Sometimes it is good to make a stand hon for what is right. But, they clearly do not get the PC audience and are doing this only for a money grab. That's is just my opinion.

That "hon" doesn't even belong there, it's like it just blossomed out of nowhere in the middle of the sentence. Gayness overload?

Well, its good that the devs are sincere, but telling how much the port will suck is still kind of weird.
I was somewhat exited about the release, but now I'm not sure I'm going to try it anymore, at least not w/o reading some reviews on how terrible the controls and graphics actually are.

After many months of struggle I have finished Dark Souls at last.

Best game I have played since P4, Nocturne and Knights of the Chalice. And I almost doubt I will ever play a game quite like it ever again. I'd happily have paid 200$ for this experience; it's that unique, bizarre and rewarding. A game of melancholy that manages to be depressing by sheer virtue of art design and subtle touches in the voice editing.

I can but urge everyone to try it. Even if you may not like action RPGs, I assure you the game is far more than that. There's a strange, depressing and cold world to explore that is haunting beyond what I can describe in words.

I'll never forget this game.

My only sadness about Dark Souls is that I'll never again experience it like I did the first time, learning to play, shitting myself every corner, finding amazing secrets and being impressed by the new enemies and bosses....New Game+ is not very good, the closest I can get to challenge myself is to create new and weird characters that force myself to be extra carefull, like a pyromancer without shield...

Still, I agree 100% with Jasede, definetly one of the TOP 10 games I ever played, I'll never forget it.

I'll admit it's the most anticipated game for me this year. I keep checking the wiki now and then to read up on mechanics, trying to figure out which class to go with.

I've recently discovered that they have an intriguing D&D-inspired alignment system in the covenants, but it seems this is only relevant in MP? Would I miss out on a lot if I play SP only? (GFWL FTL)

I own it on Xbawks, and I don't have a Live Account, so I played offline the whole game. Unless you're in for the PvP. you won't lose much, mostly extra stuff, like some Covenant items, player advices or suprise invasions. That said, I found some player messages to be too much spoiler-ish, and I'm happy that I played the whole without them.

Holy shit. The praise for this game is almost ridiculously exalted. I don't think I've seen a new game praised like this on the Codex before.

What are the chances of the PC port being any good?

Slim. It comes with Games For Windows Live, minimal keyboard and mouse support, low resolution textures and the framerate is capped at 30 fps.

And they will still blame poor sales on piracy or that the Western market 'just doesn't get it', mark my words. Even Fable TLC had a good PC port so it can't be that hard.

If people think the lack of High-Res textures are detriment to a game like DS, they're missing the whole point of the game.

From Software are completely missing the point of PC gaming, if we really wanted to play their game in low quality we would have done so.

Would have thought they used higher resolution textures and higher fps on pc, guess it wont add much from the xbox and ps3 version, another port at minimal costs. To made, you wont miss much without multi except its damn convenient to get help for somes bosses in dark souls, i dont know if i could have done the dragon slayers without help. One game i wont forget for sure, shame it did not received his official 2011 rpgcodex game of the year award as it should have.

Yes. I would recommend playing it offline.

Things you miss out on:

* Summon other players to help you fight monsters/bosses (You shouldn't do this anyway IMO)
* Invade other players and kill them for their souls/humanity (In-game currency)
* Read/Write messages that randomly appear in other player's worlds. (For example, you could find a message in front of a secret door that says "secret door ahead". You probably shouldn't be reading these anyway.)
* Be randomly invaded and killed (if you wish) as you travel by strangers. You have no hopes of fending them off as you learn the ropes, though my PvP skills improved a bit after then 150th or so death.

There is no way to interact with the people that try to kill you or that you summon to help you fight; they're just faceless strangers you'll never get to know. It's very bleak.

Oh FFS, just because I like old games I can't be dissapointed because From Software is doing a weak port and wasting the chance to improve one of my favorite games?

It bugs me that I'd have to buy the PC version to get the additional content. :(
I might do it anyway just to support the bros.

I'll get it again anyway, just be able to play it some years from now, when I probably will have sold my Xbox away.

i've played both DeS and DkS off and online and i have to say playing offline is only half the experience. the constant thread of invasions while cooping or just being human is simply... exhilarating. or invading and playing a game of cat and mouse with the host trying to use every trick in the book to kill the other player (and possibly his phantoms) from enemies to environmental hazards. a really unique and fantastic experience. regular, duel-centric PvP is also really cool (it's a pity they don't have a small dedicated team of 2-3 devs to release balance patches on a regular basis... with some tweaks and a couple of mechanical overhauls this could've been a perfect 3rd person PvP melee brawler) and there's a couple of "unofficial" locations for "honourable" duels

as for covenants, there are enemies that you can farm for covenant-specific items so you can rank-up in those even offline. still, PvPing (or cooping) is waaaaaay more fun than farming ;)

1. not confirmed 100%. 2. we still don't know what exactly that means (except that the lead dev recommends playing on a gamepad since the whole game was designed with that in mind). 3. low res textures yes, framerate capped no (where the hell did you read that?)

If people think the lack of High-Res textures are detriment to a game like DS, they're missing the whole point of the game.

ah yes. of course... PC gaming is all about DX11, tesselation, high res textures, bloom, hdr etc... fuck, and i thought skyway was dumb.
