there is no mod that fixes the ship economy
u run into a capital drifting around on your first expedition and might as well stop playing
have to larp
With Nex? I've had fleets of up to 5 capitals fully S-Modded and you think one shitty D-Modded cap is gonna cut it?
Sometimes fights for bigger planets like Chicomoztoc will involve fifty+ cap ships with 10+ fleets plus the Star Fortress.
Still, once you reach a fleet big enough, yeah. Game is over, unless you want to conquer the sector
Damn I wish I had the mod for fights with so many cap ships. Are there also mods that allow larger individual fleets? Vanilla is fine but the game is begging for fleets with a full set of caps plus escorts and such. Although to some degree the lowest class of ships are just too easy to kill with big boys.

You have to modify the config file for bigger fleets. mine is at 60 ships and 800 battle size.
Open settings.json located at starsector-core/data/config with notepad and look for these lines:
"maxShipsInFleet":60,
"maxShipsInAIFleet":60,
First one is your fleet, second one is for all the AI fleets.
For battle size, you need to modify the following:
"minBattleSize":200,
"defaultBattleSize":800,
"maxBattleSize":800,
Just modify default and max and you're good. This one is for ships on screen, so it increases CPU load by A LOT in battles.

Well, shit, site's down. Kind of wish Alex would put it up on Steam for Workshop support if anything.
He said he would do so once the game is close or at 1.0. So maybe around 2030.

Or when he urgently needs money.

The money they would make from putting it on Steam would more than make up for the 30% cut. 70% of a sale is better than 100% of nothing.

I don't think this is true for unique and high quality games.
It mostly comes down to awareness. Starsector is popular enough at this point that it'd instantly be a big hit on steam, generating even more attention. There's plenty of people holding back because it's only hosted on some sketchy looking 3rd party site as well. It's not like there's going to suddenly be a ton of extra people made aware of the game through existing channels at this point; the only thing left to do is cash in on the normies. That said, it makes sense to hold off for a more polished release. Dude's already waited this long and clearly isn't hurting for money to finish the project, no point launching the game and getting a bunch of butthurt reviews because it doesn't have an ending or it got patched and their favourite ship got nerfed.

I agree that the payment processing could be a trust issue. Could put it on Epic or something. Just from my perspective Steam doesn't do enough to earn the 30% cut. If Steam had a more reasonable cut it would be different.

Why put it on a store nobody wants to use, lol?

Sure people hate Epic but they trust it to handle payment information. I suppose he could use itch.io instead.

I agree 30% is utter bullshit, but it's still well worth the cut for any indie selling their game. It's functionally equivalent to spending millions of dollars on marketing. If Total Biscuit hadn't tripped over it this thread would probably be like 2 pages long. Even amazing games like Eador Genesis get sweet fuck all attention without finding that sweet sweet influencer propaganda. Losing 30% of sales to reach 1000% more audience is a no brainer.

People don't want to install Tencent Timmy's store in the first place, especially after he tried strongarming people into using it.

Steam, people actually like and want. But Starsector's not coming to Steam until it's done.

I got SS in my recommendations and the itch returned. After spending the last week playing it(double digits every day), I got a bit bored but the craving remained. Popped in a few big mods and baby we are gaming. My week is ruined for sure and I already know what comes after I get bored of mods: Months of not playing it, and starting all over again. I cannot escape the cycles of guilt.:negative:

It'll toll on you after a few years, man. I love this game, but really had to step back and run campaigns that played out over IRL months. Basically just play a couple of hours a day to get the fix in. Same with games like Unreal World.

How is this game into the mid and late portions of the run? Is it getting boring? It seems to me that it turns into a colony management game, how fleshed out are these aspects?

Not very. The crisis countdowns alleviate it a little by providing an endgame that is actually hard, but once you get 3-4 colonies going and 500k creds a month there's nothing you can't do.
One way to really spice up the game is going no colonies, just rawdogging the bounty system. I was balancing my income on a razor's edge when going against some of the truly hard Magic Bounty encounters. My 25 cap/cruiser fleet was costing me almost 150k a month to maintain. And that's not counting the supplies/fuel. Just crew/officers plus 250 marines I kept around for raiding for supplies/fuel.

Starsector modders in shambles.

Apparently some YouTuber put up a video that had 3 seconds of footage from Rapesector in it as a joke. Note that this is still Starsector, any interactions are going to be entirely text. Said YouTuber got banned from the Unofficial Starsector Discord, which is apparently a thing, over this.

Then the "community" started clutching their pearls learning of the existence of Rapesector, but it was pretty split between "Omg this exists?" and "Look, let people be degenerates in their own version of a single-player game".

Fast forward a week or so, and PresidentMattDamon, a modder who appears to have inherited a number of popular faction mods over the years, has added malicious code to them which checks for the presence of Rapesector in your game, and if found, "devours your save", basically deleting all the references and tracking of everything your character has and has done. This has come to light and now everyone is mad at the guy for updating the mod to essentially include malware.

Modders stop being primadonna cunts for 5 minutes challenge.

Not the first time a modder has thrown malicious code in. The Starsector modding community is absolute garbage and I'm amazed at the shit Alex lets them get away with.

Yeah, thanks, boys, we're starting a new fleet tonight! and thanks to the poster a few above for mentioning that dude with a stick up his ass (probably a safe assumption for real). Make sure not run anything attached to him.

Not only that, a few of them they are moderators of the dumpsterfire which is the Unofficial Starsector Discord. Which is probably why the idiot in question thought he could get away with it.
