I can see why the person who wrote the RPGWatch review liked the writing in PoE. His writing style is a lot like PoE's writing style. Overly wordy but not really saying much. In desperate need of editing.
Ahahahaha, RPW watch review is like PoE, overyl wordy? AHAHAHAHAHA And what is the Darth Roxor Review?

Good review. While you also touch on the negatives (and I can agree with them), it is nice that it is not written in a cynical, negative manner. At least I can take it seriously. :P

I would say that Darth Roxor says more with his words. It isnt about the quantity of words being used. It is about the amount of words being used without actually conveying any information or opinion.

Probably the toughest decision in the game has to be made at the outset: Character Creation. So many choices, so many possibilities, so little direction. If one assumes that the average person to play this game won’t have spent hours either on the forums, or playing the beta version, then the manual is not particularly helpful considering the differences between the classes/races available in Pillars compared to the perhaps better known ones from Dungeons & Dragons. Sadly, since 1998 the one thing which has gone backwards in gaming is the usefulness of the ‘game manual’.

That is one example from the review. I feel like a whole paragraph is used but it says little. There are similar paragraphs around it. Whole review is like that actually.

I tried so hard to give this game a chance. Tried to like the boring combat. I did the same for Dragon Age. Before Dragon Age I even considered myself a Bioware fan. So before I just uninstall this game does anyone have any suggestions how to get some fun out of it first? I was thinking of going with 6 Ciphers armed with arbalests. What would be the cheesiest equivalent of 6 Sorcerers or Ranger-Clerics or Kensai-Mages in BG2? I don't think this game is quite as bad as DA:O in terms of trash mobs though. At least there is more than one kind of foe in PoE. But ultimately a game without well thought out encounter design and without an interesting selection of foes is going to get boring pretty fast.

I would personally recommend increasing difficulty and trying to win encounters that are designed to be above your level. Multiple wipes makes you use positioning and other things. It also makes you appreciate the encounter design.

The whole paragraph says that the game manual sucks and its hard for a new player to figure things out in the start of the game. Both statements are true in my opinion. Now darth Roxor would say that manual shit and is worse than IE and most of other games, while doing in edgy way, without saying why it is important and where it should be improved. Tbh DR review is not a review, but a long-winded rant.

Exactly the thing I was talking about. There are hundreds of reviews like this and they are all equally dull to read.

Great story and writing
But nothing in review explains what exactly makes it so. There is "a story with your Main Character". So original, of much importance. And companions, they have quests! No going into depth about the main theme of the game even (Souls). I'm surprised the only spoiler in paragraph about act 3 wasn't edited out.

Excellent character creation
But reviewer hand waves the paragraph with "there are so many classes, would take too long to explain". "Every build is viable, there are no dump stats" - just repeats main design goal as stated by JS, with no breaking down on system whatsoever. Compare it to angry troll Roxor who talked about every attribute and why he thought there were good or bad.

Fabulous quests
Not a single example of a quest from the game, just generic "you can sometimes talk your way out of fighting". But guess what - sometimes you can't, if you judge by his opinion on combat, so... er.

Based on the old IE games
Well, that we can get from looking on a single screenshot.

Combat can be a mess
Never explains why it is so mechanically, just "6 characters are hard". Really, the game is combat oriented and there is a lot of unavoidable trash combat but there is like one paragraph about combat which doesn't tell you anything about it, yet states that it was "the most frustrating thing in the game" for the reviewer.
You could more or less stitch together and it would mostly be about no kill xp and poor encounters and healing... but not about combat system itself.

Little or no XP for combat
This one is all over the place, mixed in with his opinions on encounters, plot, acts 2 & 3, mega dungeon, so it seems like the most important and critical part, but reviewer jumps from topic to topic. Still it's explained why it's a flaw. Unleash DraQ.

Some good ideas poorly implemented
Okay.

Last part of game gets tedious
Doesn't really go indepth on the plot and why it so, yet review says it is still "enjoyable experience".

So what did we learn from this review? We learned there are *things* in this game. That it's necessary to read the fucking manual *gasp*. And there are like main plot & companions. And some dungeons. Crafting, too... even if reviewer never bothered to explain what it's even about. And that combat xp is good, but listening to Minsc is bad.

This is not important, that is not essential, this might be a spoiler, and that is just my opinion. Four out of five stars, would sleep again.

P.S. Angry Joe did better criticism of PoE in his review than monocled gent from Watch. :M

Although the combat tends to be fairly easy even on the so called 'path of the damned' difficulty level try attacking your own caravan right at the start of the game. That seems like a tough battle. I have not managed to survive that battle yet. It is funny to see how effective a tank can be against so many adversaries. I started the game as a ranger with a bear pet and the bear absorbs so much 'aggro' from the angry crowd. Anyone try soloing the game as one of the weaker characters like a lowly mage? The problem I have is that even if you try to make a weak character the combat is still boring.

Can anyone explain the whole 'lets stab infinitron' vibe I am getting ? I am a 'newfag' and I have no idea why everyone wants to stab him.
lol Irenaeus . It ever occured to you that perhaps your support might end up being a detractor ?

Infinitron is the hero the Codex deserves, but not the one it needs right now.

That picture and the quote we saw before from sekrit forum seem to imply some behind the scenes drama.

Is it perhaps possible that a kind mod or even DarkUnderlord himself will let all of us revel in the DRAMA?

Nothing special, just that it's your duty as human being to stab Infinitron in the neck

I remember when you joined. I was shoutboxing. 3 weeks ago? You have much to learn, kid.
Its nice that you remember me and that you can do some basic math and have access to a calender. This doesn't really answer my question though.

RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In
Yeah, that fucking pit was the only memorable part of the megadungeon. I climbed down there and found myself having to fight a boss fight (it turned out later I didn't have to do it) try to breach through two levels of the dungeon with no supplies, trying to fight as little as possible. Very different to blasting myself through every enemy without caring much about anything. Obsidian should do more dungeons you can't leave between certain points, because that's were resting mechanics become interesting and the game shines.
