Miracle is from Zeth I think, she visited Helman because ???
I think they mentioned she met Patton in Zeth. So he must have invited her.
Yeah but it's rather out of character for her to support revolutionary effort just like that, doesn't she have any agenda in Helman? Honestly can't say I've noticed her suggest at anything of the sort and I'm close to the game finale

I still have to play her route, but judging from her behavior, she is a very nice and helpful person behind that stupid persona. So she would come just to help Patton, while making up some story about world conquest.

My heart swells with pride when I look at that Codex top JRPGs list and I see a Rance game topping it.

I've still never actually played one, I just love how completely anti-normie that choice is.

I think she sees it as valuable practice for her own world conquest, and having the future ruler of the largest country in your debt is a pretty good move in general. Plus Patton is one of the twelve knights so she needs to spend time with him to recruit him anyway :M

She does also just like helping her friends.

I've still never actually played one
You should. I recommend to start with Sengoku.

I'm displeased to share that earlier this evening I learned that some of the heroine routes are more difficult than others :/
I freely admit I used cheat engine on Sheilas route, because when I ran out of special move uses I could not fit enough attackers around the boss to outrace the healing, so the fight stalled out at like 30% boss hp. I might have been able to do it if I had played really well and redone all my item equips, but I really didn't feel like it.

I had 0 issues with all the rest though.
Yup I was referring to Valentine, although after checking message boards to see whether she was a gimmick fight or a stat check fight (with Alicesoft either is possible), I went back, maxed damage on Rance/ Rick/ Tilde/ Rolex/ Senhime and all the ranged attackers, and slowly grinded her down to 0. It also turns out that she starts with a random # of hp, so first time she had 4600 hp and was healing 900/ turn and second time she had 3600 hp and was only healing 720/ turn and that was a huge difference (very atypical for an Alicesoft boss to have randomized stats like that and a bit unfair). She wasn't hard, per se, I just wasn't expecting such a difficulty spike for Sheila's route and also for the tactic to be so linear. She's sort of a poor man's Orochi fight.

Of the heroine routes, the toughest and most brutal (and fun) was Minerva in Senhime's route. Got murdered a few times, tried a few different tactics and eventually beat her with only Rance and Senhime still alive and Minerva passed her tenacity check like 10 times before she croaked. Very cool to have these very different and creative variations of the Minerva fight. If nothing else, the game's fights have well-tuned difficulty.

How to make a fight hard: you only get 5 characters and two of them are Kanami and Patton :D

Wow. For me Valentine spawned with 5400 hp, so was regening 1080 per turn. Even with 5 damage focused melee characters, and all the ranged ones blasting away, I could make 0 progress. I even did various "smart" things like cycling warriors with store power for an extra 50% damage. After like 20 turns, having used up all my specials, and having the boss repeatedly refuse to move when aggored (so as to open more slots), but pingponging between 2000 and 3000 hp I just opened cheat engine.

Oh well.

I just checked TADA's blog and he put out a 2.05 patch for Rance 6 last month. Can someone translate the changes and whether its compatible with Mangagamer English version?
Modified points of Lance 6.ver2.05 Experience value doubled, adventure achievements doubled Encounter rate about 1/2 Changed mapping process From mapping only the current location to mapping adjacent locations at the same time Weapon eggs and armor eggs Weapon eggs and armor eggs obtained from adventure achievements will be mapped at the same time. Adjusted so that having 3 or more low-ranked eggs will result in a higher rank. Lowering the probability of bad luck and big bad luck in Copandong and Luck Test (favoritism this time). Reduced the price of gifts after clearing the game, 30,000 > 5,000 Bullet Tower, combat escaping from Guardian, to end with time up even after 2 turns Calculator labyrinth, some bugs fixed Moheka's Hall (after clearing), monsters on the way are no longer generated once defeated Other - Fixed some minor bugs. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
So: double xp, halved combat, faster mapping, more orbs.
Sounds like good changes, I remember the combat and mapping being pretty tedious, especially towards the second half.
Chance of compatibility with english version is probably around 0%, as the english file is 2MB larger than TADAs patch file.

I guess if the coder MG has (toufu guy?) feels like copying the changes in his free time, you might get it. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

Even Rance isn't save from modern day casualization of games.

Dunno man map-hugging especially is much less of a bother with this patch since you had to cover singular squares at the time for adventure achievements while at the same time pelted by random encounters at the rate which puts zubats from pokemon to shame, only in rance vi there's the deployment limit mechanic making you run out of combatants sooner or later - the gamble whom to field to be able to still leave the map upon reaching objectives was pretty fun but I'd argue it runs out of being fun (insect-user village is a major offender)

I played a bit with the VI patch.

On the plus side, less grind is great. I remember the gameplaying starting to grate about halfway through the first time I played it, so halving the encounters probably means it won't be as annoying as it was (although still not that fun for a lot of it). The mapping change is also great, needing to traverse literally every tile was a major pain.

Otoh, halving encounters means that the fatigue system becomes toothless, and that was the one good thing about VI's gameplay. I remember that the first time through I had to try fairly hard to optimize fatigue to beat the bandits in the forest. In the patched version I just did it in one go with plenty stamina to spare.

So it's a bit tricky to recommend. You'll spare yourself some annoyance and grinding, but you'll also miss out on seeing the cool parts.

I'm playing through Rance IX, but because I'm recording it as a let's play for YouTube, the progress has been slow. I'm only on chapter 8.

So far, the game's pretty fun. It'd definitely be nice to see more characterization for Helman in general, and in various parts, I can't help but feel like Kichikuou managed to say more with less. But that's a consistent issue of comparing Rance 6-9 with Kichikuou (the superior Rance game).

But the cast is great, I love all the bros, and the girl selection is solid. Even if Russian is basically just a Sill palette swap.

Dems fighting words sonny.

I should probably try to slog through kichikuou at some point, but every time I try I can't help but think "wait, why aren't I playing sengoku instead?".

Sengoku has better gameplay, and you absolutely shouldn't play Kichikou unless you've already played 1-4. But Kichikuou gets so many things right and has such strong and concise writing that it's my favorite Rance game still. Even though Sengoku is probably a better game in an "objective" sense.
