I want to see George Ziets creative lead another rpg. Make it happen Obsidian, failing that hire him already Fargo!

This might not be totally beyond the realms of possibility, of course (not as a creative lead, I mean the hiring part); Fargo teased 'surprise' devs to come on board, he pushed the idea that MotB had been Torment's worthy spiritual heir in the RPS interview when he was introducing Kevin Saunders, and he'll have observed from the Eternity stretch goal that George's name can get a bit of a buzz going amongst the unruly masses. No idea if that'd work schedule-wise, but George hasn't given the impression that Obsidian will be able to keep him on once he's finished his work on PE, so...

And yeah, that pic's pretty tasty. So presumably the Bloom is the city/vast interdimensional predator Colin McComb mentioned?

Don't YEAAAAH so quickly, hiver. There's a good chance the fans will choose real time.
This^
Codex is not the sole fanbase of Torment.
Many different people storyfags consider it a great/the best CRPG, from Bioware/BG2 fans to Wicher fans. Not all of them like TB.
And if like BrotherNone said the combat will be resolved quiclly and not focused on tactics, it doesn't play in the strengths of TB.
Even if they choose TB it won't be nothing like TOEE

And i can't believe that you are happy that they will decide this asking the backers.Have you read the comments on kickstarter pages of P:E and W2? Or their forums?
FFS some people who backed W2 asked for romance. You can't go wrong asking the fans:troll:

Yes im relatively happy.

Because it is an option - instead of there being none.

This is entirely and abysmally stupid since TB strength was never prolonged battles. It is also a blatant strawman argument.

The strength of TB system is primarily that it puts the player on exactly same footing as the game/Ai itself mechanically - and in tactical and strategic decisions being the focus.
Tactics and strategy of combat is what both Fargo and Kevin confirmed.

One of the most common critiques for Wasteland 2 combat was exactly this wrong perception of duration of TB combat and that is something Wasteland 2 itself will address - that is confirmed- part of the design.
If it needs to be further adjusted - it can be.

TB system does not mean that combat needs to be a big part of gameplay or that it must last long.

FFS some people who backed W2 asked for romance
And? How did that end?

Even if they choose TB it won't be nothing like TOEE
You know this because you see the future?
Or is this another cheap remark that isnt even relevant?

Actually, yes, we know this.

This game isn't going to have deep, engrossing TB combat, even if it has TB.

Im just thinking about filling a lottery ticket. Mind telling me the numbers?

btw, if it ends up with Tb system its going to use Wasteland 2 system.

Why go for RtwP combat if you guys will already have a fully working and tested Turn based system from Wasteland 2?
That’s a great point in favor of turn-based (TB) combat, and of course we’ll be looking to leverage as much from Wasteland 2 for Torment as makes sense.

TOEE had shit encounters for the most part so let's not go and call it the holy grail of turn-based. KotC had better combat despite cutting away stuff that could not be implemented on the rudimentary engine.

Anyway, the thing that I liked most, was the "synergy between combat and narrative" comment. I find this very important for a story-heavy PST-like game. Combat mechanics should never contradict the lore.

2D or 3D? Depends on the money http://www.formspring.me/ksaun/q/415986235991938682

Are you thinking about using pre-rendered backgrounds like Project Eternity does? I'd say that the art was a very important aspect of Planescape as it really complemented the atmosphere. Tim Donley did a great job.
[Variations on this question also asked by Rehvenge4 and Manaf82.] This is an important question. We are looking to create a style/feel that is reminiscent of PS:T, but we’re still exploring what approach we’ll use. The answer will depend in part upon what funding level we reach with Torment – we are looking into various options and their required resources so that we can have realistic goals (and make realistic promises) for the game’s art. (While of course we want to make the game look as great (and “Torment-y”) as possible, we’re not going to shelve the project if we aren’t able to afford the graphical approach we would all really want.)

(Yes… I read an interview with Tim in which he downplayed his role on PS:T, but having worked with him some, I suspect he understated his contributions. =) )

See, I told you guys 2D isn't always necessarily the cheaper option. Surf Solar, start saving up money :smug:

2D in the Eternity style is more expensive, yes. They create and render high-quality 3D backgrounds, create an image from them, and then "handpaint" over that image. That adds another level of expense. You then have to be clever about integrating lighting effects and 3D graphics with the 2D background. It wasn't always the case, but right now 3D is the cheaper option. Eternity's graphics are more expensive than Wasteland 2's, no doubt. But it'll look better, too, so hey.

Going with PE style of visual art would certainly be a good incentive to get more funds, or maybe even a very, very strong stretch goal.

The fact that Obsidian is already working on the technical side of it and is using Unity - makes the whole deal much better and at least somewhat cheaper in resources and time - then doing it by yourself completely from the ground up.

Hang on a tick. I thought these were thirteen pages of extremely bored Codexians arguing and making wild predictions with almost no concrete information available, but I see that the Numenera setting has been chosen for Torment: Successor. Post-apocalyptic sci-fi/fantasy hybrid? I might be able to conjure up some fucks to give about this project, after all.

The setting itself seems interesting, but my days of dorking around with tabletop games are behind me.

SOMETIMES I DO.

Should probably get in the habit of reading it once daily, but often I only check cRPG Discussion and General/Strategy/Adventure Gaming.
