I mean, where are guys like Kheldorn, Anomen, Durance, Harrim, Valerie, Aribeth and so forth? Nobody wants to fight demons for religious reasons or to help people? You could switch the cast of characters with any party-based RPG at random and the companions would fit the game better.
What if that is the point? Zealots lost 4 crusades and are losing the 5th, so may be the bunch of misfits will actually help? It might be the modern agenda of Paizo writers, but it seems to be working.

You can actually bypass the entire Tavern Defense shit and you end up getting more XP and rewards for it. I managed to do it by just going from one quest to another and only resting twice. Both times when I rested I just ran back to the tavern since resting on the world map or in another area takes up a lot of time so it's faster to just double back to the tavern and rest there.

Okay, I've had it with these companions. Tell me, Codex, which classes complement the Swarm? Do you have to be a caster to get the most out of it?
Unfortunately Swarm is a late game path so you won't be able to access it for a good chunk of the game. Alternatively you can go Lich which gives you unique companions who keep their mouths shut and don't interject with some shitty reddit dialogue every time you talk to someone.

I only rested twice (9h each) and I still got intercepted by the messenger when I was done with like half the areas.

Yeah, currently my mage is just a greasy grease flinger. I know he will get better, but say in BG a low level mage gets carried by others, here I feel the other party members just suck. The only semi-reliable one is the black female paladin, but one crit and she is history too.

This is why I suggest hiring mercs. I have a druid with a triceratops and a kineticist as companions. Kineticists even on low level aren't bad. And when you get the lich path, you get a skeleton pet. My pet has almost 40 AC without any buff.

He is wrong. Very wrong. That(the brothel) is the LEAST degrading "romance" option.

Pick a prepared caster. Spontaneous ones get their spells 1 lv later.
For the full arcane book, pick Spell Master. It is impossible to fuck yourselves up with this one. No bad school/spell picks. The better bond. A power surge just when you need it. It is comparatively powerful around lv 5, i.e. before first mythic rank. And it isn't even bad later on. It has more slots than a Thassi specialist in the highest spell lvs you can cast, and way more freedom.

Why are the bad guys just telling you their plans? I love this Scooby Doo shit writing. This is almost as bad as Diablo 3's writing. The only thing left to do is read Dear Diary messages from the lords of Hell.
That's called EXPOSITON. It's important clue for books and movies because otherwise a person who is reading them, or watching them will not have any clue what's happening.

Go back ~20 years and you would think it was a solved problem in video games.
20 years ago, games were made by people who liked complex stories and were making games they wanted to play. I suspect current generation can't even pirate books properly.

Did you go out of your way to visit all the areas on the map? I only did the plot relevant areas and was able to take a second rest without the messenger coming up to me.

This whole game makes me ask myself 1 question: Would I have wanted all the SJWisms in the 1st chapter and then slowly going towards nothing, or have the first 5 chapters cool, and the last 1 full of it?
Jornos never play past the tutorial, so all progressive agenda has to be presented from the start. Otherwise, it is pointless to have it in game.

Oh, this is delightful.

I got locked into a forced "random" encounter that introduces a companion (Jesus fucking Christ, the writing in this game is going to kill me).

So my front liners are both at 3hp, I have no healing, practically no buffs and nothing to debuff the cultists. The future "companion" doesn't fight. If I re-load early enough to actually have resources, I'm losing two hours of playtime.

I end up executing a Benny Hill routine with my archer running away from two remaining enemies that somehow ignore my near dead tank and proceed to get AOOed to death.

I'd normally call this shitty game design, but if I had fun figuring out a way out that particular shit creek, can I still complain?

It is a --baffling-- oversight, especially stealth. The fact that a mod had to be made with Unity Mod Manager to enable a stealth hotkey and they STILL don't have one in the 2nd game. Does. Not. Compute.
Why do you need stealth in this game? This is not Pillars of Eternity.

Daeran spends most of his time partying but he's also an oracle? Do these words mean anything anymore?
Oracles in this setting are given powers and cursed at the same time involuntarily and often without a real clue why. Considering his curse, it is easy to see his hedonism as a coping mechanism.
I don't even play the game but the character pretty much writes himself.

I don't like the writing. I'm not even talking about sjw style stuff. Stylistically it's an overly wordy, silly style of modern writing that is obnoxious to read and listen to. Give me the old school pretend-medieval patois, anything really except this style. Good writing is simpler and more straightforward and allows for a greater sense of adventure. It gives the plot more room to breathe and simplifies the characters, making them more relatable. I dont care about my companions way-too-long and detailed life stories.

Currently trying to sweep all the Tac Battles on the Chapter 2 Overmap before assaulting Drezen. A general with Scorching Ray and a growing Doomstack of Hellknights is working well against almost everything.

Clearly you have very little understanding of the combat rules in this game. Sneak attack damage multipliers, critical hits deep into the double digits on almost every opening volley from a ranged crit build character, tossing an 'opening fireball' or other AOE softener, and probably most importantly you get a 'Surprise Round' before the real combat even starts allowing free unanswered shots from your entire group. If you are playing on Story Mode or Normal then ignore all of the above and just derp faceroll everything. So yeah, probably not as useful as POE...:?

I'm just running around, clicking on named people, including party members "any quests?" "how much are you willing to pay?" and avoiding any personal discussion.
There is some fag sitting in the cell. I ain't clicking dis shit.

It's amazing how badly the writing has gone down to the toilet compared to Kingmaker, the writing in Kingmaker wasn't stellar, but at least it was to the point, concise and the writers seemed to know how to get stuff through with using limited amount of sentences. Either they got rid of the writers after Kingmaker or their brains rotted away and they threw all the restraint out of the window given how much of the writing is just walls of text.
