I was immediately sold when I saw Romero. Perhaps it will have a similar plot to the legendary "Daikatana"? Some thingy that he's played in his PnP group?
I'm so excited! Squeeeeee!!

Have I pledged?

Of course not. I'm ditzy, not brain dead.

This conversation about how kickstarter isn't changing things is based on a fallacy. Kickstarter does not need to fund every single idea out there.

Here's the facts, because of kickstarter 50 million dollars has been put into the game industry directly from fans. Even if no project is ever successful again, that has made a difference.

I have the sick feeling that this kickstarter thing is going to start crashing brutally about a year from now. These people have already $140,000 thrown at them by sitting in front of a camera for 5 minutes and telling you almost nothing about their intentions. It would be like going to a bank for a business loan and saying "I need a loan to start a business! What kind of business? Well, it will be one that makes money and people will like, I promise!" The fact that they're likely to clear $1,000,000 by putting the cart before the horse like this is disturbing.

What credentials do these people have even? Looking at Mobygames, the most appealing thing I see for Brenda is being a designer on Wizardry 8. Okay, that's cool. But other than that, her credits for other games boils down to writing the manuals and such. Seriously, how incredibly misleading is it to say you worked on the Realms of Arkania and Jagged Alliance series when your role was literally editing the manual? Fuck. That is some serious bullshit: http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/realms-of-arkania-star-trail/credits Up until Wiz 8 she was only a manual writer/editor.

And Tom Hall has had nothing to do with "OLDSKOOL ARRPEEGEES" at all. Anachronox isn't exactly the best example of a classic CRPG. He might have been involved in some classic action games with id, but that's like listing McDonald's experience on a resume when applying to be a programmer.

No, this reeks of jumping on a bandwagon. And Brenda is being extremely misleading at best.

It seems stabwound is right. She was a designer for Wizardry 8 and writer for JA2. These seem to be her only credentials (apart from documentation / manuals for several other games).

Everyone would get wasted in the first minute. :smug:

So did J_C Matt Barton, even Jay from Rampant games as well as the Eschalon developer (Basilisk Ranger).

:rpgcodex: I think it's more like developers helping their bros out. But even still...I hope they only donated $15.

I wouldn't worry, I don't think this is going to make it, so no one will have given any money :smug:

Yeah, their pledges have already almost died out.

At least he is a programmer. I rather wonder why John Romero was not more present in the video. Is he going to work on the project at all?

Update:

Tom Hall ‏@ThatTomHall
Key updates on our RPG: 1st-person perspective, 4 character party, Unity engine, fantasy/sci-fi setting and theme. http://kck.st/QE9FFC

Okay so FPP and fantasy/sci, which is great. But why only 4 character party? :(

FIRST PERSON!!??!!11?!!

That type of shit was what started the decline with focus on immurson!
Where is my iso for strategy purposes?

FUCK THOSE LOSERS!

And yeah... why not 6 characters?
Not old school enough?

FUCK THOSE OLD LOSERS!

Can you see the pattern?

Pledged:
1st day: 100.000 $
2nd day: 50.000 $
3rd day: ...?

I'm afraid this ain't gonna work out. And what is the reason for that? Their own horrible presentation of the subject... If this kickstarter fails it's because they made the utmost noob presentation ever in history, by showing that they have not even an idea themselves...

However - From what I've read the game will be more like a Wizardry 9 (again with fantasy & sci-fi elements). That would be awesome and I think I gonna pledge next week (when hopefully some more information is out). I prefer the 1st person view much more to the isometric style.
