I can imagine myself playing Path of Exile 2 for hundreds of hours just fine. It's engaging gameplay. It's these people who I think are fucking nuts.

I'd be incredibly disappointed if PoE2 is anything close to this. Please contain this retarded gameplay to PoE1, it's for millennials with brainrot who might aswell gamble instead.

Realistically it will be probably good for 5 years just like POE1 was until it will snowball into POE1s retardness.

having to chase after a boss that moves around
i rage quited during one of my ruthless runs when I had to chase necromancers in prison. They move constantly while their peers keep summoning
The one that always drives me up the wall is that one early unique map boss with the shield that runs away from you. First encountered it with a whispering ice mines build. That... that was suffering.
That's intentional. The fan who designed it specifically requested it be a horrible time.

I stopped bothering doing that unique map.

The skills trees in PoE can be slightly simplified if you look at "builds" as wanting specific key nodes from the skill tree, and most of them do. Then it's about the routes you take to get to them. Basically, just grab the most useful stuff for your build along the way to those specific key nodes. Quests will probably award you some respec points in PoE2, and you'll probably have something like orbs of regret, and as long as you don't goof bigly, the cost shouldn't be too much to make adjustments on the fly. Dual spec does change things a bit, but the same should hold true as far as shooting for specific key nodes, such as branching off your main route to grab a key node for your 2nd spec, etc. Of course, it's impossible to know going into PoE2 the impact of build defining unique items, that's information you'll have to adjust for at a later date.
We know gold will be used to respec in PoE2. Also you will get extra points to use for your alt weapon skills.

the early access will only have the first 3 acts, not the whole game.

source is this japanese interview: https://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/preview/1627332.html

here is a nigga explaining everything in video form:

I expect GGG to make some official statement about this soon.

Personally for PoE2's sake I'd rather they take their sweet time, because everything I've seen so far indicates that they bit off way more than they can chew with this project and it's shaky as fuck.
Unfortunately that would also mean a much longer period of developer attention diverted away from PoE1, but who are we kidding, they'll abandon PoE1 even harder once PoE2 goes into full service.

I hope it is not true. I might buy D4 expansion instead of PoE2 closed beta access if true.. for sure I am not going to waste money for more unfinished stuff.

It's pretty likely there won't be a fee for the access this time, as they are trying to attract the non-poe1 audience

The fact that they completely walked back some major design points (flask charges, several aspects of gems) in the time since not only Exilecon last year, but even the previews earlier this year, is a pretty good indication that they have no idea what they are doing and the game is nowhere near being finished.
I'm still wondering what Chris is doing.

In about a month from now, we'll be doing a livestream that covers all the content of Early Access for Path of Exile 2, and how you'll be able to gain access.

We won't reveal too much just yet, but we'd like to clarify that just like Fall of Oriath, entry to Early Access will be gained by purchasing one of the new Supporter Packs containing a key. These new Supporter Packs will be revealed during the livestream. Players that meet a threshold of lifetime support in Path of Exile 1 will also be invited to participate in Early Access without needing to purchase a key.

We can't wait to tell you all about Early Access soon!

nvm, it's paid access after all

with how much they've been changing things around, it wouldn't surprise me if the "3 acts + endgame" gets overturned in a month again.

I like the slower pace they are trying to introduce. Hopefully they keep it up and don't get tempted to make it zoom zoom like 1. I don't see a reason for them to make it like 1 because afaik they'll continue development of 1 too.

You should have been supporting D4 over Path of AIDS from the beginning. It's always been better.

I've already played poe2, found a sikrit portal in the current SSF league

Thoughtful and slower paced gameplay doesn't mean low reward or unreasonably big maps compared to the movement speed. Even then, I fear the early game everyone has been seeing and playing isn't indicative of the rest of the game. Even if they somehow manage to summon the self control to make the entire game harder and slower paced, that will only last for 2 seasons tops. The temptation to go zoom zoom the moment PoE1 fans start crying collectively will be great.

Eh then what's the point of making a new game? Zoom2 retards should stay in 1 and GGG should keep making seasons for it and another 10 convoluted way to craft bullshits so PoE 1 player can keep their game

The point is to earn even more money so Chris can buy himself a yacht

making 2.of the same game is anti thesis of that

if they make 2 the same.game as 1 they will just move between games, not making a new potential custom

We'll see, but if you listen to some of the latest Jonathan interviews, they've already had to roll back on some of the ruthless like changes they initiially pushed on (like flasks not getting charges while not in town, meaningless support gems etc) - looks like they've realised they've strayed away from the core audience too far in an attempt to expand TAM and include souls-drones that play the game once for plot or something.

Don't worry, we will, especially considering that it seems that this launch would be alpha-grade at the very least. It looks like 1 year+ of dev time is needed to get the game to the level of 2.0/3.0 poe1.

Initially they've said they'd just update the engine and revamp some systems while keeping everything in place which later morphed into what poe2 is purportedly now. Actually, it's a better thing for us, as we zoom-zoom crowd can keep whirling away while you 'explore' maps at leisurely 50% movement speed (like in this joke Valdo map that I've walked through in my video)

Even if the endgame were 5x faster than what we've seen, you'd still have the ability momentum and see your attack animations instead of seeing your character spazzing out.

Combat would still be engaging and you wouldn't be teleporting around faster than your brain can register wtf is going on. PoE2 can be faster without getting ridiculous. Which is what Jonathan Rogers has been consistent about this whole time.
