I pity the cretins who will shell out not only $60 or whatever to buy this game, but $15 multiple times after that to pay for the ballooning number of heroes Blizzard shits out twice a year.

It's a fucking casualized TF2 clone, people.

It looks, walks and talks like a F2P game. Why will it cost money? Silly Blizzard.

And people will still argue they are not pandering to tumblrinas.
It was impossible to argue they weren't when only 5-10 characters were known. Now it looks like a fucking circus. I'd rather have 40 shit-coloured whales than this group of special snowflakes.

Got into the stress test beta. Played a bit. Visually impressive but a watered down console shooter. No idea why they have 20+ characters other than marketing/microtransactional reasons. Going to be a pain in the ass to balance them all. Might spend time on it if it were free but probably not. Zero chance with it costing $40. If this didn't have Blizzard's name on it, it would flop pretty hard.

Gearbox is a fairly big name given Borderlands. Hi-rez... meh... didn't they make Global Agenda about five years ago? That was a relative flop, too.

Overwatch will sell millions of copies because of Blizzard's name/marketing/legion of fans. Much like Hearthstone. It is not a particularly innovate game. It's sticking their brand on a pre-existing product without doing much in the way of improving things (and salvaging all the time/money that went into developing Titan).

People think TF2 is 'cartoony.' Overwatch is that times 10 with derpier shooting and unlimited ammo/cooldowns.

They made smite which is p. succesful, and Tribes Ascend which had a lot of potential before they fucked up.

Wow... they've pooped out a lot of stuff. Wonder why they're making something else if they're currently doing Smite.

Oh, Overwatch is also only 6on6. So it's closer to a 'MOBA' style of competitive game than a team-based FPS.

The only PC competitive fps alive is CS and that's 5v5 so yeah.

I can't even think of any shooter that's not 1v1 or around 5v5.

Smite makes them enough money to expand. Unless you are like Riot or some shit being a single game company is probably neither profitable nor smart.

What happened to Tribes?

Pay2Win weapons got introduced, playstyle-defining shit was behind grindwall, Bella Omega got gutted, worst of all they've implemented speedcaps for flag carriers. Hi-Rez dropped all support for T:A once they've got the ball rolling with Smite, same as they did with Global Agenda when Tribes started to get popular. There are now patches on test server that bring the game closer to Tribes 2 and roll back most of the stupid shit but I don't think it will revitalize the game.

My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.
I always considered games like Overwatch, Lawbreakers and whatever the fuck Gearbox was making MOBAFPS hybrids rather than class-based shooters like TF2, because aforementioned games will most likely have a large roster of unique special snowflake characters with their own unique special snowflake abilities locked behind a paywall, as opposed to class-based shooters who have a limited amount of characters/classes, and each class is properly balanced around their strengths, roles and weaknesses in the game.
MOBA(FPS) characters usually fit in three/four 'archetypes' of DPS/Tank/Healer/whatever with a different enough set of abilities and stats that allows them to stand out from other characters in that same archetype. Although these abilities usually come down to DO ALOT OF SINGLE TARGET DAMAGE-skill, AREA OF EFFECT-skill, MOVEMENT RELATED-skill, TEAM BUFF-skill, and ULTIMATE I KILL U-skill. In the end you're just shooting and moving around while spamming abilities as if you were playing WoW, while classes in class-based shooters all have their own unique style of playing, at least compared to MOBAs.

But more importantly, you can introduce as much new characters in MOBAs as you want without upsetting the balance too much, so you can sell those new characters in the future to braindead Mountain Dew-breathers.

TF is 12v12 because you have 9 classes that all are useful and fulfill different roles. Competitive CS:GO is 5v5

TF2 has (had?) a competitive 6v6 environment where you only see Soldiers, Demomen, Medics and Scouts. These classes combine versatility with high speed and high damage application, plus the Medic for heals.

The other 5 classes of the game look outright stupid by comparison.

Hmm yes, Metro is talking nonsense again, turns out that competitive TF2 usually is 4v4, 6v6 or 9v9 (Highlander).

'Competitive TF2?' No such thing, honestly. Most servers are 12v12 and the many hours I've played I rarely saw a server with fewer than 10 people on both sides. I'd say sign Begmetal and Unbeggable Beg up for Overwatch but they'd have to pay money.

Yeah, you are retarded. I've seen maybe one or two organizations that have 'competitive' TF2. Less than fucking Hearthstone. Not that it's even relevant since Overwatch is limited 6v6 and the vast majority of people play TF2 10v10 or greater.

Also, does CS even have classes? In Overwatch the characters can't change weapons or abilities so it's even more moronic to limit it to 6on6 when you have a stable of 20 or so. That is basically MOBA design. Big difference when you pick 6 of 9 or 9 of 9 versus 6 of 20+ whatever they add in the future.

And these aren't mild iterations/variations, they differ wildly. You have a fucking knight with a shield and a hammer, a huehue with a speed/heal beatbox, a robot that can plant itself in the ground and act as a turret, a chubby Asian girl that can freeze people and erect massive walls of ice to block the way, Pudge with his hook move and a shotgun, a monkey with a Tesla gun, a Darksiders dude who can use bullet-time and teleport around the map... yeah no problems with 6on6 there...

This is nonsense as Dota 2 has no paywall and every individual hero has huge implications for overall game balance. Don't lump every game with League of Legends.

It's 6v6 because they liked how TF2 plays 6v6, simple as that.

The biggest issue with competitive TF2 was that Valve didn't get a serious grip with the game and were happy milking hats. It would have been successful if Valve invested in it like in dota. But that happened when they weren't aware of the amount of money they can make without whoring up their games and were even ignoring CS.
