I finally finished all Rance X endings clocked 280h great game, but I'm still missing a lot of things from the collection it's insane how much stuff is in this game.
Looks like you literally haven't touched after mode. It lets you fight bosses/gauntlets of varying difficulty (you'll probably mow through all of it first try now though, perhaps hornet fight will give you trouble, but I doubt it). Some of them are pretty cool. I especially liked the one where you have to do 10 combats in a row, and each character can only be used in one fight. Meant I had to think a bit about team compositions. Wish the base game had more of that.

As for 100% cheevos, forget about it, you'd have to play part 2 fully at least 3 times. That seems like pure torture.

There is a partial (like 95% or so) interface patch for 10. I think there is something for 9 as well, I recall someone mentioning it around the games release. No idea where it is though, the X one can be found in the playground thread, towards the end.

I think Part 2 is more fun on Hard
Huh, I forgot part 2 even had NG+ bonuses. What does more characters in treasure chests even do in part 2? The drops from enemies were basically 100% pointless as I recall, and chests all had fixed drops.

If you recommend it, I might try it. I ""need"" to play it once more for CG completion anyway...

I'm waiting for English translation though.

There are a lot of Part 2 only cards that you can only get with the random cards bonus, like K-k-kamilla.

If you've already played it on hard then surely you already have the cg!

Speaking of the english translation:
"I did a very rough estimate and the count so far in the English translation is sitting around 1,113,310 words. So we're about two "War and Peace"-es in so far."
(The full untranslated text is apparently ~4 million moji)
The really interesting question though is how much of that is meal tickets and character bios.

Is there a way how to get old Sengoku Rance fan translation text to official version? I kinda liked the old translation better, it felt charming.

No and I'm not sure why you would bother instead of just playing the old translation version. It's the same gameplay.

It's not worth playing if you can't follow the story.
Finally a porn that you get into for the story.
Rance X has hilariously unsexy H-Scenes, and it feels like the majority of them involve Meganekko fetishes :D

The mangagamer version polished up a lot of minor technical/interface stuff. It's slightly superior in terms of gameplay because of that.

There is however a terminology restoration patch https://mega.nz/file/pYozTCTD#FPcpL0vDBHxcDMKQu9bLs6tabLxLbJDbmk6CwmitsIg in case you prefer fiend over dark lord, etc.

You can probably find the original japanese version and original fan translation patch if you trawl wiki histories and so on...

So I did get Waswald in Rance X, decided fuck it, I'll try 5D again.

And somehow I am now stuck in a battle I can't win? Felt like I was sleeping through the game but then suddenly there's an unskippable midboss with an archer galmon that one or two shots my characters. There's not even interactivity in the combat, how the hell am I supposed to influence the outcome?

I think this game escapes being the worst Rance gameplay solely from the fact that it is at least bad in an original way...

I managed to get past it by reverting to last permasave (scene replay my ass), hitting an alicesoft event to pick up a monster girl and then rolling well (first try after revert). Just one chapter left, so I guess as soon as I work up the strength I'll finish the game and post my impressions.

So yeah, I just finished 5D.

I'll give the gameplay some points for trying to be original, and then immediately subtract a billion points for being bad. You spin a wheel to determine which event you get, with a massive selection of: random loot, random combat, random trap, plot progression, random side story* and a few other random things. Then the combat consists of the game randomly selecting everyones moves (and targets?), until one side is dead. So the interactivity is slim to none, and despite this the game thinks it's a good idea to be hard, making it really easy to get stuck in the latter half and have to redo a battle a bunch of times hoping for good RNG. The combat also behavies a bit nondeterministically when you hold the skip key: it will sometimes seemingly skip forward a lot, and sometimes not at all for the first second. And hold the skip key you should, because what's the point of looking at this boring thing with literally 0 interactivity. I got 713 score, whatever that means. At least you get 100% CG by default? Or maybe that's bad, because it means I've technically completed more of this game than any other Rance title?

My favorite soundtrack was Castle Town. There's not enough to say about this game, so I hope you enjoy the intermission.

