Well I was gifted this so I guess I am playing it some more (I truly wonder how many games I consider "bad" I would have played if it wasn't for friends).

I am starting to see Blizz's design logic with this game since I played recently with some less hardcore players. Its the shooter game you can play with people who don't like shooters (even more so than TF2 perhaps).

Basically all the static characters have very low skill caps but flankers have the largest impact on the game. This revelation came after we played with someone's girlfriend who literally only played Solitaire and Candy Crush. We told her to sit on the payload with Rein, just generally keep the shield up and she didn't drag us down in anyway. But at the same time the decisive points of the match were decided by me and my friend playing Genji and Tracer. Cleaning up Bastion, Widowmaker and Mercy paved the way to victory. Everybody had fun.

Plus I think the accusations of "casualness" in regards to the offensive heroes is flat out wrong. You can immediately tell the bad apart from the good. A Genji that hits you once in a flurry compared to one that hits you all 3 times in the head is a world of difference.

My only real "grognard" gripe is the ultimates. They come out too many times per match and are too decisive compared to how easy they are to use. Getting killed by the goddamn literally auto aim bot Soldier 76 makes me just want to quit the game.

But the ultimates are so easy to avoid, just break LoS when you hear them being announced, works mosts of the time for the easy ones like Bastion & Soldier 76

Most ultimates are easly avoidable/interruptable. Only ulti I hate is Bastions, not only he packs quite a punch while tank, he also got lots of extra HP/armor.

There are a couple that aren't avoidable like Mei's and Zarya's,if you are in their zone they get you, they can both be very annoying especially if they are used along with another ult or there are a couple of other characters to take you out

Obviously its easy if they jump up in front of you and shout "I GOT YOU IN MY SIGHTS". You don't open with them, you use them as follow up. Roadhog and Winston combo with all of them due to how disruptive their ults are.

I wish I could have saved the highlight where we initiated with Roadhog followed by solider 76 ulti plus mercy damage boost. 5 people died in under 4 seconds, their tank was the only survivor. It was disgusting. I would have been very mad if I was them. It won us the game too. Obviously there are counters but at least once a game you are probably gonna die to some "PRESS Q TO AWESOME" ability.

Speaking of Roadhog, I was playing with one yesterday. In Ilios, he'd stand next to the big well thing. On the indoor part of Nepal he'd stand on the middle part that overlooks cap point. He got a ridiculous amount of environment kills by hooking people into pits. Good times

edit: also, enemy outlines behind walls is stupid and needs to go. it makes it too easy to snipe people.

agree with your entire post. hard to say that the skillcap is low, just that the average playerbase is a retard 13 yr old blizzdrone with no FPS experience. That's fine by me though; I enjoy demolishing teams as widowmaker/mccree.

ultimates should take 50% more time to charge. some ults are just too spammable, like hanzos dragon shit. all he needs to do is chuck arrows through a chokepoint and he gets to ult once every minute. i don't think ults should charge passively either.

It doesn't help that the tutorial in the game is fucking awful. How about instead of explaining how to walk you explain the fucking game mode rules?

Widowmaker's ult is one of the most broken things in the game by the way, it charges very quickly, is the longest lasting despite affecting your entire team with huge advantage, can't be cancelled by enemy killing you and it's nearly impossible to know when the enemy uses it (before getting killed) because of how quiet the voice is. I don't know how the fuck that got through all the betas into the final game in this form. I blame the shitters in the "pro teams" who couldn't beat two Winstons.

patch wishlist:

ultimates no longer charge passively
dying decreases your ult charge by 30%
overtime should not trigger if the point is not contested
enemy outlines removed
faster weapon switch on characters with multiple weapons (mercy, tobjorn, reinhardt, symmetra)
widowmaker ult cancels when killed

The matchmaking fucking sucks by the way. 10 hours of playing (50 games) in and I end up with a team where I do the most damage as Reinhardt.

It depends on how big a group you queue as. A 4-man + 2 randoms vs 6 randoms has a huge advantage. When I'm solo queued with other randoms, most matches end with less than 30 seconds on the clock.

Matchmaking should get better once rated comes out next month for the tryhards.

In the game I mentioned I'm pretty sure I had a group of 4 people in my team because they all left at the same time after we lost. It's a great way to see if your team is full of idiots, pick Reinhardt on offense and see how many people stand behind your shield.

If you get a group matched against all solo teams then the matchmaking is even worse than I thought. And they have the fucking audacity to give groups an XP bonus.
