Steam's official charts page got a fancy new page with additional data they didn't provide before: https://store.steampowered.com/charts/

Now they count DLC and microtransaction revenues in daily charts so expect Apex Legends, CS:GO, PUBG, and Dota 2 permanently hovering around top 10 list. Good thing is that now they provide a way to easily access to local chart for each country, including historical stats way back to 2005.

New Real-Time and Weekly Steam Charts
A new home for charts showcasing the top selling and most played games on Steam

Today we've launched a new section of Steam dedicated to ranking the most popular games on Steam. This new section includes real-time charts for top selling and most played games, as well as weekly top sellers and monthly top new releases.

Check out the new charts here: https://store.steampowered.com/charts/

This new section replaces the old 'stats' page on Steam and provides a better overview for what is hot on Steam right now. The new top-selling lists rank games based on total revenue, including all sources such as DLC and in-game transactions so we can all get a more complete picture of which games players are excited about getting into and continuing to play. This new method of calculating revenue is also being deployed across various top lists throughout the Steam store, including the Top Sellers tab on Steam's homepage, genre and tag pages.

Here is a closer look at what's new:

Charts Overview Page
f284f552dc1a4aeca31d59ea03e3ee9681cae349.jpg

The new Steam Charts overview page provides a quick summary of which games are selling well, being played the most, and how many users are online. Plus, links to quickly jump to the most recent weekly and monthly charts.

And you can continue to find links here to the Steam Hardware Survey, Download Stats, and Customer Support Stats.

Real-time Top Sellers
577fac59c1c5cc19166074d6275a8c8d1582d7a5.jpg

We've had real-time Top Sellers sections on various pages across Steam for well over a decade, even broken out into top lists for individual tags, genres, and themes. You can still find those by visiting any tag or genre page, or simply going to the search page on Steam and sorting by top sellers. Today's update builds on that history with a few notable improvements in the Steam Charts view:
  • Number of weeks on chart
    - We've added indication of how many weeks a game has been on the top sellers chart.
  • Weekly change in rank
    - We've added indication of how many positions a game has changed in rank, if any, compared with the previous week.
  • Region switcher
    - For a set of most popular countries on Steam, we generate country-specific top sellers lists as a default so the lists can pick up on regional differences in customer interests. By default, we'll show you charts for your own country if we have them, but you can always switch to the global view or to another country's view if you are curious.
  • Total revenue
    - This list charts how well games are selling right now, including all editions (standard, deluxe, etc) of the game as well as DLC and in-game transactions. If an individual DLC is selling well enough on it's own to make the chart, we'll show the DLC entry as well so you can see when exciting new game expansions are making a splash.

Real-time Most Played
fa7ae28d6d5d5d989a0c4c67eb1df16c934060b9.jpg

The Most Played list charts the top 100 games based on the number of players in the game right now, along with an indication of the recent peak in player count for each of those top games. You can also switch to a view sorted by daily players which ranks the games based on the total number of unique players over the past 24 hours.

Check out the real-time most played chart: https://store.steampowered.com/charts/mostplayed

Weekly Top Sellers Charts
a9c54f6724a328f306401f07380ff610890178a8.jpg

The new weekly charts show the top 100 best-selling games based on revenue earned starting and ending each week on Monday at 10am Pacific. These lists show how many weeks in a row each game has been on the weekly charts and any change in rank from the previous week.

You can easily view previous weeks' charts to see popular games you may have missed. In fact, if you keep going through previous weeks, you can step all the way back to 2005 when there was a grand total of three games available for sale on Steam. Or the week of March 27 when PUBG launched straight to the top of the charts.

What other historical moments in PC gaming can you find immortalized in these weekly charts?

Monthly Top New Releases
For over a year now, we've been compiling a list for each months' top new releases. These monthly charts continue within a new home alongside our other charts, making it easier to look back at previous months' lists.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why include Free to Play games on these charts?
A. Over time we've seen games utilize a wide variety of approaches to pricing. Traditionally our top sellers charts have only included revenue from premium game purchases, but that was obscuring the hugely popular free or inexpensive games in which players purchase season passes, huge expansions, or other forms of new content. This format also lets us combine multiple editions of the same game so as to avoid duplication on the charts.

Q. What if a game is not available on Steam anymore?
A. If a game has been retired and is no longer available for purchase, it will still be listed on historical weekly and monthly charts for when it was top selling game. The charts will also display items not available in your country, or filtered out by your preferences, but in a condensed form.

Dislike the new UI for checking games after tags. Looks so messy, and the icons are huge for me. Is there a way to revert or get rid of all this extra fluff? And how do you search multiple tags now?

One almost hidden feature is that if you click the search button without entering a search term you go to the full search page where you can do detailed filtering. You may also want to try the Augmented Steam browser addon which adds a few extra filters.

Nice, thanks. So simple. It looks like the old menu. Easy to read.