Storywise, it's just a bit too short, too simple, and none of the characters really get any chance to shine. Rizna and Copandon are important to the setting going forward, but they're both in the game for a really short while and none of the events really inform their characters, and in some ways I think it kinda made them worse... Like, copandon goes crazy for Rance even though he's a major hassle just cause the divination says he has good luck? And Rizna goes from determinately trying to not be a moron, to just being a moron for the rest of the series, after showing she can cast disbelieve if she tries...

Final verdict: I think 5D should be skipped. For all other Rance games I am willing to entertain the notion that they are critical to the overall series, even if some are more critical than others, but not this one: The events mean nothing and the new characters are better introduced via VI. I can sort of see how this game might have been important when it was the relaunch of the series, including some re-imagining of the characters and the setting, but with 01, 02 and 03 existing, it does not even have that niche to fill.

*I'm a bit upset I only got to 2nd moe event in kuropiston story.

There was 13. 5 remain.

...

Again, you're supposed to set up your table to counter the enemies' rolls.

Second, the game has a ton of Easter Eggs as well as a Hard mode. I feel like most people miss out on the hidden stuff by following the walkthrough on the Alicesoft wiki.

The game doesn't say you can do this, MG didn't translate the manual, and by the time I figured it out I had deleted most of my defensive moves. It's also kind of bullshit, because you can only counter the enemy table once you've already died once. And for the actually hard fights there were too many deadly moves anyway, I needed to get lucky on rolling my good attacks, and those are limited. Trololo death girl instakill attack that also works on bosses!

Yes, because playing a super RNG heavy game with no saving sure sounds like fun.

I did look at the walkthrough a few times because some of the "puzzles" were super obtuse and seemingly rely on doing enough random stuff until Rance decides he'll go for a solution he doesn't like. Also it's timed, so the game actively punishes doing random stuff too many times.
Possibly true because with a VPN browser I can find the game on GOG too.
I remember when GoG used to be against this kind of stuff. They don't even say which countries are blocking it and why...

It's light strategy. You basically set things up to counter a group of enemies' or a boss's special moves (for example, if they have a big attack on '5' you set up Rance to Defend and Sill to heal, etc...). But iirc you also use it to control which skills Athena learns from enemies (and lets her learn several moves by rotating them).
Also, it seems like you trashed your defensive moves since you felt like they were pointless, and you had no faith that 5D was actually a competently made rpg:/

None of the Rance games, besides Rance Quest I guess, are well-documented in game. The real issue is that 5D is poorly documented on the Alicesoft wiki. But that's also a big reason I like it, it has mysteries and easter eggs to discover.

That's why you have the number bugs that manipulate the dice rolls in your favor.

I mean, The real reason I deleted them is because I believe in MAXIMUM OFFENCE. But I did keep one defensive move per character, it just isn't enough when the enemy has 2 instakill moves, and 4 3-shot moves. The only solution is MORE DAMAGE. I did notice Athena could copy skills from enemies, but I didn't notice moving skills around until it was "too late", so it was not a lot of use.

As for documentation in game... maybe? I think the other games are better about making it clear which gui elements are intractable. There really is no indication the order of skills can be changed. Not sure if this is a game flaw, or if it is mentioned in the jap manual (I can't find a copy online). They are "learn by doing" type games though, that's for sure.

I think the other rance games do a better job of slowly ramping up the difficulty, and showing you the difficulty is ramping up, so you have time to react. And you know, having deterministic plot progression and without hard time limits (except for X, but losing is a legitimate ending there). I did notice it was getting "rough" in chapter 3, but the game also gave me a temporary "cheat" character in that chapter, so I didn't expect that the next chapter would leave me with just rance and rizna while being even harder.

None of the games document their actual formulas and mechanics, but that's par for the course for vidya, unfortunately. Clicking around in the GUI now, I even notice you can change Rance's class to a mage (not sure I like this, feels like it breaks the lore). And you know, if you want someone to click around randomly in the gui, maybe don't start the game by teaching them every click consumes precious game time and moves them closer to a game over? I'm not going to feel keen on experimenting after that.

That's why you have the number bugs that manipulate the dice rolls in your favor.
Which there's no guarantee you'll even see, let alone pick since there's no item description until after you pick it up (I did get the 1-bug, so I put all my best moves there).

I did not remember this, it was months ago! But yes, you told me, and I didn't listen.

Don't worry, Alicesoft hated it too. They pretend that was never a thing that happened and don't reference it in any way.
