Witcher 3.
Well, Blood and Wine technically is a late game content storywise.

Contrarian opinion incoming - lategame content in Vtm: Bloodlines is great, it puts player character combat/stealth skills to the test, the real test.

Also Morrowind with Chaos Heart global mod, the Dagoth Ur path. Really puts all of the games content to a greater extended use.

Death Knights of Krynn (managed to hold my attention span to the end)
Mass Effect 1 (after beginning, doing fed ex if you do optionals etc, build that were made right, really incorporate with final missions)
Shadowrun: Dragonfall (very balanced all around)
Wasteland 2 DC (it's bit all around case, but overall things start to happen)

Bard's Tale 3. The dungeons got increasingly more interesting, with the penultimate one the peak.

Looking forward to playing this when the remastered version by Krome Studios comes out, which should be any day now (early 2019?). I'm sure they'll do justice to it. Speaking of which, the true Bard's Tale IV aka Dragon Wars (by the same team that did BT3) had such a strong story and so many different ways to approach quests and logical puzzles to solve (unlike BT1 & BT2 which had some incredibly obtuse and frustrating puzzles) I felt was strong all the way through but it will challenge your skills as a computer role-player and avoiding getting lost.

Ultima 5.
Ultima 6.
Ultima Underworld.
Ultima Underworld 2.
Ultima 7: The Black Gate.
Ultima 7: Serpent Isle.

Seriously, guys. Not seeing those games there in a list that talks about holding your attention throughout is rather painful...

Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor has a painfully slow start but speeds up and gets more interesting in the second half.

Really? I was almost castrated by Felipepe for praising the game. He thought the exact opposite - that the story falls completely flat after an interesting opening and that combat stays horrible all the way through. I've only played the dungeon portion of the game, so I don't know how the game develops later on.
