A turn-based, first-person, grid-based dungeon crawler.

Introducing Nights & Candles, the second game from The Role Playing Company for lovers of RPGs

In Nights & Candles a shadow of insidious evil has fallen over the city of Candlewind as foul creatures prepare to step out of the shadows. Afraid that these dark forces will soon overrun their kingdom, the city’s council desperately assembles a group of fearless heroes to search for an ancient artifact hidden in the deepest dungeons of the Frost Mountains, an artifact that could be their salvation.

Commenting on the creation of The Role Playing Company and its first two releases, Stefan Berger, Head of Business Development at UIG said, “This is a company specifically designed to cater to fans of so-called ‘old school’ RPGs beginning with Realms of Arkania – Blade of Destiny and Nights & Candles. This is an exciting new label that will release many more great role-playing games over the coming years, so lovers of the genre should feel very excited as we are doing this for them.”

“The team behind The Role Playing Company not only have many years of working on role-playing games behind them, they are also passionate about the genre, so I’m convinced that with that kind of combination of expertise nd nowledge they will successfully introduce Nights & Candles to expectant fans all over the world” added Kiril ristanow, Managing Director of Atmosphere Entertainment Studios.

Accoding to its Amazon.de page, release date is August 23.

Name of The Role Playing Company seems inspired by The Adventure Company label of JoWood. Indeed Stefan Berger was at JoWood before UIG and involved with The Adevnture Company some degree.

Sounds good enough and looks good enough to keep an eye on.

I don't much like to be told what to be excited for, but still...

Looks promising - and turn-based I hope? A shame about all that bloom on the portraits though - which look otherwise decently painted.

Weird times we're living in.

UIG seems to be the prolific developer of those awful shovelware simulator games which doesn't instill much confidence, but the game itself still look like something people would have been obsessing over if this was a couple of years ago.

Hell, I will give it a shot. Love turn based blobbers although this looks like it lacks 'charm' it still might be good. I will pretty much buy any game i this genre and have resorted to playing these games on a damn nin tendo handheld because there isnt much coming out for PC.

...Plus I always wanted to roll play a metal band.

UIG is just the publisher, from what I gather. The developer of Nights & Candles is a company called Atmosphere Entertainment Studios - who I couldn't find any info on yet. Not sure what all they did before this.

Does the player create 4 characters or 6? Or is it 4 plus 2 NPCs? I'm trying to find more details like classes and races and such.

Mights & Magics... Legend of Icewind Dale

Would that it combined both games, that would be brilliant. I'll support this one as a matter of principle, anyway.

Very few infos about them except they are working on some realm of arcania remake as well. This game is probably as much turn based as grimrock is. Come on, just a look at the interface you can tell it wont be a wizardry clone, far too simplistic, probably extrmely simplistic with a mobile version.

Looks generic.

Also, why is the norm, even in these "oh look we're oldschool days", to cut down on the number of characters?

Grimrock had 4 characters and that's pretty old school!!!

Btw I have taken the liberty of fixing one of their botched screenshots:

^ I didn't say there weren't games with 4 or less characters in oldschool games, I was asking why games were cutting back on characters.

I am not entirely sure what you are talking about here, because the game seems to have place on the screen for six PCs, which is fairly standard. I remember Wiz8 having 8 places in the party roster, counting NPCs, but that's the most playable characters that I can recall.

You can tell this will be shit just by looking at the title:

Nights and Candles (ok, that's a cute, romantic name)
Legend of Candlewind

Repeating words in the title. Poor form.
