Nier Automata is garbage.

You're missing on one of the top 10 games of last decade, man.
It was also a button mashey turd. Like Ezekial said the combat was way too shallow and offered little challenge. You can get smoked in Stellar Blade in a matter of seconds if you're not paying attention. They are not the same.

You are right with regards to combat difficulty - normal is too easy, hard is overly hard. But, it's still fairly enjoyable I would say.

The older I get, the more I rate games on the basis of 'how much of the game will I remember 5 years from now'. It's been 7 years since I played Automata, and some of the moments are still with me:
- one of the greatest OST ever seen in a video game
- epic & memorable boss fights: 'this cannot continue ...', Adam, Opera
- many 'WTF happened here' moments: Pascal's 'appetite', 2B 'problems', changes with 9S
- great story overall
- ending credits & surprise, combined with 'Weight of the world music' - one of the greatest gaming moments ever

I probably missed some. Amazing game.

I bought the game twice because of you lying idiots. You all said "oh look it's not actually censored" so I rebought it and it turns out you were all full of shit. Do your research before posting garbage, stupid fuckin twats. That was recetera tier dumbfuckery.

Edit

I just killed Tachy. Ngl I feel kind of sad. I thought she was hotter than Eve.

Ugh, the sidequests are becoming exhausting. Seems like every time you complete 4 or 5 of them 10 more pop up, and it's the most mundane boring tasks. The NPCs are all terrible and they all ask for the same exact shit. Either find a missing person or find a missing item. Definitely not one of the game's strengths. Just feels like padding. I'm 100% skipping them in NG+.

This game really gets bogged down by the open environments and collectathon bullshit. The combat, boss fights, music, and booty are wonderful but the pacing is all wrong. This needed to be straight action ala DMC and Bayonetta. Trying to make it more like Nier Automata was a huge mistake. Fuck Automata.

I played it for about 45 minutes, the opening scenes and dialogue were corny enough that they gave me an almost fatal case of second-hand embarrassment. Has dark souls-esque checkpoints and anime combat. Nothing special, wouldn't even be talked about if it wasn't for the fact that video games are so terrible now that anything that doesn't make every orifice in your body begin vomiting feels like an exceptional experience.

Yeah, the more I play this, the less I like it. I would still call it 'decent', but such a missed opportunity for something better. Our friendly cat has summarized it well - very fun boss fights, satisfying combat system, nice music (albeit repeatable), everything else though... meh. Some questionable design decision here and there (timed challenges while being shot at by turrets, wtf), unnecessary semi-open world sections, very poor voice acting of side characters, questionable writing quality. This is based on 10h played, so around 30% done with the game.

The desert areas drag it down the most. If you thought Bethesda's Fallout wastelands were bland, holy shit, you ain't seen nothing yet. If those were removed entirely the game would be much better for it.

SHIFT UP is exploring the possibility of both a PC version of Stellar Blade and a sequel, in addition to its previously confirmed cross-platform project newly code-named Project Witches, the studio revealed in its initial public offering filing on the Korea Composite Stock Price Index.

According to the filing, Project Witches is currently in the early stages of development with plans to launch globally across console, PC, and mobile with cross-play in 2027 or later. It is described as SHIFT UP’s “next-generation mega subculture [intellectual property] that will surpass Goddess of Victory: NIKKE,” with examples of “subculture [intellectual property]” being games like Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Fate/Grand Order. SHIFT UP hopes to ramp up development in 2024 by attracting new hires.

As for Stellar Blade, plans for a PC version and a sequel are listed as under consideration, with a release date not yet determined.

“Beyond Stellar Blade, we are developing a new [intellectual property]-based game, Project Witches, for release in 2027 or later, and are considering a PC version of Stellar Blade and a sequel,” reads the document (translated from Korean via DeepL). “We believe that our ability to develop new [intellectual properties] that can be successful without relying on existing [intellectual properties] will enable us to grow sustainably compared to other game companies that are locked into existing [intellectual properties].”
Elsewhere in the document, the potential PC release is mentioned once again, as well as plans for post-launch updates and downloadable content.

The document reads, “For Stellar Blade, we have plans to introduce new gameplay elements, including downloadable content releases, a PC version, and new [intellectual property] collaborations. Meanwhile, the company’s global one-build approach allows for simultaneous global updates to ensure a consistent game experience for users and rapid deployment of content at a low cost.”

Later on it reads, “AAA console titles such as God of War and Final Fantasy have shown tremendous potential, selling over [66 million copies and 185 million] respectively. There are many precedents for AAA titles to evolve into [intellectual property] franchises by extending their lifespan through a series of high-quality sequels and maintaining a long-term monetization base. As a result, we are exploring the possibility of a PC version of Stellar Blade and a sequel.”

Stellar Blade launched for PlayStation 5 on April 26, and is published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. According to the filing, sales have exceeded SHIFT UP’s expectations.

I stopped playing shortly after arriving at the "great desert" or whatever tf it's called and the game introduced fishing mechanics. I was like NOPE!

I'll pick it back up eventually but the game is needlessly bloated and the pacing is totally fucked. Like I said a while ago, this needed to be a more streamlined action game like DMC. If that were the case it could have potentially been brilliant. Instead it's mediocre at best.

Haven't had much of a chance to play this recently but got in a good few hours yesterday - have to say it is a pretty relaxing, chill game to play. No boss has taken me more than a few tries so you never feel like you're beating your head against a brick wall like in some Soulslikes and while the main character and most of the NPCs have zero personality the actual mysteries of the setting are not completely terrible and there are some nice environments to visit.

The wasteland is terrible though...

I note that these variants actually cover up parts that were uncovered in the censored versions. You can't see it here but they added stockings to the red bunny suit. This makes me suspect that there is some bizarre rule about the % of exposed skin any given outfit can be allowed to have. Ridiculous? This is clown world we live in, after all.

This outfit was unavailable before the recent patch. To see the previous version, you'd have to rollback with this new outfit unlocked.
