I suggest playing using www.rpol.net

It is THE site for pbp pnp rpgs. However, it is mostly only fun as long as you enjoy writing.

You could easily find people to play online here on the dex. But like anywhere else, everyone wants to play, nobody wants to GM.

I am (and others) looking for people to play. See the gazebo for the topic under my name. I am currently talking with some potential gms.

I'd GM myself but I don't feel quite comfortable with GMing for people I don't quite well know. Can be put up to anxiety really. Always feel like I'm being judged to some extent or another, or that people aren't liking what I am doing. Then again, my last group I had basically fell into the category of "Not all too well excited".

Also I am doing a game of Shadowrun with some buds of mine on weekends. They enjoyed the first session we ran last week :D. Great Success. All that reading is doing me good.

So, on this board, unless People change their mind we have about six including me. Then I have about three acquaintances who might join . Finally, also the dm.

So,far we have two solid offers. One is for roll 20, the offer is as follows:

I am a sucker for people wanting to try role playing. While i wouldn't run a continuous long game besides the rogue trader I am running I would be glad to run a one-shotish adventure for 4-5 people.

Games I can run:
Pathfinder
Legend of the 5 Rings
Call of Cthulhu
Dark Heresy
Death Watch

This week on Thursday or Friday would be ok for me. Next week Wednesday or Thursday would be ok.

The Second:

I would be interested in starting up something via play by post, but I really don't have the time to do something over VTT other than some informal how to play type sessions.

If'n you're looking for fantasy, I am quite comfortable with Pathfinder. We could merrily stroll along with any of the popular Adventure Paths, or (my preference) spend some quality sandbox time in the same home-brewed campaign my brother and my wife play every Friday night. For that matter, I am a collector of sorts, and have all of the MERP stuff, so if you really feel like it, we could play in Middle Earth (preferably with Pathfinder rules).

We could also play with a rules light system that's a bit of a retro clone called Castles and Crusades. It has some appeal for the OSR (Old School Rules) crowd, and is quite easy to learn as it has a lot less crunch than modern D&D systems (Pathfinder, 3.5, 4E, etc). There are a lot less people playing this system, however, so I find myself playing Pathfinder just because I can find players.

I have several other systems, including many post-apocalyptic or modern types (Dresden, Supernatural, Rifts, ShadowRun, D20 Modern, CthulhuTech etc), none of which I have spent any real time with, though.

With Pathfinder (or D&D 3.5 for that matter), it's easy to get access to reference documentation that is online, free, and legal. Any system you may end up with besides those 2 may not likely have a "for free" component for new players to start out on.

How serious of a game are you wanting? If it's more on the light side, I would be interested.

I'd be into it, but I have a habit of playing a bit chaotic and evilish, not necessarily chaotic stupid, but like real life, I somehow try to squeeze in there a male on female violation of some kind.

Personally, I just want to play. I'm thinking about taking the first offer for Dark Hersey of pathfinder, we could probably do a short campaign that last two days. . After that, I think I'm going to do a play-by-post of pathfinder with the second guy.

but, the question is, what for do guys want? I'm down for want the group wants.

Hell, I will do Call of Cthulhu. I just didn't think anybody else would. So, does anyone else? We got two people. He said five, so let's try to get three more.

I've only ever played DnD and Pathfinder. I would be willing to try anything, but I'm not a very good player if you want to take it very seriously.

I'd like to see how you guys run a game before I decide to say one way or another to join.
Will this type of thing be open to spectators and such i.e. totally online?

Well, the one I'm talking about now will only be one or two sessions (unless the gm changes his mind). Tuluse, I don't think anyone is going to take it too seriously.

Hey, if you do go Pathfinder, let me know.
I just recently started creating an Orc Fighter, from the Unbreakable Archtype. Rolled really good stats too, so I'd hate to let him go to waste.

So, it seems most have played pathfinder or would be willing to do it. SO, I guess I will ask the guy to go with that.
So, are the people who said they are still in....in? We have room for one more to.

I gotta build the character sheet but yeah, I'd be interested. Could I see what the other sheets look like, so I know what type of format you guys are using?

Does anyone here have any experience with the Alpha Centauri GURPS PnP game? I've been meaning to try that for years and I think the online format would be more flexible for DMing and such.

Either that or the Star Trek one made by Decipher.

blackhart, I can't say what level it will be yet, until I confirm with the person that we are doing pathfinder.

I have no friends who will play these types of games. So, where should I start if I want to try to play some? Should I try meetups in my City? Should I look for online communities? What would be a better experience in your opinion?

Also, what games would you recommended for a first timer.

Yep, look for meetups.

Try going to several, the difference can be night and day depending on the personality of the players and especially the GM.

If you are curious about game mechanics in PnP, try going to a convention. They are usually over the weekend and you can sample all kinds of different games (as well as meet people who you might want to play with on a more regular basis).
