So not Keef the Thief or MM3-5?

I remember some decent jokes in M&M III, like a sign: "Beware of the trees" when entering the forest close to the swamp city (of course, you get "treant" enemies to fight there) and the "oh no! bugs" which are well named because the second time you encounter them, early game, you're like : "Oh no! Not the bugs again" and that's if you survived the first encounter.

Hilarious. Almost as fun as sock eating creature in Anachronox!

Perhaps rpgs as a genre declined with years, but the humor sure improved when they've started being written by actual writers, not the same pimpled nerds who created the code of the game.

LISA The Painful has some wonderful humour, both light-hearted and dark.
One moment that really stuck with me ever since I played it was a Metal Gear Solid 3-esque climb.
The climb takes about 2 minutes of in-game time, it plays this triumphant and motivating song as you ascend, all the while you can’t help but wonder what’s at the end.
But once you reach the top...

It’s just a literal middle finger.
It also doesn’t let you walk off the sides of the platform to kill yourself, it forces you to either climb all the way back down in complete silence, or to Alt F4.
Ah, Lisa. Too bad the Codex's prejudice against anything that just remotely smells Japanese, even though the devs aren't even Japs, caused the thread for the game to be nestled in the depths of JRPG subforum.

Why has no one mentioned Jagged Alliance? That's right, they're not RPGs.

VtM:Bloodlines had some memorably funny moments:

Funniest characters overall, I'd have to pick Miltiades. Just a perfect mix of dialogue, quests and wonderful character portrait. Morte is also an all time great.

I love a lot of characters and situations in Fallout 2, like Myron, Sulik, the Mafia boss teenage daughter sub-plot, etc. Too bad about the other stuff.

Most of the funny stuff in RPGs is not related to funny dialogue, though. It's about having the freedom to be creative and create (often by accident) absurd situations that cannot happen anywhere else. The best time I've ever had playing an RPG was with Ultima 7, when me and my cousing would murder people around Trinsic, then drag them to an empty house to perform "rituals" with all the candles we stole from the church. This was before I had enough English to understand the dialogue.

I've always found some of the possible replies in Arcanum/VTMB really, really funny. I mostly mean rude/edgy/weird stuff of course, like "I would rather just dispose of your body", racial/clan remarks, trolling the shit out of Lily etc etc. In Arcanum, even when you play an evil char you wouldn't want to click them all the time since you would turn everyone hostile eventually but you still have the replies there and enjoying yourself. Fallout had some of those too but to a lesser degree. So often it was worth to just reload and try various ways to conduct a certain dialogue.

I remember how some RPGs tried to ape that (well, or just come up with that by themselves) and failed miserably like ATOM (fair to say I'm not digging their approach to dialogues in general at all, so) but there's one game that topped them all at that and of course it's Disco Elysium. Man, it's no coincidence that by trying to play "normal" char you will notice that you're getting "boring cop" rep points. That's not a game where one should do it fo sure! I had so much fun doing all sorts of crazy shit and provoking characters in there it's just insane. And that's just one, surface layer of humor there.

Other than that I enjoy what's been mentioned: good banter in party based RPGs. I was fucking amazed by Wiz 8 party members remarks while getting into it being M&M series fan. Like there and like in BG1/2/P:T/DA:O/Kotor/ME the most funny stuff usually came up when you have quite mixed party and the contrast between them is making it so fun sometimes out of nowhere. No one mentioned JA2 yet? Character bits is what makes overall experience much more fun - that's where some of the local grognards are losing me by the way since apparently they don't care about that side of party-based games and prefer party members as silent mindslaves.

The Witcher series has its moments, too.

VtMB has some great humor. Sometimes it's dark but a lot of times it's satirical and it's often in the form of NPCs.

A Malk playthrough has a lot of hilarity and the radio itself is brilliant:

I'm very into cock and ball torture
I think the best humor I experienced in video games was from Planescape Torment as well as Age of Decadence. In Torment, Morte's snappy dialogue is the best. Paranoid rambling from past life nameless one is hilarious as well. Love that little journal you find in the maze from him. Later in the game you get to confront him and the banter is comedic with how each reincarnation interacts with the paranoid one.

In Age of Decadence. Easily my most memorable moment is the bull demon from the Wizard's tower. The way the thing makes fun of low INT character is awesome.

That's all you deserve for playing jrpgs, it should be a feature in every jrpg.
Now i think of it, it already is....

If it's just typical light hearted humor like Larian's games then i get bored easily.

I prefer something edgy. I loved cruel dialogue options or quest solutions in Bioware's games or in Troika's games. They always used to crack me up. Gothic 2 was hilarious at times, i remember taking a two hander from mercenary to try and lift it as a challenge and then refusing to give it back to him. He gets really mad and chases you around Onar's farm. Gothic series aways had a way of getting you into fights and it was really funny.

Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming! Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Haven't seen mention of Frayed Knights yet.

I second the Frayed Knights recommendation for a funny RPG, though its brand of humor (like all humor really) might not be for everyone.

It is also a very good free roaming blobber too.

It was good to see this game mentioned. I remember another part where some people/kids were on fire and a guy on the hill tells you to run and get water. On the next screen over there is a bucket. I grabbed that, returned and tossed it on the people.

And the guy on the hill yells at me for tossing gasoline on the burning people. The bucket of water was two screens over or something.

Other games I thought were funny are the South Park RPGs and West of Loathing. Most RPGs have a funny quest or two in them.
