Yeah, the "4k" standard is much larger though apparently, like pixels are almost too small to even see. If it is becoming a standard by the time PE is released, there is going to be a readjustment of what people consider "sharp" just like there was going from 640x480 to where we are now, or from standard American television to HDTV.

4k isn't a problem because it's exactly twice 1080p, which means you can do 1>4 scaling and not have any blurriness.

That's not really a solution; few people actually enjoy playing these games in "RTS mode". cherry blossom makes a good point though - Obsidian can regenerate higher definition versions of their graphics in the future, as long as they don't do something dumb like lose the original sources.

I don't know what you mean by RTS mode, but you set an LCD to exactly half it's native resolution there is no blurriness. A 24" monitor at 1920x1080p looks the same regardless of if it's native resolution is 1920x1080 or 3840x2160.

RTS mode = tiny characters. Ever played Baldur's Gate at ultra-high resolutions?

So you are saying you get crisp upscaling, right? But not the kind of fidelity you would get if the assets were made for 3840x2160.

I think you're mis-understanding.

If you have an LCD who's native resolution is 1600x1200, you can run BG2 at 800x600 and it looks normal. You can scale 1->4 without any loss of detail or sharpness. So at 4k, the 1080p images will look exactly what they look like on a 1080p monitor. The problem will be for anyone between 1080p to 4k.

Yes, if the resolution is exactly double, you're fine.

Oh I see what you mean. Okay, but we want to enjoy higher fidelity too. :M
