What other trailer for any movie or game has focused on the main character getting the shit beat out of them relentlessly, for 3 minutes, outside of trailers for Saw, Hostel, and all of that other sleezeball shit?

Not many, because most trailers focus on making the main character look the epitome of cool, which is equally silly. DONT YOU WANT TO BE THIS AWESOME? YOU WISH YOU WERE THIS AWESOME
Mysteriously, this "Look at how vulnerable I am under the hard shell" shit seems to happen only to female protagonists. See also: Other M.

It's not mysterious at all. They're selling to teenaged boys.

Yet another way in which japanese propaganda ruined the youth of the west. The great MOEpocalypse is upon us.

In her lair of evil, Black Cat is giggling with glee and stuffies.

Looks incredibly retarded. I am a real big fan of legitimate grim dark settings, but this is just "TORTURE PORN RAPE THE BITCH" bullshit.
All I saw in the trailer is an unwilling girl forcibly dragged into the life of adventure. No torture rape porn.
I think it's quite a quite decent origins story - the first adventure being unwilling but the trauma alienating her from the society and normal life and pushing her to return to the front err... tombs.

The 3 minute trailer had the following happen in it:

- Woman wakes up not knowing where she is, restrained and helpless

- Gets set on fire within the first 25 seconds

- Gets impaled in the side by a sharp, rusted object after falling 10 feet

- Eats dirt after jumping on the rusted wing of a plane

- Gets bitten by a bear trap

- Gets restrained again

- Gets punched in the mouth

- Gets fondled twice

What other trailer for any movie or game has focused on the main character getting the shit beat out of them relentlessly, for 3 minutes, outside of trailers for Saw, Hostel, and all of that other sleezeball shit? The main focus of the trailer was not how cool she is because of killing bad guys, or crazy cinematic scenes, it was mainly oriented around Lara Croft being beaten senselessly or somehow getting injured. The main theme of that 3 minute trailer is injury, and the guy who made it, even made a point of it, to zoom in on the bear trap scene.
Wow. They must be putting the health regen mechanic to the maximum

One of the most violent rapes in gaming history AFAIK. Perfect mix of platforming, combat and exploration turned into a fucking VN.
Imagine turning Fallout into hiking simulator with broken combat and horrible writing.
Oh wait...

Looks like it will feature A LOT of quicktime events and scripted sequences.

Also something about nuLara looks different to me, but I can't quite tell what. I think her lips may be smaller.

Do yourselves a favor: Get Guardian of Light for $2 and enjoy. Probably the last actual 'Tomb Raider' game we'll see.

Anniversary was very good. I haven't played Underworld yet, but it's likely decent. In a world where most franchises are raped the Tomb Raider games have been remarkably well done as far as sticking to puzzles and platforming and not dumbing everything down too much or adding a ton of shooting.

Looks like this one might fuck all that up though.

Misandry in action.

It's also starting to happen with some male protagonists, Ninja Gaiden 3 has Ryu moping and whinning about killing people... After having a kill-count of thousands of people (or millions if you count the three Gaiden games).

I was going to say something, and it was going to be quite controversial for the Codex, but then I was reading this thread, and I forgot.

Underworld's good. Better than Legend, about on par with Anniversary.
Haven't tried the new trilogy yet. How does it compare the original games?

Legend is more action-oriented and the levels feel much shorter than those from the previous games. It's the worst of the new trilogy, but it's not bad. Controls are a lot more comfortable than in the originals and precision-jumping is less of a finger-breaker. While it is more action-oriented, with many shooty bits where you fight human enemies, it does have some puzzles that are pretty good.

Anniversary is basically a remake of TR1 in the new engine with some additional content and some original content removed. There are new gameplay elements like the grappling hook and some puzzles are different from the original, but in general the level design is very similar to the original. It's a very solid remake. Didn't like how they changed Lara's character, though - when she kills the bad guys, she feels bad about having killed people. Emotional engagement shit and all that. But nobody cares about story in a TR game as long as it's not intrusive, so whatever. Replaying the old TR1 levels with slightly different gameplay and modern graphics definitely makes this worth a playthrough (St. Francis' Folly <3).

Underworld is a large improvement upon Legend. It looks like the devs learned some lessons from remaking TR1 and the game feels a lot closer to the originals than Legend does. It's less action-focused, rather the focus is on the puzzles, some of which are really good and take a while to figure out. There's a good balance of puzzling and shooty bits in Underworld, with the focus clearly being on the puzzles, which is what TR is all about anyway. It's definitely my favourite of the new trilogy and a clear case of incline.

Yeah Legend is definitely the weakest of all the TR games. Too much action, too little tomb raiding. I still enjoyed it for what it was.
And the storyline is horrible, and what makes it worse is that there's much more focus on story than there was in the previous TRs. Goddamn mommy issues.

Anniversary is worth a play through, some pretty challenging and fun parts. Steam/Amazon has had it on sale for $5 quite a few times. Nothing to add about this new one - looks awful.

So how many great or even decent series have we seen raped within the last few or so years? There should be an official list. X-Com, Fallout, Jagged Alliance, Civilization, Splinter Cell, Disciples and Diablo. Now Hitman and Tomb Raider. What's next then, Thief?
Modern gaming
