Personally it reminds me of 28 days later more than anything else. Certainly doesn't say Fallout to me, and smells slightly of TEH EPIC!

Maybe it's too irradiated? Maybe there's something there stopping people from living there? Maybe there's some raiders hiding out waiting to kill people? Also, why build shanties when you can just live in the Capitol?

It is certainly possible, though the criticism was more of a general point over style and design that anything about realism or plausibility. I haven't seen any evidence of what was a pretty important setting and art design aspect of the original.

the midwest was the radioactive dustbowl. no mention of the devestation of dc was ever mentioned in the source material. the fact that nature is actually reclaiming the land is a great idea, there's no reason the entire world of 'fallout' has to be brown and only brown.

great picture. sets the mood really well.

Hmm, I don't know.

I think you guys are obsessing too much on everything looking exactly the same. I can see some scenarios that would leave washington somewhat intact such as an anti missile shield, but what's really lame about it that no one has picked up on it seems is just the idea they would even want washington intact. It's probably not going to be ingame, but the idea shows a lot of idiocy...but I know that just because some random (perhaps idiotic) concept artist comes up with something everyone thinks looks cool doesn't mean it has anything to actually do with the game.

The idea of washington being rebuilt is especially idiotic, though. I can see nevada and parts of california being habitable-ish, but the whole eastern seaboard would be pretty much toast....

My 2 cents:

1) The picture looks pretty good. It's much better than the first one.
2) Bethesda clearly stated that they want to do their own version of Fallout, so there is no need to compare every single picture to FO1 as you would be wasting your time and proving the obvious every time.
3) FO3 is not a Fallout game, it's a post-apocalyptic game inspired by Fallout's popularity and bearing its apparently very expensive name. The sooner you realize it the better.

no, it's actually 'fallout 3', the third in the series. nothing more, nothing less.

If you put it this way, it's the fifth game in the series. Nothing more, nothing less.

nope, in so far as the 'post apocalyptic role-playing game' goes, it's number three in the series.

if you want to lie, you can of course. no worries.

It is Fallout 3, not "Fallout 2 2". Not every location of Fallout 3 will be mirrored from every location of Fallout 1/2. I don't think that the levels of destruction, decay, habitation, radiation, etc. of each area are (or should be) exactly in the interval used by the areas of FO1/2. If there's one thing wrong with the latest image is the lack of retro-futuristic elements. But Fallout fans will certainly not be taken seriously if they whine about every little thing they can think of. Bethesda has good artists (tho I don't know which will work on Fallout 3). Don't ask them to put "your vision" above their personal artistic interpretations.

So that's what they'll change "Ourdoorsman" into.

Hell, it's gotta be good, Liam Neeson is doing voice acting...

Actually, my inside source says they are replacing Perlman as the narrator with Mike Meyers and Eddie Murphey. They really listened to the Oblivion critics, and one of the big problems people had (as we all know) was how the voice acting went to shit when Picard died. As my source said "You'll really hear the budget!", and "hearing a famous actor/actress you recognize really makes the game".

Not to try and break up this pitchfork convention, but who said it was nuked? Maybe a civil war of survivors broke out and DC was devastated because of that? Why would DC be a main target? Only thing we have there are a bunch of worthless politicians with no power outside of how our society is built. Crush the society's foundation and voilà. If it were nuked and you've seen pictures of Hiroshima's aftermath you'll know some buildings, trees and light poles can withstand the blast.

Maybe I'm just being, you know, reasonable. Just because we all believe Bethesda will make a mediocre title doesn't mean it should be open season to bash any and all media releases.

"Whoa that Mutant dude Marcus there sounds like Worf!"

Btw, do any of you think that there will be a Vault Dweller, or even Vaults at all?

I mean, Bethesda blacklisted Vault Dweller's Oblivion review, and the Codex, and having a Vault Dweller in FO3 might make people find the Codex by searching for VD in google

Now that would be irony.

Are you all trying to reach the stupidity levels of ESF? Really, at the moment, you're just as bad, if not worse.
Even NMA is more reasonable, and that's pretty dire.
I can't even hate the moronic ESFers anymore knowing that you fuckers are on the other side.

Actually ditching the vault dweller idea would be the best thing possible.

And ditching the supermutants.

And ditching the ghouls.

Fallout 2's biggest mistake was this lame and nonsensical continuation of these elements.

But instead they will likely go in the opposite direction and try to make it even more fallouty.

We now have some kind of super vault not mentioned in the other games, or the key to the survival of all the vaults, or some damned idiotic thing....

Agreed, to a point. If they're incorporated through a logical story, then fine. Just don't inject them into the game with some half assed explanation. The United States is huge. Large enough that the different regions would most certainly be cut off from each other, being entirely different culturally (not like they aren't now). I'd like to see what happened in the other portions of the nation in the aftermath. Also, this'll almost guarantee that they can't completely rape the canon, like was done with TES's last go round.

Yes. Except the ghouls. Ghouls are fine.

Really, I'd rather have a Chernobyl/Detroit slum "reclaimed by nature" PA motif than worn out Mad Max "everything's fucking desert now" style. I'd be pretty impressed if new Bethesda could actually follow through with a unified art design.
