I'm surprised that nobody mentioned No One Lives Forever, considering how many people around here seem to gush over that.
SWAT 4 is almost perfect, but SWAT 3 is also pretty good.
Pretty much anything released on consoles during the PS2 era and the PS3 era are going to fit what you're asking for.
If you can get it to run, Pathways into Darkness is a masterpiece.

Realms of the Haunting is the slowest paced FPS I've played. It's mostly puzzles and FMV sequences but you will need to fight the good fight to progress in certain parts.

Being a take on Gears of War styled popamole cover shooter Binary Domain is on the slower side but worth playing. From the guys behind Yakuza it had a bit more brains than contemporary styled shooters: locational damage with robots reacting differently based on said damage, npc relation meters that change the story a teeny bit, weapon upgrades and special attacks with them, and was just more fun than you expect from a

You could try Hedon, it's pretty much what you want.

Sure the creator is a coomer so you will be seeing a lot of thicc chicks and few naked ones in secret locations.

But the level design is great, story is surprisingly decent and the combat itself is very satisfactory.

Call of Juarez Gunslinger (short)
...but sweet.
I love so much about that game. The point system, the snappy guns, the Sergio Leone sound design, appearances of real-life historical figures, the narration and the gags based around it. Remember the mine level, when the narrator went "which is what I would've done, if I was stupid!", and then the whole level played in reverse, and you had to continue down a different path? That was so funny and inventive.

No one lives forever, the first is legendary though the sequel is a better sandbox from what I’ve seen. I loved bound in blood though I nearly exclusively played multiplayer.

There’s a ps2 fps that involves crafting that could be good. Maybe other Sony shooters like timesplitters and Killzone, or the odd world fps that came out.

I recommend the first Call of Juarez(2006). It's an excellent mix of straightforward action and slower paced sections with stealth. The few adventuring sections are also good and reminded me of classic action/adventure movies like Indiana Jones. Overall an excellent single player game

True, but the sequel (Bound In Blood) is even better. One of my favorite wild west games. Loved the opening where you gun down yankee scum during the civil war.

never played NOLF

Talking of NOLF, what's the best way to play it (and the sequel) thesedays?

I seem to remember people saying the fan made unofficial patches still had a lot of issues on modern systems, but that might have been out of date info.

Posted on the 2nd page. I haven't tested it yet, but this seems to be the definitive version.

Yeah I'm familiar with the revival, but at least in the past I still remember people saying there were remaining issues.

I'm just curious whether those ended up getting resolved.

NOLF works just fine with the dgVoodoo wrapper. I don't think it even needs any fan patches.

NOLF 1&2 are very good. After you download them from http://nolfrevival.tk/ you can also apply modernizer patches from
https://haekb.itch.io/nolf-modernizer and
https://haekb.itch.io/nolf2-modernizer retrospectively.
There are some minor issues but it should work nicely (modernizer for NOLF2 has some graphic issues here and there, have that in mind)

Btw, here are few more:

XIII (if you are still hungry for some spy-secret agent stuff)
Thief trilogy (for some cool quasi medieval fantasy thriller action and sneaking) + plenty of Fan missions which can give you even more stories and adventures
Splinter cell 1,2,3 and Max Payne 1,2 (TPS I know but in my case they usually go side by side ) + Chameleon (2005) (obscure TPS in vein of Splinter cell and H&D2)
Riddick - Escape from Butcher Bay (very cool SF prison break game)
F.E.A.R.
Condemned - Criminal Origins (Slow paced horror thriller - less guns, more melee)
Zeno Clash 1&2 (No comment, check for yourself xD , similar to the Condemned and Riddick in terms of melee fights)

You Are Empty (atmospheric FPS located in mutated USSR with eerie empty streets and occasional mutated working drones)
Cryostasis (Creepy Icebreaker...and time has frozen)
Mundaun (mysterious horror thriller adventure set in Switzerland mountains)

TimeSplitters 2 if you liked Goldeneye/Perfect Dark.
Bro you meant to say ‘timeshitters 2 if you liked timeshitters 1 if you liked perfect dark if you liked goldeneye which if you did you're retarded’

Btw what even counts as slower paced, we're listing everything right now, da hek. Guess I'll just say PLAY SIN OR ELSE
