Perhaps.

I must check the dates in the great archives and if it is possible I might have to reconsider my vote.

The Barbarian already clarified that the Hin'in aren't human/Codexian.

At any rate, we made the right decision participating in this conflict. If we had not, the Four Suns Alliance would have walked right over the Three Tones with Hin'in aid, and we would have had a Hin'in-backed Raumen puppet state bordering our territory when the dust settled. Not exactly a good thing no matter how you look at it.

However, the Hin'in have not chosen to help in the form of their military yet. This is the crucial point. We currently have the Second, Sixth, and Seventh Fleets committed, with elements of the Ninth Fleet engaged in operations in the area. As such, I must request for more information from the Barbarian: does bolstering our forces mean that we mobilize for war, and begin committing our full force into battle, or do we only utilize the current forces and perhaps a couple more fleets present in the area?

If we strike fast and hard, we may be able to smash the Four Suns with a concerted effort before the Hin'in are able to jump into the fray.

Still, I may be reckless, but my recklessness has its limits. I do not want our entire combat strength Wyrming into Four Suns territory ready and eager to fight, and getting utterly wiped by some Hin'in superweapon because we have insufficient intel. The Raumen we know, and we can fight, but we have far too little information on the Hin'in for now.

I will wait for a bit to see how voting goes before casting mine.

edit: I agree with Conkrete Knight, I am sure the Three Tone Alliance know something of the Hin'in. Would it be possible for us to get any information from them, even a little, before voting period ends?

Option C
The Raumenei are traders, should they avoid this option it will constitute a rather interessting anomaly.

Option B hovewer is interresting too
They are interested in this war, as are we.
Let us see if we can coordinate these interests or even convince them to let go.

In any case Id really like to know a possible enemy before engaging him, proxywar or not.

So I might be Flip-floping if B has considerably better possibilities of wining.

No matter what the outcome of the vote, we really should ask our allies if they have further knowledge of this strange race, which no one told us could be a part of the war in which we now are active.

The Bugs should be more open in terms of vital information, they are a little bit to secretive.
Especially considering that Codexian lives are on the line to aid them in their war efforts.

I only remember that Hin'in wasn't Codexian.
But there's a lot of information to go trough here, have I missed something?

Yes, the fact that Human and Codexian can be used interchangeable.

That doesn't mean that the Hin'in aren't human.
By Codexian I meant us.
That was what we discussed about the Hin'in before.
If they refered to us as Hin'in, The Barbarian told us they weren't us.

First, it's RECONQUESTA (or Reconquista). Second, remember that the Hiin Empire could be a way that the bugs call the "humies".

Since this has been a point of confusion several times in the last week, let the Barbarian clarify: the Hin'in are definitely not humans/Codexians.

Neither humans, nor Codexian humans.

Still, I'm interested in finding out what they are like. Part of the fun of interstellar expansion is meeting new races, befriending them, and crushing them.

edit2: Hm... still a tough decision to make here. On one part, we must end this in a position as strong as possible to counter Hin'in influence now that we know they are around and active. On the other... well, the :smug: in helping our good little bug pals to victory is great.

Thank you, admiral.
Shame, I still hold onto my vote then.

Crushing first, meeting later.

I vote A, again if the Hin'in are so much of a threat to us they probably wouldn't pit the Raumen against each other. What would be really tricky tho, if this whole Raumen civil war was their plan to flush us out.

They coulda just knocked. We're always open to negotiations with any xenos. We like talking. We're the sort that will talk to any NPC we meet.

Too many wild theories based on zero hard data flying around. Lets stick to the Occam's razor, shall we? They saw us helping one Raumen faction and realized that the prospects of powerful codexia+its puppet Raumen regime would be against their interests. So they decided to help the other faction. Simple power balancing. And now we have a proxy war on our hands.

Bolstering your forces in the area will still not mean a general mobilization. Essentially, it will mean reinforcing your strength in Raumeni space to a level sufficient for a great offensive effort against the Four Suns.

No matter what the outcome of the vote, we really should ask our allies if they have further knowledge of this strange race, which no one told us could be a part of the war in which we now are active.

This would constitute part of the 'back-channel' option.

I am sure the Three Tone Alliance know something of the Hin'in. Would it be possible for us to get any information from them, even a little, before voting period ends?

