I don't remember if you can see splashing in the water. You can usually spot them if you carefully look for their breath and body fluids. Those are vaguely visible.

Reading that list I realize how much a theme park the original RE4 is. For a lot of moments it's pure dumbfuckery, though it's very fun.

The remake seems it keeps dumb things in a lot of instances, although overall it's has a better tone/presentation.

Let's not pretend like the classic Resident Evil trilogy was some super serious work of horror. They had their campy moments. Zero and Code Veronica, which I don't think anyone would deny as the rightful brethren of the original 3 games, included a villain who controlled leeches via opera singing, Wesker re-enacting scenes from The Matrix, and all the silliness of the Ashford Family which arguably surpasses that of Salazar in RE4.

In terms of tone, RE4 isn't out of step with the games that preceded it. Compare it to the dryer, more "serious" tone of RE5, 6, and much of 7.

Now, I don't think the "campiness" of the classic Resident Evil games is something that either invalidates them or elevates them, like some who would argue that a campy tone is fundamental to Resident Evil (a notion with which I completely disagree). I just acknowledge the campy tone as something often inherent to horror, video games, and Japanese media. I don't believe RE4 was consciously attempting to be campy either (something often parroted as fact); it just turned out that way. You can take it or you can leave it, but RE4 isn't worse than previous RE games in this regard.

You cannot honestly compare the few campy moments in the original trilogy with the total schlock that was RE4?

The original had its moments but most of the time it wasn't intentional, it just came about because of poor translations, voice acting, and directing. Whereas RE4 just embraced absurdity and took it to whole new heights, with no trace of the DNA from the original trilogy to be found.

And now the franchise will never truly return to its roots because everyone just prefers sloppy garbage and are easily entertained by the spectacle of it all. There is no Survival Horror to be found here, no suspense, no atmosphere. Just a never-ending shooting gallery in a wacky theme-park.



Crapcom didn't even try to recreate this amazing sequence in RE3 Remake because they are lazy and couldn't care less about the source material. There is no passion left in that studio. These remakes have been nothing but a cash grab as they rushed towards RE4 because they know that's where the big $$$$ is. You will come to realize this truth when you play this new RE4 that's like walking into a theme park where half the attractions are closed or removed entirely. Crapcom don't even care about their golden child anymore either because idiot consumers are still buying it day 1 in droves and will give it a 10/10 for it's graphics and presentation.

It's not true that all the camp of the original can be chalked up to localization issues. Firstly, none of the voice acting was the result of localization; there is no Japanese voice acting, and the English script was directly written by the Japanese team, with the exception of notes and other non-voiced material. Even without voice acting, characters like Barry and Rebecca are still pretty silly (not that this is a bad thing necessarily). There's still giant spiders and other 1950s B-movie monsters. In what way? What is so absurd about RE4 that isn't already present in RE games that preceded it? If you took RE4 and kept everything about it the same (story, characters, writing, etc), except you changed the gameplay into being like RE3, then this wouldn't even be a point of contention.

Isn't this remake considerably more serious than the original? Besides, the RE2 remake only came out a few years ago, and that was also way more serious than the original RE2. The RE2 remake was also arguably less action-focused and more horror-focused than any of the 3 original games.

I'm not ignoring CV and RE0, they just aren't on my radar because I prefer the original Playstation 1 trilogy and the backstory there and I'm disappointed Crapcom decided to shit on those games with their RE2 and RE3 remakes which had more in common, gameplay wise, with RE4, RE5, and RE6, which is fucking bullshit really. Modern day Crapcom obviously don't have the talent or the passion to be able to do anything other than action shooting galleries and that's a sad fact as they cater to RE4 fans who prefer this over the shoulder shooting copy and paste shit.

Go back and look at the events of the original trilogy. The secrecy, the lab, and the events that unfolded in Racoon City leading to it's destruction. It's a rather dark story without a very happy ending to many people. Now look at RE4, we have superhero Leon saving the presidents daughter from the evil bad and doing judo kicks and fighting giant ogres and shit. Nemesis is something entirely different and is not like something you'd see in Twilight, Lord of the Rings, or Harry Potter or some other fantasy world, unlike the shit you see in RE4.

It doesn't matter how you slice it, these are action games. That includes RE2 Remake which is just an action shooting gallery game with a horror theme. Throwing in a few puzzles here and there that are reminiscent of the original game doesn't suddenly make it a faithful recreation, it's just honey trapping you into thinking you are playing something more than a 3rd person shooter, which is what it absolutely is.

RE4 fans are never satisfied. They have had the privilege of back-to-back love letters to their favorite game for close to 20 years now, yet they become disgruntled every time someone speaks up and says they want something more reminiscent of the classics. But what do we ever get? Nothing. Crapcom couldn't even do the series justice just one time with the RE2 Remake. They initially announced it as a REMAKE but then later did a 180 and emphasized it was a 'Re-imagining', because Crapcom realized that making something in the spirit of the original trilogy would actually take effort and talent, and it would be easier if they just made it a 3rd person shooter so they could recycle it later for RE4. That is the ONLY reason. Just pure laziness and no passion.

RE3 Remake was obviously rushed because "it's only Jill and where's ada? Let's just get it out of the way so we can make RE4 already" and it was funny to see people actually hoping for a CV remake. It's fucking sad to see but that's the state of the gaming industry today, everything gets recycled year after year you get a new Madden game and a new Fifa and also a new shooting gallery Resident Evil. I'd rather wait 10 years between releases and get a real Resident Evil game. Fuck all of you for letting this happen.

On topic, I usually hate all remakes/remasters, but REmake was truly great (especially when it originally came out. I consider it better than the original, a rare feat) and RE2 was pretty decent. Not as good as the original game, but about as good as you can expect in this day and age, all things considered. Capcom is probably the only videogame company from my youth that's still making quality games. DMC5 was pretty great, I love Dragon's Dogma even though that was a decade ago and Monster Hunter, although it's now closer to a pure action game, is still good too. Rise is a quality game with a lot of attention to detail. The latest Megaman (11?) was pretty enjoyable as well.

I'll probably play the RE4 remake when it's deeply discounted or some shit. No rush at all. I don't think it'll be better than the original at any rate.

Have you actually played the RE2 remake? I don't think it's as good as the original, but it is without a doubt more challenging when it comes to resource management and evading enemies. By no means does it share more with RE4 than the original trilogy; I think it's most similar to the RE1 remake.

Now look at RE1, we have supercops Chris and Jill shooting zombies made by the evil bad scientist and fighting giant sharks and shit. Fucking popamole!

I mean, isn't that what RE7 and RE2R were? That's how most people saw it, anyway. If you want a game with fixed camera angles then I'm afraid Capcom is never going to deliver that. It's a shame, since I like that style of game, but it is what it is. We've already got at least 3 great fixed camera angle Resident Evil games, as well as numerous other classic survival horror games of that style, so I don't see the point in crying about wanting more.

My face is tired of arguing with RE4 fans. There's nothing I can do or say that will convince them that RE4 and everything that came after was shit-house. They'll just turn around and shit on the classic trilogy in an effort to make RE4 look better by comparison.

I'm done with you losers. Enjoy your 10/10 trash remake that nobody needed. But it's all deserve.
