Inappropriate how? You don't like boobs any more? Did your trip to KWA change you that much? :smug:

Anyway, OP followup: after a 2nd playthrough and after playing other games, and after reading the news about the expansion, my vote is confirmed to be "negative". The game is just unredeemable, and in fact the more I think of it, and of its shortcomings, the more I find it loathesome...
While you're at it, why don't you do a 3rd playthrough just to be completely sure?

Don't tempt me.

Just kidding, I can't really see myself playing the game ever again.

Like restaurants, games should often be given a 2nd chance, too. And well, I really wanted, badly, to give PoE a 2nd chance to impress me, I figured maybe a change of class/party, the patches, different choices, added to a deeper knowledge of the game's systems and background might have allowed me to appreciate it more. Actually didn't happen, and I ended up rushing it badly, skipping most non-mandatory content just to reach the end and be done with it.

Overall impression I have gotten about is ambivalent, sliding towards the negative. Not as bad as NWN2 (though its Stronghold is/was much better recieved), but certainly not as *special* as most other Obsidian games.

There is something though I have to say. And its the biggest fucking disappointment about PoE and the codex.

BOTH FANBOYS AND HATERS OF THIS GAME ARE FUCKING BORING

Shitty arguments, shitty snarkiness, shitty humor all around. Two of the most boring reviews there are (Darth Roxxor's had some merit, but even that doesn't remotly compare to the codex's greats. Decado's was just utter shit) and a whole bunch of other fuckery.

And hey, the beta reception and parts of the development time were actually promising in terms of arguments made. For a moment I actually thought *Hey, however this game turns out, at least the codex is going to incline again* But, no. Not happening.

These subforums and especially the reception here just shows how much the codex has :decline:d over the years. Kickstarter was just decline trying to lure us in.

I look at you codex, and the only thing I can say is

Overall positive... because I'm 2015 newfag.

Obsidian creates games which are a "good start". KotOR 2 was a good start to introduce some more serious and less b-movie approach to Star Wars setting. FNV was a "good start" to implement proper role-playing in open-world model. AP was a "good start" to add role-playing to shooters.
PoE is a "good start" to revive dead to mainstram, isometric cRPGs with solid combat and role-playing capabilities.
(SotT and NWN2 are aberrations and I'm not willing to discuss any of those)

Too bad usually there is nothing more after such a good start, especially when those guys should know how to make games already, I mean... they did once, right?
Maybe I'm stupid, but I'm still hoping. I choose to be positive.

It's ambivalent.

It's very pretty, it has the time accel/slow mechanic. The overall plot is ok.

The "per encounter abilities" make the late game combat a "to do list" of buttons to press, with very little tactical depth, making it boring (I'd rather watch them auto attack at some point).

The excessive use of flourishes in narrative descriptions, obscures the messages in the text, increasing a TL;DR sensation in my stomach, which in turn forces me to cast skip.

The stronghold and crafting/gathering felt like an afterthought, so I'd rather not have them at all. But I'm not a fan of crafting in any game tbh.

The ruleset is not very intuitive.

The loading/saving times made me take a few breaks from the gaming sessions earlier than I was planning to do...

It's not overall negative though, because if you would improve the loading times and streamline the combat and dialogues a bit, this has the potential to create the greatest rpg to grace our computers in a long, long time (imho). I'd like to see them do a more IWD approach with this engine.

Really like it. I'm on my 2nd play with a monk. The story and setting are very interesting and they are indeed inspired by PS:T. The graphics reminds me of Sanitarium. That's how good they are.

Positive. I might get burned by hoping way too big improvements from the expansion/patches/poe2 but i really like the mechanical basis and many other things in this game. Current version feels very mediocre compared to what it could be with a lot of small changes.

Everything seems rushed, messy and poorly balanced, but the changes that have happened and especially the ones promised in expansion make me very hopeful. I dont expect BG1 to BG2 size leap but im exited about the future since i enjoyed pillars a lot even with its countless flaws.
