Before long, they'll be listing "NO LAG, NO HACKERS, NO DRM IN SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGN!" on game boxes as a feature.

Adjusted.

I find the act of "trolling" loyal Blizzard customers who actually supported the Diablo franchise since day 1 (unlike the casuals) and making fun of their position reprehensible. That's not how you treat customers. I'm glad though you were able to get a laugh at the expense of those loyal customers that only wanted the unique Diablo feel to persist.

Oh no how dare they put an amusing easter egg into the game it totally kills my immersion TIS AN OUTRAGE I SAY I AM A LOYAL CUSTOMER AND I DEMAND TO BE TREATED WITH RESPECT.

Torchlight was too boring, in what way does this improve over the original?

Hard to say since it's still just beta. Co-op would be the main improvement, but I'm not loving co-op because it's not really needed (difficulty is fine solo) and there's isn't really anything that co-op specific, like combining spells and powers or you pull that lever and I'll pull this lever type stuff.

It's surprisingly similar to Torchlight 1. Lots of the audio is exactly the same, voice acting is the same, icons are the same. Classes tweaked a bit but still kinda the same. Surprised it's taking them this long to make it as there's so much getting re-used.

In Pre-Ordering Torchlight II, you get a free copy of Torchlight 1 which I already own. If someone who has a STEAM account would like a FREE copy of Torchlight 1, answer the following:

What film has the quote "You are receiving this broadcast in order to alter all of the events you are seeing."

And post your STEAM account name and I will gift it to you. If anyone is interested. First Poster wins.

Embermage IS OP.

With Twinferno weapon set I was dealing 500-900 dmg per shot. 95% of monsters were one shot kills.

The rest of classes are way harder to play as.

I lack the wit to put something hilarious here
I've got a beta pass until Thursday. So far I've been surprised. The graphics are really good, the animations fluid, particle effects are good and so forth. It does however suffer from the same fate as all 3D Diablo clones - I can't make out shit with all the particles flying around (Titan Quest was probably the least annoying in this department). The classes are pretty interesting, all appear to have a wide palette of skills and I can see the potential for a big variety of builds. The game feels very good, combat is very... kinetic, there's a real oomph to it, and there are some nice movement skills (backflips and whatnot). The first Torchlight's loot problem appears to be here as well, as in there is too much loot so you don't really get attached to any item as a better one will drop pretty soon. The world is kinda meh, I don't really see myself replaying the game at higher difficulties. But for 20 bucks I'd buy it, I can see myself beating the game a few times with different classes if I have some friends to play with.

Started a Beserker tonight, it would appear to me that the main stat for he zerker is Strength. Most of the available/obtainable skills were %Weapon DPS converted into Physical damage, which would mean Str gives more damage, but also boosting Str gives a bigger crit damage modifier, for when you hit frenzy mode. With Embermage looking to be able to just pump Focus (Veteran works, a few deaths, didnt get around to poking Elite like I wanted) perhaps the 4 classes are assigned one main stat each...

PoE is nice, the skill gems are an amazing idea, the 6 'classes' are more like races and just determine your starting point in the skill forest/web and from the few days I had in open beta I will definitely be keeping an eye on it, but I have pre-ordered TL2 and am quite happy to wait for that. If they both come out at the same time im going to rage, then find out which one plays best on my shitty Netbook. DoomRL works nicely, be a shame to let that lunch break be eaten up by clicking on a trackpad.... yeah fuck that idea.

This game is fantastic fun on Elite, which is the difficulty I selected. This is coming from someone who thought Diablo 2 and Torchlight 1 were pretty boring.
I'm having trouble thinking of why, I really just think it's the combat mechanics, they feed good. It's like they nailed shooting feedback in an FPS, or fluid unit control in an RTS, that sort of thing. Also compared to what I saw of Diablo 3 Beta, the classes have much better spells, much more fun spells. My first time playing through I was a Mage, and at one point I unded up using spells in a combo for the first time: High level storm vortex, fire pillars, astral ally (which is such a great spell), and Infernal Collapse, cleared out a massive wave of enemies, and good grief that was satisfying. And I've heard Embermage is one of the weaker classes, compared to Engineer and Berserker.
I also made an Outlander and I'm making him a mage with his default spell, and that seems to work well. Game is just fun.

I will admit at first I didn't like the way the skill trees worked, where most spells are a one point wonder, but then I realized it fixes the problem I had with the way Diablo 2 forced you into a very specific and unflexible character build. Diablo 3 fixed it in a different way, but the skills in that game are pretty boring.

Now everyone's jumping on the TL2 bandwagon after Diablo 3 was shat upon~
This is sad but predictable opinion. It's not a good game that's better than Diablo 3, it must be a bandwagon. Derp

It excels on elite because that's pretty much the only difficulty level where you have to make use of the various mechanics/abilities to survive rather than just mash buttons at will. Only on elite will see the a lot of the synergy between abilities and how they can be used effectively to kill a horde of enemies. The various builds also feel fairly distinctive.

This is sad but predictable opinion.

I said the (non distorted) quote mostly in jest. That said, 70% or more of the Codex shit all over Torchlight 1. Some of the criticism was valid, although Schaefer made it pretty obvious that TL1 was more of a tech demo than a full fledged release.

If TL2 can fix their fucked up targeting issues from TL it'd be a huge step up. That was probably my biggest peeve as far as gameplay goes. I can deal with a "boring" game if I'm in coop but fuck that shit was annoying.

Unfortunately, yes, targeting is still a pain in the ass.

Why so butthurt?

I like what I see in Torchlight 2. Will probably get it. Now if only I got to play beta before it runs out, to really feel it for myself. That would help a lot not to make a mistake...

I think there's a key to target the closest enemy or something like that.

Played elite on 2 player coop. Was fucking hard. Then we ran into a boss who simply had too much hp and meatshields. Wish they'd lessen the hp-bloat somewhat.

Did they add level scaling to the campaign levels? My problem with the original is that you only needed to do a couple of side maps to make the rest of the campaign easy as fuck. I thought that was pretty stupid, particularly since they put a guy in town specifically for side maps, which i did as soon as they were available.