$4412.45. I've been using Steam ever since November 1st 2007 when I first booted up TF2 after buying the Orange Box with my birthday money, which is 15 years ago next month. So that number divided by 179 months is a monthly average of $24.65 spent on Steam per month every month for the last 15 years.

can't help but feel there's some kind of exploit waiting to happen by allowing a regex like that, presumably it's ran on the server before presenting it to the user

Regarding the Steam Version of CHAOS;HEAD NOAH
By sceditor on September 30, 2022 9:50 AM
CHN_1080x600.png

Spike Chunsoft, Inc. today regrets to announce that it will not be able to release CHAOS;HEAD NOAH on Steam as originally planned due to Steam's guideline-required changes to the game's content. Spike Chunsoft, Inc. believes these changes would not allow the game to be released to its standards.

The company extends its sincerest apologies to all of the fans looking forward to this release.

The company is looking into delivering the title through alternative storefronts, and when details are decided will make another formal announcement. Until then your patience and understanding is appreciated.

Please also rest assured the Nintendo Switch version is not affected and will release on October 7, 2022, as scheduled.

There was a bit of a stink and a petition, since apparently it has something to do with Steins;Gate: https://www.change.org/p/project-sa...esoftware-s-ban-of-chaos-head-noah-savesciadv

The Prequel released in 2019 without problems:

It's also a game that was previously released on a cavalcade of other platforms: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos;Head

A few days later this decision was unexplainably reversed: https://www.spike-chunsoft.com/news/update-steam-version-of-chaoshead-noah/

CHAOS;HEAD NOAH to Launch on Steam

By sceditor on October 6, 2022 6:00 PM
CHN_1080x600.png

Spike Chunsoft, Inc. today is pleased to announce the previously cancelled Steam release of CHAOS;HEAD NOAH will launch on Steam on October 7, 2022, PDT as originally planned.

The company received the following statement from Valve, the operator of Steam:
"Valve's content review team, the group that made the original decision, has re-examined CHAOS;HEAD NOAH and decided to reverse course and allow the game to ship on Steam, as is. We've also examined the process that led to the previous decision about CHAOS;HEAD NOAH, and made some changes to avoid situations like this in the future."

Spike Chunsoft also expressed its appreciation to fans with the following comment:
"We believe this decision is the result of the unwavering support from fans of the Science Adventure Series as well as all of the players who are eagerly awaiting the release of this title. Your voices have been heard. We sincerely appreciate your commitment. We look forward to your continued support of Spike Chunsoft and the Science Adventure Series."

For the latest updates be sure to follow Spike Chunsoft, Inc. on Twitter (@SpikeChunsoft_e), Facebook (@spikechunsoft.en), and Instagram (@spike_chunsoft_e).

People are again assuming "Rogue Employee"/Campo Santo recruit faggotry afoot that was overturned when this raised a bit of a stink and proved to be somewhat of a bigger deal than they initially thought.

Wow. A Japanese cartoon "game" without women with huge boobs or naked little girls. Maybe that's why Valve didn't want to sell it. They didn't think it would have an audience.

New Big Picture (based on Steam Deck UI) is now on beta client: https://steamcommunity.com/games/593110/announcements/detail/3394051164709183117

Updated Big Picture is now available for testing

We are preparing to update Big Picture mode with the new interface we designed for Steam Deck, and today we’re making it available for testing. This update has been a long time coming, and we’re very excited to start gathering community feedback.

87da645f5fe71664a9aa25e2debb1d4295ca4583.png

This controller-first interface was designed for Steam Deck in handheld and docked mode, and is perfect for all the scenarios Big Picture mode currently handles. The updated Big Picture mode includes features like:
  • New Home Screen, where you can continue playing recent games, and see what’s new with the games in your library.
  • New Universal Search, that searches across Library, Store, and your friends
  • New controller configurator, designed for ease-of-use of picking, adjusting, or creating custom controller configurations
  • Optimized Steam Store for controller navigation
  • Updated in-game overlay, with access to achievements and guides
    • Press Steam / Guide / PS button while in game
  • New system menu, for quick navigation to different parts of the interface
    • Access this with the Steam / Guide / PS button
  • New quick access menu, for access to notifications, friends list, quick settings, and more.
    • Access this with Steam / Guide / PS button + A
The team is still polishing rough edges - but the interface is at a point where we’re ready to gather community feedback. If you’d like to help test, please:
If you’re up for helping us test the updated Big Picture, please provide feedback at the Big Picture forums. Thank you!

how do I use the old genre pages on steam? the new ones suck

even worse, if you keep loading more entries it doesn't unload the older ones and causes the page to lag

I think the new system replaced the old genre pages, as an alternative you could just enter a blank search and narrow by tag and type that might not be as resource intense.

Yeah that is basically what i've always being using, i never found the dedicated genre pages that useful since all the information is available from the search results page anyway and you get more tools to search and filter (especially with the augmented steam addon).

re: my previous question
For whatever reason, loading more doesn't unload previous and causes the page to slowdown, but it does add a "&offset=xyz" to the URL so you can just refresh and it starts at that offset. I'm not sure if this should have left beta yet...
