I recently stumbled upon the music of David Vorhaus. While listening to an album of his titled Out of the Dark (1985) I noticed this one track

bearing quite a resemblance to this one from the legendary Star Control II soundtrack

Perhaps the composer of SC2 was a fan of Vorhaus' music...

Except there is no 'composer' to Star Control 2.

Toys for Bob held an online competition where people could submit FastLoader-tracks for a cash prize and to be included in the game.

The winner was this one (which is omitted from the 3D0-version) who walked away with $500.

*checks notes*

The composer for the ORZ-track is Californian Eric Berg, who also did the tunes for the Pkunk, Melnorme, Syreen, Slylandro (Homeworld) and the Spathi!

Of those, I can confirm that the Pkunk-tune was pre-released prior to SC2, it's known as 'Festive Frenzy' in the .mod-community.

Berg's only other commerical credits are for 'The Horde' (which is also a Toys for Bob-production) and 'Alien Logic', a 1994 space sim from SSI.

So yeah, odds are good he was a fan of Vorhaus' music.
