When I was a kid I didn't know what a legal copy of a game looked like. Now I can afford games, so I don't really need piracy, maybe If I wanted to play every new game that comes out, but I rarely play shitty games and I don't have the time to stay in the basement 24/7 anyway. If it's too expensive I can wait till the price drops, there's no rush.
I still pirate games sometimes though. If a game is somewhat difficult to buy in my country, then I'll download it. Also, I sometimes play big AAA games out of morbid curiosity and for some kind of masochistic guilty pleasure, I don't buy them. Fuck these big companies. I'm not trying to get on some moral high horse, like I'm figting the decline, "voting with my wallet" etc. I know it doesn't affect shit, but still makes me feel better that my money doesn't end up in some Kottick-esque fucker's pocket.

I bought a lot of games in the glorious 90s, and up to the point of decline in 2005, hundreds and thousands of Deutschmark went to support good games, and it didn't stop the decline.
Hence everything said in this thread is moot and everyone can pirate or not pirate, it will not change a damn thing.

I don't see much of a decline in the industry, only the major studios/pub's as there is variety. Only brought the thread up to show people that their are full of shit when they say that piracy is caused by industry practices and they believe they are some how fighting back by pirating.

Honestly if you live outside the U.S and Western Europe I am surprised when people buy games at all and not pirate as I heard you don't really have much a choice in either purchasing a title or pirating if certain pub's like 1C monopolizes the region. I used to also care about giving triple A studios/pub's money until I realized that it really doesn't matter since there are worse companies in other industries that people inevitably give monies too so don't really understand the morality of not giving money to pub's.
