Maybe I should start designing ugly pigs profile pics for games. Sure, it'd all be using their custom engine software or maybe tweak it with AI. Ugly is coming back. The uglier the better!

Yeah, even Aion felt the wrath of ISIS. I spent waaaaaaaaayyyy to much time with the character creator. I made 8 Aion accounts by creating so many gmail and yahoo mail accounts. (Before gmail cracked down on multiple account). From Leprechauns to a Grey Alien (dunno if i have a pic of the alien). Wish I knew how to remove the whole HUD st the time (i figured it out later).

your custom character lmao
Yeah, I played the SF6 demo and my custom character came out looking like the love child of Indian Joker and SMA in game. Games really need to let you move the face around freely with the mouse instead of just being a fixed position with some minor character movement or rotating the camera around.

Really depends on the character creation system though, sometimes like in The River of Time custom characters are of the same calibre as the npcs in game. Other times your character is just doomed from the start to be worse than the artist sculpted characters like in SF6.

Are those tentacles combed back behind their head? A sort of off-shoot illithid?

Generic asari just like generic humans lin Mass Effect were all abominations. Liara's model looked nicer, especially in later instalments. When it comes to character appearance popamole Bioware games are really hit and miss. You got Miranda with great bod but Michael Jackson face or how they bimbofied Ashley in 3rd game, or amazing ass Tali being a walking covidiot never even showing her face, Jack had a pretty face but looked like exaggerated version of a suicide girl. But in Andromeda\DAI though they made characters ugly on purpose no doubt about it.

Most characters in early-2000s 3d games that tried to look realistic were ugly as fuck
The environments could look beautiful, but then every single human looks like an action figure that some kids threw against a wall a few hundred times.
The technology for realism just wasn't there, but that didn't stop everyone from trying.
The only 3d games that visually aged well from that era were heavily stylized.

warcraft 3’s graphics were top notch back in the day. still looks better than reforged today

Models were a bit blocky due to a high number of units that had to be rendered at the same time.

Since we've gone off topic, Starcraft's rednecks in space were ugly too:
