GF dug up http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=513463 for some epic gloating action.

Some select quotes:

Ok so, does this mean new content is never coming?? is new content just going to be premium pets, potions, weapons, lollipops and so on??? Will we ever see same gender relationships (and would it be "pay for gay"??)??? Can we expect new class content??

Our team is extremely excited about this new plan.
Keep telling yourself this ...and your team. We all know what it means, we been warning you for 7 months...

We are working hard and having a lot of fun preparing new content and items for the game.
Translation, we are tying to stop this ship from sinking, we hope you will buy this new hat or monocle next week.

We believe that this is the right direction for our game – more choices, more options and more ways to customize your play experience to suit your play-style.
Instead of giving you what you already paid for and are still paying for we are gonna spend your money putting more ""Buy Cartel Coins"" buttons in the game.

May the Force be With You.
You need it more then us ... start updating your CV sunshine.

YOU JUST DESTROYED THIS GAME!!!!!! This game had so much promise but not anymore. I haven't been this mad in a long long time. Now I am simple outraged. Pathetic, Greedy, Insane and so many other word and most not even worth stating here!!! I can just picture it now.. all my hard work completely worthless as you turn all those achievements in a meaningless labor especially when you will of course be adding the store to buy in game material. I can only think of one game that is free to play and not 100% laughable. and even then those free to play games reek of nothing but greed from the game company.. how can we take advantage of the fan base to get as much money as possible without very really offering anything of substance. this is just disgraceful. And a slap in the face. Daniel Erickson and the rest of the team that wants this should be immediately fired.... While I personally bear them no ill will they are leading this game into the ground and cleaning out the people who are letting this happen is probably the only way to save this game.. Personally I feel like all hope is lost and will probably never support bioware again. Somebody please tell me this is just a dream.

Wow, there are a lot of people who have to spend 15 dollars a month to be happy.

My only concern is really is when are you guys going to add in same-gender romance options. That is a big reason for why I've played the game. I really don't care for the new companion as the HK's were never my favorites in KOTOR.
What can change the nature of a biowhore?
:rpgcodex:

(I wanted to type "filthy faggot" as my first reflex, but decided not to as it would be misinterpreted as an insult to homosexuals in general rather than just to disgusting undermen who buy non-porn games only to faciliitate their fapping and fuel the decline by creating market pressure).
And Morrowind fans :troll:

Can anyone translate what the restrictions actually mean so that those of us who haven't declined can understand them?

What does being limited to one race do? AFAIK all of the races before were just humans with a different skin tint?

What does being limited to speeder rank 1 do? Are speeders useful or is this just an extra 5 mins to get from A to B?

What the fuck is a flashpoint?

Does anyone need a bank with a million credits? If this was Diablo 2 I would just laugh because gold was useless there.

What is crafting good for? Isn't the best shit in these MMOs always rare drops from boss mobs anyway?

Can't answer all as I've not played this wondrous product but:

Speeder ranks, prolly you get to use some shit-looking pogo stick. Money, well, LotRO had a hard cap that you could extend once it went Freemium, and bro, I tell you, that is a BITCH. So, while I have no idea what is the economy like, capping the wallet size is p. fucked up.

I thought AoC had the worst F2P model ever. I was wrong.

Rank 1 speeders are the ones you get at level 20, they're barely faster than walking and you get knocked from them if a monster sneezes around you, Also, 100k is absolutely nothing in the game, It's like 500 gold in wow if you want a comparison.

Flashpoint is their pretty name for instances.

Well if you want to play it for the original 1-50 stories, the only bad thing is the lack of quick travel and fleet pass. And it's a major annoyance.
If you're dumb enough to try something else in the game, that list means you should sub.

For new people, nothing. For people who bought the game and played it, their existing characters are frozen unless they fork up cash. For example, my l50 IA and Sith Warrior wouldn't be playable if I suddenly decided to go back to the game unless I paid up.

What does being limited to speeder rank 1 do? Are speeders useful or is this just an extra 5 mins to get from A to B?

Speeder rank 2/3 are slightly faster (we're talking a 10-20% speed increase IIRC). The main draw to a higher level speeder is that if you drive past a monster on a rank 1 speeder and it attacks you, you get knocked out of travel mode and fall off. Rank 2/3 speeders allow you to zip past lower-level enemies. It's a minor convenience at best.

What the fuck is a flashpoint?

Instanced dungeons a la WoW 5-mans. Most of them are pretty fun. The first one is also a very popular farm spot for people looking to grind affection with their first companion. (Affection gives some dialogues and a quest for more xp but more importantly increases the speed they do crafting missions at for you).

Does anyone need a bank with a million credits? If this was Diablo 2 I would just laugh because gold was useless there.

I recall dropping 250k cred on a speeder rank upgrade. It's not a huge issue at first, but once you hit lv 30+ you'll probably want to be able to store at least half a million creds. Several million on your main also means you can skip a lot of grind on your alts and just mail yourself some gold. Once you hit level 30+, finding useful gear on the AH for less than 100k becomes problematic. Especially if you're looking for purple upgrades for your orange gear since you can't craft those yourself.

What is crafting good for? Isn't the best shit in these MMOs always rare drops from boss mobs anyway?

