I played the olden one numerous times even when it was still fairly fresh back in the late 90s but didn't ever get overly far if memory serves.. X)
Maybe I should replay it now.

Startrail is actually pretty short and you can play through in a weekend if you are following the clues who to speak to. According to your LP about Startrail HD it seems, some dialog is changed/new but I'm not entirely sure. Maybe I missed some in the old game.

Did you play the latest version in your LP? Can you tell how buggy the game still is? Would you recommend it for people who enjoyed the original one? The radial interface seems worse than the original one and combat looks terrifying...

Play it with some friends and booze of your choice. It is worth some good laughs (especially if you know some technical development & game design yourself) and having friends around takes away some of the frustration.

It's like watching a horrible B-movie remake of your all-time favourite movie.

Couldn't say it any better than sheepie here .. :D I concur.

The DLC is pure undiluted rip-off though (duh), skip it.
And put combat to a much higher speed setting, and put the armor tanks on aggressive attack always always.. and get as heavy armor as you can find. Then auto-combat x100 speed everything as much as possible, that way you'll get somewhere.

And yes I have LPed the latest version (1.33 and 1.33a at this point), and the DLC dungeons. It all in all is fairly functional, still crashes incessantly though, and there may be some other oddities as well. I've had some manner of twisted fun.

Dunno, doesn't sound like it's worth buying for me. I rather stick with the originals then if combat is something you want to skip as fast as possible in this version.
According to the latest patch lists there were still basic functions missing which the original already had. Therefore I'm not sure what it could still missing...
The graphics aren't that bad except the 3d characters which look horrible and ruin everything the new graphics could have improved.
The only thing that would count towards the remake for me would be the automap which looks pretty functional. But on the other side the original had a automap, too and navigating wasn't that difficult. If they would have at least introduced the new rule system.
I guess the developers had their chance. But all things considered I don't see really anything that would justify the remake.
Wasn't too long ago I finished the original Startrail and I can still import my party to the sequel.

I guess other than for comedic effect I could not really recommend it either.
What they still haven't added is I think a moderate amount of spells that the original had, as well as they axed one character class (admittedly a very useless one, though).

Oh yeah Star Trail HD isn't even made yet, this is still Blade of Destiny. :D

Damn, I meant Blade of Destiny, not Startrail. Not interested in comedy value, there are LPs for this. A lot of chances unused in the remake...

Everybody who moaned about technical issues should take a second look at the console versions, since they're being ported by an outside team of specialists:

Die Portierung ist zum Einen durch die Verwendung von Unity nicht so schwer wie man meinen möchte, zum Anderen wird diese nicht von uns Crafties gemacht, sondern von einem eigens dafür angeheuerten Team.

Hahaha I love this video... and that isn't even the launch version anymore by far as the patch log indicates; but I can tell by the NPCs.. there were like 3 generations of NPCs, the ones in town you see here were like gen 2. The first generation NPCs looked so ridiculously stupid, it was just glorious and I want them back.
They were like some kind of all identical zombie Baldricks..

The new models have a lot more diversity and style:

I see they kept the laminated look for the characters, so at least they're aiming for consistency. However, an oversized codpiece and small Simon the Sorceror hat do not qualify as style.

I haven't played the original one, but I found HD remake one has many negative reviews, mostly because poorly launch. Is it worth buying now?

Yes.

If you won't like it, perhaps Dragon Age and Mass Effect are more suitable for you.

If you have not played the original, you should do so.
I can think of no reason whatsoever, why anyone would want to play the remake.
Even with its main problem (all houses look alike) it is a very charming game. Even if the remake was good, it couldn't reproduce that charm.

The fact that almost all houses look alike is not a main problem. I rather slightly bothered by unability to shoot diagonally and XP cost of saving game from the top of my head. Still it's a great game. Really great.