The Three-Toners don't have much contact with the Hin'in - they are on the other side of the Raumeni expanse. What is known generally is that they are a race of four-eyed humanoids with (according to lore) psychic powers, that they are a major power, and that they are active participants in wider galactic politics.

But, in all honesty, the Barbarian has not yet provided info on the Hin'in because you are at the very, very beginning of the choice that will lead to interaction with them. Further relevant information will be provided at the appropriate time - this includes whatever your erstwhile allies can tell you.

Option B!

Perhaps after learning more about the Hin'in and their intentions, this Raumeni war will be insignificant to the grand scheme.

Intel is the greatest weapon.

Interesting. Thank you for your answers, mighty Barbarian.

This does mean that a major offensive against the Four Suns will not require our full strength; i.e. without Hin'in help their chances of victory are slim.

Also, wider galactic politics huh... To that end, as reluctant as I am to not push for more bloodshed, we should attempt to contact the Hin'in. This is our ticket out of this backwater sector. We will supplant the Raumen - as a power they are all but done for with this civil war - as the regional power dominating this sector, and step up to play with the real big boys.

B. Attempt to contact the Hin'in.

Too tempting a chance to pass up. But beware of mind-reading or even mind-control from these new xenos.

edit: Flipflopped to C.

Oh, how did I miss this awesome thread?

I like 'C' with a condition of armistice being a disclosure on Hin'in involvement. I'd back 'C' up with 'A' if the Four Suns aren't in the mood to surrender.

My reasoning for not choosing the others:

A - While space Vietnam has it's benefits, it seems like we've mightily struggled with civilian happiness, so it might be best to wait until our AI research has paid off more before engaging in a messy proxy war with an unknown enemry

B - I just can't imagine a situation where the Him'in are all "oh shit, you're supporting the other side? my bad bro, let's go chug some brew!". They could come talk to us, but instead they are trying to destabilize our neighborhood. There should be some resources spent on making contact, but making sure our bugs come out on top should be the top priority.

OOC: This seems like one of the questions where the options aren't mutually exclusive. The nerd in me wants to see more complex controls than a simple multiple choice, while the realist is happy that we have this much. Maybe one of the codex programmers can whip us up some more fllexible voting tools to support more complex decisions in the future.

If a dead-locked vote manages to come to a consensus; that we attempt A with a side of B, for instance, will the Barbarian be willing to adjust the consequences to fit the choices we compromised upon? If voting is conducted in this manner, the options given by the Barbarian will then serve as guidelines as to which actions are possible in the current situation. Of course, choices that are mutually exclusive will need to be marked as such… but this system may be more work than it’s worth and I am content with the current style.

Right now options B and C seem tied.

edit: Of course, part of the fun is in not knowing how exactly your choices will turn out. We might as well be playing Master of Orion.

The Barbarian might be an uncouth savage - but he is also open-minded. If we have reached another deadlock, he will open up a secondary vote on how to resolve these issues, in future.

Since consequences are only fully realized (i.e. written up in detail) once the round's vote is conclusive, it is theoretically possible to fit compromise options. The only issue the Barbarian has with this approach is how that compromise would be agreed upon amongst the voters.

Perhaps it is best resolved by Conan offering up a second round of (modified) choices, based on the discussions of the voting body... We will see. In the meantime, hopefully there are a few votes forthcoming to break the deadlock. It would be great if these could come in (hint, hint) during the next hour, or so, as the Barbarian would like to complete today's update before finishing the workday.

If, hypothetically speaking, a flipflop occurs within the hour, breaking the deadlock, would you close down voting and start to write up the update? >_>

The next vote will signal the end of the voting round, and the beginning of the Barbarian's write-up.

Let the flip-flops commence! Or new votes. Conan does not mind either.

Well, if you put it that way...

Flipping from B. to C.

Let's see what the bugs bring to the table. Pro-Raumen capitalist pigs, here's your chance to get filthy rich.

edit: Patience is not my forte. :D

Plus I reckon one way or another the Hin'in will be the next thing we have to go through to enter the big boys club.

Well, C offers a greater likelihood of a strong position. Probably. Mysterious ways are hard to predict. Plus it'll strengthen our relationship with the Three-Toners, if that's what we want.