In TOR, the best stuff drops from Operations (raids) at lv50. Up until then, the best stuff you will get is a set of Orange gear. Oranges come with a number of upgrade slots, allowing you to upgrade the same chestpiece as you level up to remain useful. Purple upgrades of your level are the best (or close enough as makes no difference) until you hit the endgame. All upgrades are made via crafting, or you can pay an exorbitant amount of commendations for blue ones. Or you can buy them via the auction house, but you're definately not going to get a lot of upgrades ofr a high level character with just 100k in the bank.

Of course, oranges are usually gotten from crafting (you can't do that), flashpoints (you can't enter those), the auction house (you probably can't afford those) or a few story missions. Some commendation vendors sell them as well. That's probably where you're going to get the most of them from.

Butthurt detected.

This isn't new info. Invest more points in [Perception]. TOR has it's faults. It's by no means a good game, but taken for what it is I still got a month of entertainment out of it. Which is more than I can say for other, equally bad turds such as TWitcher2 which RealPotatoGuide Codex gave 10/Kurwa.

TOR > Diablows hands down.

Wait a minute, you bought/played this shit? and you actually had the fucking nerve to slag people off in the Diablo 3 thread? fuck you clown.

Wot a nobber.

By all measures TOR sounds like a decent single player game saddled with the problems of an MMO, with some of the better quality writing Bioware has produced.

Diablo 3 is a shitty single player game that was turned into an MMO in the shittiest way possible for the shittiest reason possible, with not a single redeeming quality over D2 for anyone who isn't Blizzard's accountants.

Mind you, I haven't played either of them 7 any times. Which makes me better than both of you and my opinion correct.

TOR's writing is bland and boring, more so than any other Bioware game I can think of. I have no idea why Ulm likes it, but to each his own, I guess.

It's pretty terrible, imagine the dullest MMO content imaginable saddled with dragon age 2 writing quality. It's only selling point is the mass effect conversation system, except in this it's janky as fuck with skippy animation.

That's not even mentioning the ropey visuals with balls art direction.

The game is satans spunk... a royal cunting fuck up of the highest order.

normally i'd agree, i couldn't give a shit what anyone else here plays.

But when you're trying to post in a thread of a game you've been following and some little shit is slagging you off at every turn and acting like you've fucked his sister. Yet pretends to be mr billy big bollocks with impeccable taste and turns out to be the codex's #1 SWTOR superfan...a piss has been taken. .

Implying that any other MMOs have interesting content? What a pleb.

I'm not sure you can use DA2 writing quality as an insult for Bioware games. DA2 almost anything else, sure. But DA2 was better than Bioware's normal writing and certainly better than the trainwreck that is the ME series.

I couldn't give a fuck how it looks. It could be ASCII for all I care if the rest of the game was 1% better.

So what exactly is this D3 that you are defending?

It sounds like the storylines vary dramatically in quality, since Bioware had a shit ton of writers and not much quality control. Which stories did you play?

At risk of being called out on an appeal to popularity, TOR apparently lost ~50% of its subscribers over the past 7 months and is now going F2P in an attempt to recoup those numbers; D3 lost ~65% of its players in a little over a month even though it is already a F2P game.

i love it how as soon as your bummer boy is challenged you immediately (within minutes even) jump on my dick.

"I couldn't give a fuck how it looks. It could be ASCII for all I care if the rest of the game was 1% better."

This is pathetic, go try and score KKKredit elsewhere.

Art direction matters, especially so in an MMO which by design are time sinks and something you play for hours on end. A putrid yellow nal hutta with nothing interesting to see for the hours of grindy content is a terrible opener for any game, The little "artist" cunts at bioware actually gave me a migraine through eye fatigue when i tried to play their game, all because they didn't understand the basics of colour theory.

Play the secret world, and then this shit and you'll see a galaxy sized gulf between bioware austin and FC in terms of world building, quest design and making something interesting to playthrough.

D3, 9 million sold.

Which stories did you play?

Bounty Hunter till level 49, Imperial Agent till level 24, Sith Magic-thingy till 22, Jedi Knight till 16, Smuggler till 16.

All of it banal shit boring. The only reason I played the game was to pass time with friends, and after a month we were all like 'eh, let's do something else that is actually worth spending our time on'

DA2 with writing so good, it's been in my sig for over a year. Check it out! Also, life's a catch, catch it while you can!

Blizz "gave away" for "free" the amount of D3 copies and sparkly mounts that TOR sold. Hee.

Yeah well and that's not to mention that Blizz didn't have to fall back to a contingency plan for shit sales. It was a sub-free game to begin with, with content arguably fully open to anyone that buys the box. Ruh-roh.

Won't call myself a fan of Blizzard policies for a pretty long time now, but EA pretty much fucked it up. Only Gay Sex DLC can save this title now.

Wow, I somehow missed this. DA2 is easily the worst writing Bioware has ever produced.

The main storyline was the first one that wasn't a straight rehash of BG and certainly felt more interesting than anything that happened in other recent Bioware games. I suppose you would rather be searching for the 4 star maps of DA2?

BTW you should play ME2 and 3 if you want to see the worst writing imaginable.

Which doesn't mean a thing, because it's not like people bought it already knowing that they liked it. Both games rely on player retention to make money indefinitely, and D3 is doing a far worse job of retaining players.

I played both. The plots are certainly retarded, but the character writing in ME2 is surprisingly good in some parts. Legion, Grunt, Mordin, Thane and Samara/Morinth are all OK.

Certainly better than the herp-a-derp idiocy of DA2, where every character is an uninspiring, juvenile teenager with emotional issues.

Who writes the plot then? The texture artists? The animators? The programmers? Or the writers?
