Approaching $50K with almost an entire month to go.

I predict you guys will hit a quarter million.
No they need to advertise it a lot more, there's not a word about them on popular gaming forums. Not even on reddit. Its easy to make this succeed and get attention but i am not going to do it, since they dont want to discuss here with us anymore.

There are several threads on reddit. But yeah, they didn't climb high enough. This was the highest climber. Would be good if some mainstream cattle site would cover it and then have its minions spam reddit with the article link.

Its easy to make this succeed and get attention but i am not going to do it,

Why not do what you can? That said, I think it's gonna make it over the line.

since they dont want to discuss here with us anymore.

I must have missed something.

Yeah, you did.

Jarl may have resigned, but HobGoblin42 was in this thread either yesterday or the day before. Ceres did not cut contact. They just didn't want a self-professed national socialist on the staff at the time of the kickstarter. The reactionary butthurt here was delectable.

It's good to see him back answering some questions but let's not rewrite history, they were pretty clear about cutting contact for a while...

He literally put “left” in quotation marks and has been pretty active here since the Kickstarter started. It’s ridiculous for someone to claim he cut contact when he’d just posted in the other Realms Beyond thread earlier that evening. He was bitching about people shitting up gaming threads with politics—who doesn’t bitch about that? He didn’t delete his account. He didn’t actually stop posting.

JarlFrank HobGoblin42 Right now everything sounds amazing.
But I am forced to make a question about the 'survival' elements as well.

How well would you say the game works from a 'survival\battle of attrition' aspect? I mean: Let's say I prefer to only save in towns, or in resting areas.
Will I ever face questions of "Hey I'm pretty far into this dungeon, but running super low on supplies, I oughta head back", or "Hey this enemy really is super strong, I should come back later"?
Is there a way to flee battles that you feel outclassed in?

Ok bro, perhaps we just have different definitions when it comes to 'pretty active', as to me returning after a 17 month 'break' to announce you won't be answering questions here because of past butthurt doesn't really qualify, even if it is followed up by two more posts about 'shittalking the Codex' / not wanting a Codex fundraiser. But I genuinely hope this campaign succeeds so I'll leave this derail there.

I wager that will be answered in a future update. Still plenty of days left and plenty of updates to be released during these days, so I'm sure this will be answered in one of those too.

"Hi, Doris," Tom said. His voice sounded natural enough - to his own ears, at least - but the fingers of his right hand crept to the place where his wedding ring had been until six months ago.
[/QUOTE]

The way you told the story, Tom seems to be an Yuan-ti of sorts - he has to have two right hands, at least, assuming he wore his wedding ring on his right hand, as we all do.

Bohr sums it very well, he cut contact, only post he made on this thread was to come to his site register and discuss there cause apparently this place stink now despite having his very own subforum for years .
Last time i kickstarted something it was copper dreams. Several people wrote posts on gaming forums, especially in foreign languages , i did too cause they seems to be little guys who need help. Day after days you seen the amount of money gathered grow. A loyal fan base certainly help a lot and it was acknowledged by the devs themselves.

Great. I'd like to add that the aspect of "having to be prepared" with camp supplies and stuff sounds really awesome, but if you could just bypass it by abusing quicksaves and such it would be a shame.
Not saying there should be no quicksaving either, but an added challenge to people who'd rather save only in towns etc would be cool

Honestly, the whole "abusing saves" discussion is kinda pointless because by restricting the saving system you just piss people off who want to be able to save anywhere - for valid reasons - and true savescummers who use it as an exploit always find a workaround (Ironman game with only 1 save file that gets overwritten? Save&quit the game before a dangerous encounter, copy the save file somewhere safe, go into the encounter, ctrl-alt-del and exit the game in task manager to prevent the save file from being overwritten, if it has been overwritten or deleted anyway just copy in the copy you made... etc).

I am torn on this topic. You can do this playing hard mode in Mount & Blade but I am less likely to do it if it's more difficult to do. As long as a game is stable than I prefer limited saving to add tension.u opinion as this topic seems very split on people. It's like debating abortion ha

Hi!

wtf! Wtf! WTF!!!

Okay why is development saying this about Codex okay? WTF!!! :argh: Okay, this is biggest place for gaming news and collective interest in games made for rpg and not wanting to post here because you can just ignore them okay?? Be a mustwad and put people on ignore and focus on game posts instead to sell your game already look at kickstart with €44,898 of €100,000 of ecoin already in 4 dasy okay because that is very good I hope it continues and if making rpg do not bite the gamers tha pay you okay by saying this stuff on some other site because crew is always watching and if you walk the plank the sharks will get you so smarten up okay?? Okay! There good thing going right now so stop turning back on passion fans who support game there are lots here and not forget it I am looking for monument maybe it can be a mouse statue or something original but it does not say if they become custom or just a human statue but something to think about when you are running a kickstart but turning hobgoblin back on my friends is not okay!

It's good to see him back answering some questions but let's not rewrite history, they were pretty clear about cutting contact for a while...

Doesn't sound like fun.

... I am looking for monument maybe it can be a mouse statue or something original but it does not say if they become custom or just a human statue but something to think about

You will be able to choose from about 80 different templates (a catalogue with thumbnails), which includes all kind of different statues and monuments from all our cultures. The lore provided by you will be adjusted to our world, so, I fear you can't have a mouse statue, sorry. But, this particular template you choose will be exclusively attached to your "character" (in our campaign, modder can use it for other purposes)

So no major news sites posted about this kickstarter but you contacted them?

