Don't forget Capcom decided that they too would bow down to The Matrix hype in CV with bullet-time cutscene action. What was cutting-edge cool in 1999 (still cool, in the source material only) was already making other media dated by 2000.

Glad to see someone call this out. Slow-mo triggers me so much. In gameplay, it's OP as hell in almost all instances (Max Payne has likely been the only acceptable implementation to date) In cutscenes, it always comes across as cringey, and in movies it is always just thrown in because the talentless fucks that make them think it is cool when it isn't really. It's only cool when your action has substance/quality to it in the first place (e.g The Matrix).

It's been 22 years and they've not stopped with the fucking slow-mo effect used inappropriately and excessively. Even the Matrix only used it like 3 times, and it had plot justification for it!

It is cool when:

-It is used sparingly, as with most effects.
-The action has substance in the first place (non-negotiable)
-There is quality detail to show/emphasize by slow-mo that would otherwise be missed.
-There is plot relevance (e.g the Matrix, or time travel themes).
-It is not OP - implemented with balance firmly in mind (when used in gameplay).

Anyone using it outside of these rules should stop creating media. You suck.

...and [RE] 5 for some fun couch coop.
I like RE 5 as a single player, too. But I have to use a trainer to make my partner immortal and take away all weapons / items, so I can play it somewhat-solo. Another note; I was expecting Capcom to bring Sheva back as a main protoganist in latest RE games, since we live in a woke age.

salazar now looks like a grandma, leon had a pointless redesign, claire looks like a more retarded version of her real life face scan model, more to come.
I never liked photo-realism in video games. I prefer stylish / psuedo-realistic direction of older games, and RE 4 was really good in that regard. Old Leon design was a knock-off Dante; a little arrogant, strong, womanizer. You can tell his character by looking a photo of him. The new Leon design on the other hand... I don't know, I'm not a Redditor so I can't shill about it. He feels like completely different character (whole tone of the remake feels like that honestly).

well the thing is, is it even photo-realism? i think what bugs me and most people with any kind of standards is the uncanny valley factor just went up here, instead of down. and yeah, he is different, too different - the whole remake is, that's what it feels like anyway.

and clashing with a knife against a chainsaw wielding crazed killer? it's like a 12 year olds idea of cool, and while maybe you could conceivably do this because chainsaws typically aren't good to use against metal, it's just fucking goofy and to use a 7 inch knife with a tiny crossguard? it's just retarded to put your hand anywhere near that. and just like RE5 you probably can't get decapitated for failing the fight because it's "too violent" or something.

Yeah, that scene in the trailer bugged me, too. If it was in original RE 4, I could accept it. Because RE 4 has a campy B-Movie charm and the scene wouldn't clash with the overall tone. However, they went a grim-dark and "mature" tone with the remake. So that scene feels out of place. It's as if developers doesn't know which route should they go; original RE 4's campy route for old fans, or "mature" route for game journos and reddit/twitch folk.

I think it's actually even more retarded because there's no way he could keep his arms up with the chain dragging the knife down really fast, bumping/shaking violently against it with each tooth. Yeah, why would you even attempt it?

I like Max Payne, but overpowered there too. The games, like F.E.A.R., are piss-easy because of it. Max's adrenaline is abundant. I wouldn't implement a feature like that even if I were to make a John Woo-style shooter.

Because he saw the news reports of the events of Resident Evil 6 and knew that physics do not exist in this world.

Stupid. What is with this shit? All these modern remakes and continuations absolutely butcher the originals, but the Japanese have a uniquely weird way of going about it. What is with this style, and what do we call it? "Animaction"? "Loliphysics"? Solid Snake riding on missiles, Cloud Strife doing somersault attacks on a motorbike, Chris Redfield Punching boulders...it's really dumb. It's like they think it is stylish and cool but for me it just makes me think they're fucking retarded. There is one game it works and that's Devil May Cry's Dante, because he is a demon, the gameplay itself involves physics-defying action (e.g shooting guns fast makes you float in the air), and the game doesn't take itself seriously. But it seems like since the late 00s various grounded Japanese action moved away from somewhat believable* to this One Punch Man/DBZ garbage. Japanese action used to have substance man. Chris Redfield didn't beat the tyrant to death with his bare hands or deflect its claws with his tiny knife, because that makes fuck all sense. He blew it the fuck up with a rocket launcher. Snake took out tanks and apaches with, you guessed it, anti-tank/air weaponry. Cloud...OK there was always flashy shit there but it still made much more sense and had more appeal in its original style.

Still, lame as this trend is it's all better than the west's takes, where they turn everything into feminized garbage, or other lame shit like adding slo-mo and shaky cam to everything.

*There was always anime action from JP with zero substance, but there was also the opposite. Again, a link for reference.

are any of the RE movies good?
kinda in the mood for tits and zoms

If you like "so bad it's good" kinda VHS / DVD movies, you may enjoy RE : Apocalypse (2004). I never understood why they created a new female character though; games already had two established babes -Jill and Claire-.

Anderson likes casting his wife (then GF iirc).

Dunno why he didn't just cast Mila as Jill though in the first place and then had her be in all the movies.

This is saying no QTEs which would definitely be straight incline. That needs to remain in the mid 2000s
But in the video above there's definitely a QTE when grabbed by the zombie. I guess they're just removing shit like the Indiana Jones boulder?
