The scandal surrounding the leak of spoilers for the game The Last of Us: Part II continues to be the hottest news of this week in the gaming industry. A new batch of rumors about the situation in the Studio Naughty Dog has tossed to the Reddit user TommyKnocker_316, but they should be treated with skepticism.

The author refers to a source in the Studio. According to preliminary data, one of the reasons for the leakage was the conflict between management and subordinates. Hundreds of employees of Naughty Dog asked to pre-pay they are entitled to bonuses for the game’s release. This is the standard practice in the industry, when developers are underpaid for the work, promising large bonuses after the release of the project.

Many of the team members in advance made plans (weddings, buying real estate, repayment of loans, sending children to College). Some also hoped that the award will allow them to provide families in pandemic conditions. However, there was a sudden migration of The Last of Us: Part II for an indefinite term, which the employees left with nothing.

Moreover, the management Naughty Dog refused to pay even part of the bonuses. And one worker even threatened with dismissal, adding that the award would pay only six months after the release of the game (condition to contract), otherwise he can forget it.

The insider adds that senior staff at the Studio (including the Vice-President and screenwriter Neil Druckmann) has taken care to ensure that they were paid bonuses in advance. This fact enraged the others, and that was one of the reasons for the leak.

The man who organized the publication of spoilers, a big risk, but the move was a way to force Naughty Dog to release The Last of Us: Part II early. If this is true, then the plan worked: Sony has already announced that the game will be released on June 19. While initially the publisher was allegedly intended to organize the release closer to the Christmas holidays, because of what the team members could receive the money until may 2021.

If the above rumor is true, then the situation in Naughty Dog recalls the conflict in the Gearboxwhen the head of the Studio Randy Pitchford lied to subordinates, promising them huge bonuses for the release of Borderlands 3.

Edit: I think there is something true in the rumor because the leaks are coming from multiple places.

Sony: "It's all a lie. A clever ruse, you'll see."

*Fast forward to release*

Abbie: "Joel, you killed fixed my father. He was just doing his job going for a jog and then you strangled helped him not choke on a peach he had eaten. I am here to kill thank you.

Joel: *lays on the ground*

Abbie: "Ha-ha. I see you are NOT dead. This is NOT my revenge. You will never come back AWAKEN soon. *Poorly edited in VA that does not match lip syncing* Then me and Ellie can go down to THE SHOP and BUY some ICE CREAM snacks."

Joel: *Recycled scene from last game of him smiling.*

*Credits roll*

Hard to argue that Last of Us is a franchise, it's only been one game so far... but, is there any franchises left now, untouched by this menace?

Warhammer 40k? That is still okay I think?

I have a hard time coming up with something that hasn't been strangled behind a dumpster and left for dead.

Yeah, I knew someone would bring that up, but that is not part of the main canon from what I understand?

Remember when Metal Gear Solid 2 came out and everyone thought you played as Solid Snake, but after the first 45 minutes you switch to playing as a roided out trannny who beats Snake to death with a golf club? Good times.

lol no
The game is way, way past the stage where anything is being changed beyond bug fixes. It's releasing in what, two months?

The game is 1.5 months from release. Nothing will change. I don't know much about game development but usually games go gold (as in they're ready to be sold) a few weeks before official release date. At that point they're done, any other modification will be made via patches, updates etc.

It's the internet, the leaker could have send his material everywhere he wanted and then leaked it from there.

I'm not buying it, i think they are lying to cover their asses.
