enemy type.

You can still rush snipers since they telegraph their headshots. Lay down smoke and charge your units forward.

Yes that's another exemple showing troubleshooters is a very deep game, therre's several way to tackle this. Smoke cloud, using gisele as sniper too, using albus and hexing teleport abilities to throw them on top of buildings.

I haven't had any problem with snipers yet, but maybe that's because I'm running with Impulse Field on every character, and they rarely get to take a shot before Irene reaches them thanks to her ridiculous action time reductions and kick them in the face.

On the other hand, those fat guys that drop Impulse Field have been a giant pain in the ass.

Shoot those guys with a ranged attacker first. Then when they close in, finish them with either Albus or Irene. If you're feeling lucky, you could try bladestorm for Albus since it may allow him to attack twice.

Or you run into a bunch of guys just chilling out, that aren't even supposed to be attacked during the mission, but because you wanna go all completionist and explore the entire map, you accidentally run into their camp.

Once Snipers and enemies with Impulse Fields/Indomitable Will and the other damage reduction masteries show up, I started actually using grenades and other tools more regularly. Smoke grenades work wonders against snipers as they provide immunity to headshot, and gas grenades/bleeding are great to trickle down tanky enemies. Wind pressure grenades are great too when you manage to knock a few enemies into each other or into walls for a few easy stuns.

I love how the game adds challenges in layers but also offers multiple ways to deal with these challenges, which is certainly better done than in most other games of similar making.

I just wish it would actually get to the promised interesting bit. I just finished the food market fight which was more interesting in setup but still god-mode roflstomp on Hard. I can already see how this might end up being an awesome game, but nobody should get a free pass for wasting 5+ hours of your life on the tutorial.

Right now, compared to other XCOM-ish games, it feels like you can just stand in the open and enemies miss/graze you. I imagine that changes completely later.
