WTF this?

My party was resting in the Umpani army barrack when they were attacked by 23 rattkin bandits and some T'Rangs. Where were the Umpani guards???

Laughing my ass of at the Xeno Rocketeers. Never played 6 or 7.

The sci-fi / fantasy mix "b-movie" like setting is so awesome.

I love the intro to Wiz 8. Any game with the opening line, "Grimpak the Mook..." is fucking bursting with win.

I hate first-person 3D perspective in turn-based games (or real-time like Menzoberanzaan), it isn't comfortable.
Top-down only.

But the combat itself is just a perusal of a menu either way. And all the combat actions are represented only on a combat feedback menu. That's all that Wizardry is - a game that exists in abstracts, and not in tangible form. Exploring the world in first-person makes no difference, because the combat itself is inorganic and seperate from the game's physical world.

Top down just means you can move them around...but that's already made redundant by many aspects of the system.

Wizardry games put three people on the front and three on the flank. The front three can attack in close meelee. And they can be attacked in close meelee. The flankers can neither be attacked nor attack. However, in some cases, if they use a spear or a pole, they can attack from flank. Ranged weapons and spells are also useable from flank. But the enemies also keep one group on flank and one group on front, with the same rules applying to them. Moreover, Ninjas, Thieves, and Bards of both sides can sneak into the flank areas and attack them.

That covers every possible situation that can happen in a top down turn-based fighting mode, and whether the Ninja/Thieve/Bard can tumble to the enemy's side does not depend on the series of steps you take through the map, but just on one singe skill check by pressing one single button called Hide.

I was meaning 3D. Previous Wizardries didn't have this but f.e. in Wiz8 the enemies are shown in 3d world at different positions and you have pretty much to turn/move closer to each other of them and then click on them.
Also I like iso perspective much more for stuff like this. Simply because I like to see all my characters from above in squad-based games and control them as such.

I think the size of theverybigslayer's signature violates forum rules. On the other hand this trick where you can have a random Wizardry pic as a signature is pretty neat. :P