Are the artists from Chaos Chronicles on this team? Since a lot of the graphics are from back then.

While the Codex is preoccupied with certain issues, it's left to others to ask the big questions: like apple pie stats and the colonic implications thereof :salute:

Joni Nyman just now
I have to ask, how deep the "imersion" is?
What I mean is: (and this example is 100% made up by my mind, so game might have this quest, or might not, time will tell);

- If I for low level 1 starting adventurer get a simple (or so it seem) mission to take this one apple pie and bottle of sider to guard captain at town gate (an idea to give 20xp, 5 silver piece and some knowlegde for town you start with) and he offer some jobs for you, what later give you option to be part of guards even.
- What if I decide to wait for a week, will I notise that apple pie will lose some of it value (give less let's say HP if you eat it, less money if you sell it) and giving it for guard captain with sider make him pay less and complain a bit how I should have deliver this way earlier.
- What if I decide to wait for a month, will I notise that apple pie change it's stats totally? That now it will make you sick and force you to rush to toilet. If I give it for guard captain now he will give you less money but drop his weapon, shield and rush to toilet letting you rob the house and take weapon + shield?
- What if I decide learn "make poison" crafting and poison cider? Is it possible to deliver pie, get money and XP, then watch while guard captain drink cider and die, get his items (including armor) and head out starting your career as bandit near by town?

Now fastforward for a year:

- If you stick near town for a year will you notise that traveller, guard captain son come by (trip he make once every year) to see his dad. If you are guard / good relations with guard captain he will give you a mission and maybe nice magical weapon as a reward.

- But if you have killed his dad he will hire an assasin to hunt you down, will assist himself wih some other high level NPC's who are his friends and adventure companions.

So what level / kind of imersion we can expect. I assume atleast first is possible (it is kind of standard for every game this far) but how about any of later ones? I would say latest "after a year" kind of thing would be more of Ultima kind of deepness (anyone remember what happen if you find a mouse when one of the games start and decide to kill it.. ..yep, you were not able to EVER play that game through :D )

No, we didn't contact them. As game journalists ( ) , they should be able to find our project easily by themselves.

Some of them, yes.
Err. I hope you are joking, you contacted them right ? It's really hard to know nowadays when people troll, last Kickstarter i seen here barely met his meager goal and their community manager, a codexer, was beyond awful, did nothing right and then lamented the little amount collected.
Now it's time for you to go on reddit and write an AMA " i am a developer working on an indie D20 rpg " ask me anything. Write more on other forums, people wont come magically to you www.bay12forums.com/, http://forum.canardpc.com/, for exemple , plenty of other popular forums, you are nowhere to be seen. You will stagnate at 50k at this rate. If a developer answer them personally , people will back.

Have to post this here too, interesting answers on non-linearity and scaling

TharagavverugCollaboratorabout 2 hours ago
There are going to be several major storylines to go through, all non-linear and offering a large degree of choice to the player. Every region (Cormac, Kvenland, Pyrrhenia, Wildlands, Sabag-Hirar) will have its own main quest, and at the end of each main quest line you will find a piece of information that will tie into a larger, world-spanning plot. You will be able to tackle the different main quests in any order, though, and are not forced to do Cormac first, then Wildlands, then Pyrrhenia etc. We prefer a non-linear approach to story design.

The world features several distinct cultures, each with their own religion, architectural style, clothing, government type etc. The depth of these cultures and how they all have a unique, unmistakeable identity that sets them apart from the others, is what makes the world of Realms Beyond special. We will post updates on the different cultures later during the campaign, so stay tuned for those!

TharagavverugCollaborator15 minutes ago
We don't have any level scaling planned, everything is hand-placed in our game. Of course, there will be a natural progression based on region - the quests in Sabag-Hirar will be overall a little more difficult since it's the last region you're likely to visit, compared to the quests in Cormac which is the region you're starting in. But we don't want to have a world where just due to the order in which you visit the regions, the monsters are weaker or stronger: closer to civilization, you will find less dangerous areas, while deep in the wilderness you will find more dangerous areas. There will be high level dungeons in Cormac, too - the kind of dungeon you remember as being too hard to attempt now, and will return to tackle after you've gained a couple of levels elsewhere.

What the freedom of our structure allows for is that the player can tackle a questline that is above his level range if he wants to. It's going to be a lot more challenging, but you can attempt it anyway. The Wildlands is one of the most dangerous areas of the game, for example, and its main questline involves plenty of hard battles. Attempting it at low levels would be suicide, but if you really want to you can travel there right away after starting the game.

It's kinda like in Morrowind and its expansions: the Bloodmoon expansion adds a whole new island filled with high level enemies, but the player can go there at any point of the game, even at level 1. He's unlikely to survive, but the option is there. In Fallout 1, there are only three things a player has to do: get the water chip, destroy the military base, confront the Master. It's almost impossible to do only these main quests without doing any of the sidequests, because that will leave you severely underleveled, but if you want to go for a speedrun you can try it.

This is the kind of structurally open non-linearity we want to go for. Instead of rigidly forcing the player to do things in a certain order, we allow the player to jump around and tackle the major questlines in the order he sees fit.

It will be a lot of work for us to balance it properly, but we won't implement any kind of level scaling. That's completely out of the question since it ruins the integrity of the game world and kills some of the fun of exploring and leveling up.
