Yeah people, keep protesting against competition. Because Facebook and Google taught us it is good when a single company controls everything.

The devs themselves stated this in their reddit AMA and on Discord, apparently.Unreliable sources have told me that what epic is offering is a minimum sales guarantee. So for example they get paid $1,000,000 no matter how many copies they sell. However, if they sell more than the million, epic takes its million back and then goes back to its normal 12% cut. It's basically an insurance deal. Don't take this for gospel but it definitely makes sense to me.
This sentence just seals that OP to perfection. Laughed my ass off, thanksTruly gets the noggin joggin'!
I'm heavily conflicted between caving in, bending over and letting this dev and Epic know that they can get away with strong-arming customers into doing things they don't want OR just browsing Pirate Bay or some shit. This game will probably get me to use the Epic store
So... the devs were offered a lot of money and they took it. This sounds vaguely familiar. When people are offered a lot of money... I feel there is a pattern in there somewhere, I just can't quite put my finger on it.
EGS in its current form is in no way competition to Steam - no user reviews, no returns and shit security.
I wonder how much Epic are paying developers to do this? I mean you must have to anticipate losing something like 70% of your sales.

So basically they take all the Backers money to develop and create the game, then Epic pays them an equal amount so they can give a giant middle finger to everyone that MADE THE GAME POSSIBLE: "We dont even need your silly nostalgia monies now, Hyuck Hyuck Hyuck!"
Well fuck you Gollop!! Another one of my childhood heroes laid low...
I am so disgusted I dont even know if I will pirate it.
What options have I got?
A) give the Chinese government money
B) pirate the game
C) wait a year
Not really a list of fantastic choices

Not offered, theybeggedasked for it.

I fucking laughed considering Valve is the most hands off and curator-free Digital Platform owner there is out there. Making this argument when the likes of Epic, GOG and other stores are the ones not allowing games on their platform for whatever reason is amazing. If they decide to blacklist you, for whatever reason, you have no way to make a profit.
Yeah, on the surface. In reality, the end-user price remains the same, so the only thing that changes is Epic Store and dev profits, which I honestly do not give a fuck about. And having a platform that provides much lower dev fees is a very good thing.
