Ah good, I was too lazy to study those videos.

Nice. It seems like trait customization does somewhat compensate for the lack of skill choices/customization. Hopefully there will be a lot more traits (specifically weapon traits) so that some thinking is required. The Ranger Shortbow line looks good, though, with 7 available traits and only 3 slots to choose to fill. There also seem to be a lot of choices for "Utility Skills" which is also good.

Hmm, the fiddling makes me rage all again... I'd rather equip more traps and pet skills instead of 5 bow attacks...

We hadn’t explored the idea of a hive-mind in our world before, but we didn’t want to just repeat the old standard—an insectoid race. We went through many ideas, and eventually settled on the concept of a rattus rattus based horde.

I wonder if this is Annie's influence somehow...

Seriously though, sounds very nice, an actual developing society of cranium rats.

We had a quest chain that involved skritt at one point; although it didn’t make it into the game, it was a fascinating story. A small colony of skritt came upon a tribe of kodan and listened to the kodan philosophy. As a group, they were able to understand it very well, and one of them was impressed and wanted to learn more. The other skritt left the area, but that one stayed behind to study with the kodan. Unfortunately, once the other skritt left, he found himself in a terrible position—he was no longer intelligent enough to understand the kodan philosophy or remember why he idolized them so much. The feelings remained and he stayed with the kodan—but, tragically, he would never be able to truly understand them.

Too bad they didn't keep this in-game.

Yeah, I read that. The problem with that blog-post is that they pretend as if the concept were entirely original and don't even mention Torment as an aside. Stinks of Guttenberg :decline:

Could be that the guy posting the article has no idea of the Planescape setting at all. Doesn't mean the rest of the devs don't (seeing as Annie for example is obviously aware of it), but the representative could've failed with that. Though I felt a pang of irritation when cranium rats weren't mentioned, as well. Yeah, it's not a common setting, and rats aren't as common as hiveminds in games as insects, but damn it, background check.

Might be pointless since Annie doesn't seem to have time but I'll ask anyway:
Will GW2 finally have an auction house?

I'm fiddling with my hero party and came accross the recent changes to Dervishes. I like them and integrated Khamu into my party. But now I'm looking for furious, penetrating, vampiric, of fortitude or of defense modifiers for his scythe. And I'm really not in the mood to spend hours spamming trade channels, realizing that I don't have the gold to pay for the stuff when I finally get an offer and when I finally do have an offer I can pay for being scammed...

Just stumbled across this: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/mar ... ml?t=15532

Apparently there will indeed be auction house, and you will be able to purchase from outside the game as well. There's going to be a nice system, apparently, that will allow you to auto-buy an item as soon as it comes to the market, too, so you'll be able to "pre-order" and set a price that you accept. Sounds convenient.

Last?

There's still one class reveal left as far as I know, and most people speculate it is the Mesmer.

Guild Wars 2's Seventh Profession Revealed: The Engineer
So much for all the Mesmer speculation... ANet goes gadgety for GW2's 7th!

Today, NCsoft reveals the seventh profession for Guild Wars 2, and the Engineer has more in common with ArenaNet's recent April Fool's Day joke than any of us would have guessed. Read on for full details on this highly adaptable, unique profession.
Engineer

“I’d explain it all to you, but a demonstration would be more useful.”
Ah, that had me irritated. Sounded like there was no chance anymore for the mesmer(without an expansion).

Damn hype-speak.

Some footage of underwater combat as Elementalist. Looks nice.

I would say the exact opposite. Each gameplay vid makes me less and less enthusiastic about this game, and this one nails it perfectly. Try going out of town solo in GW1 and see what happens. You will get bumrushed by a mob of 6-10 enemies of mixed classes and die in 5 seconds.

Judging by most gameplay vids, GW2 seems to be focusing on solo play a lot more and I don't like that at all. Going through singular enemies while spamming your 1337 spells and rolling around like a dumbfuck is right up there in generic mmoville, something GW1 avoided really neatly. Even the gameplay vid in the ghost town where a whole party fights spectres of Ascalon troopers doesn't feature more than 3 enemies at a time.

Why woman is casting fireballs under water? I thought elementalist skills are supposed to change dynamically based on environment.

Hm, haven't seen the ghost town thing, but frankly it's not hard to populate a world heavier - and I have to admit that one of the reasons I didn't like the original GW design was exactly because of huge crowds of enemies that would either buttrape you if you were alone or you would buttrape if you were in a group. If they make it balanced, will be good, if not, well, we'll see.

Still, from the previous game shows, there was a vid where the player was in a centaur village and got rushed by three at a time (and eventually rushganked by about a dozen adds). Remains to be seen - the video footage is really tiny here. Heck, even in GW1 you can find places with a similar monster population, and it does seem like a starting zone so hey.

Graphixwhore-wise though, looks quite good. Gameplay-wise, can't comment at all.

They did change... They're just still fire or at least heat based.

Looks more and more like the AoC twitch-gameplay that I criticised in the other thread :(

The game looks stunning, but since I'm not a graphic whore, and the other parts of the game don't seem that awesome to me, I don't know what's the big deal about GW2.

The skill system is pretty interesting, and the classes look more varied than in most MMOs, with no dependence on healing or tanking archetypes. Also the dynamic events sound a lot better than the traditional quests or grinding employed in other games.
