Public Enemy were fantastic. I really enjoyed De La Soul in the day. And I have no doubt there are plenty of others more contemporary, who are equally deserving of respect.

Those who write rap off and lump it all in with what has become popular on commercial radio and TV - the 50Cents etc, should realise how easily that could be done across the board. What's called 'punk' now is the worst music ever, corporate brat-whining over shitty guitars. That don't make punk suck.

Like I care if it's something you've heard before or not? It's basically and honestly how if feel about the 'music'. It, and several other styles, do absolutely nothing for me.

Motorhead and AC/DC were singing about 'bitches' in the 70's and 80's so there's fuck all new there. The actual music is non-descript and, frequently, indistinguishable from other perveyors of the 'style'.

It may be the new 'urban poetry', but Hawkwind were doing new 'urban poetry' back in the late 60's and early 70's -- along with a number of other bands. So, again, nothing I've not heard before -- and done much better.

I have no care whatsoever about what is popular -- never have had, never will.
