Wow! This actually looks really good. An (spiritual) Ultima game at last! I'm withdrawing my pledge to Torment and pledging to this game. :incline:

I... really do not understand. This guy had the potential to break kickstarter, and what he does? Basically a "MMO". And he uses Ultima 9 in the video. Ultima 9!!!!!
Fuck it. Going back to my lurker status.

BTW - It was $30 million he paid to go into space.

You have to be a fucking degenerate, spotty faced little greb twat to prioritise making a shitty computer game over a chance to go into fucking space...space you cunts.

paid her off not to endorse Torment? ;)

anyway. I'm not backing this until I've seen some updates on game systems and stuff.

Eh, I think, all things considered, this falls on the not so sucky side of the spectrum. It is PC-based, not a MMO (has multi-player but can be played off-line / solo), classless, crafting, houses. Many UO elements but not a MMO. On the negative side, however, is lack of a party and that it is almost certainly not turn-based. Those are two huge losses. Still, given LB and what he felt about the older games (that they were constrained by technology and that's why we got what we got), this is about as good as I expected.

So this is basically a pseudo-MMO with 2001 graphics, awful animations and popamole gameplay... I think I need to watch that Shadowrun video again.

Looks like he wants to make a game like the original Guild Wars.
Not entirely sure I can blame him on the compromise, it's pretty clear his passion is on the Multiplayer side and there are a lot of people who consider UO pre-Trammel to be their one true MMO love.

From Lord British's Treatise on "What is an Ultimate RPG?":
Fully interactive virtual world - If it looks usable, it should do something
Deep original fiction - Ethical parables, cultural histories, fully developed alternate language text
Physical game components will be available: Cloth map, fictional manuals, trinkets
Multiplayer Online Game - which can also be played solo player / offline
Classless character system:

Unlike most RPGs, players will not be limited to the class they select at the beginning of the game.
AKA respec.

Player housing:

Player housing will live in the persistent shared world, so real estate will have location value.

Once a house is purchased, players will need to pay regular taxes on it of course. But as a special thank you to select Kickstarter supporters, all housing obtained by making a Kickstarter pledge of Citizen, Lord, Baron, Duke or Lord of the Manor will be tax free for life!

Shroud of the Avatar indeed.

It's kind of weird that the FAQ states that this isn't an MMO, and yet basically the entire pitch sounds like it is describing one. Ah well, my apathy towards this continues.

For your $10 donation you will receive a clear conscience and Lord British's undying gratitude.
    Estimated delivery: Oct 2014

I can't help but think EA (and most of the industry) will be rather shitty at seeing him so complacent at the idea of piracy. Amusing

The kickstarter is at $57.000 and going up quickly. Not as much as Torment though :smug:

Screenshots look like Mount & Blade, except that everything that makes Mount & Blade good is apparently out.
