Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming! Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
b... but...

why?

If you like it and you're doing it for fun then that's great, but why do you need money in that case.

I just replayed Arcanum a few months ago and I only had one minor bug with a side quest. No other issues whatsoever, i just installed drog's patch.

And for the JavaScript trolls: Learn something about Typescript and ES2017. Or go and tell the npm.com's and Node.js' devs that they wasted their lives, because you think that JavaScript sucks and applications and games written in JS are completely wrong.

Ever heard of HTML5? WebWorkers? WebGL? Go learn something.

Have a nice day,
Max

I work as senior software developer. Quite proficient with JavaScript.

I also work with Unity. Just like you do, probably. And you know what I use there? C#. Because when you try to get JavaScript to work with huge enterprise projects you suck all the JavaScriptness out of it. In case of Unity you turn it into a quasi-OOP language a la C#. Those application you talk about still usually have web at their core, plus you have endless apps that were initially made as web app and later repackaged as web apps with wrapper to various platforms.

Also why did you link Nasdaq Private Market? Is it because their site uses JavaScript?

This defense of a simple tool does not create a good impression.

That would not be needed, as you can upgrade the project to new language revision and technologies if it's needed. I already upgraded the code from ES5 to ES2017 in a few days.

Will it require dual EPYC 7601s and PCIEx4 RAID0 SSDs to run at smooth 60 fps?

They probably use Unity. In this case it would be fine probably. Because it's not acually the same stuff that happens in your browser, it's a language that looks just as JavaScript but executed more or less like C# code. The difference would be that JavaScript code would be harder to read and support, especially in a game with complex logic, and I suspect Arcanum's tactical combat and AI has complex logic.

If they use WebGL (though it's a mystery why would they do it apart from crossplatform support, as if anyone dreams of playing Arcanum on a tablet) for some reason then it will probably be slower but still quite playable. Nowadays you can run assembled code in your browser, not just script. But I suspect we've heard about WebAssembly by now. Anyway Arcanum is simple enough to be launched in broswer.

Also you can make a tram using a loaf of bread and knitting needles. The question is why would you do that?

Have you ever heard of Emscripten? In Unity, when you're exporting the project to web runtime, all the C# code is being recompiled to JavaScript using Emscripten in order to make them runnable in web browsers.

And about OOP, I'm using ES2017... it does have classes and other OOP features.

OpenArcanum will run in HTML5 capable browsers as well. JavaScript and WebAssembly is the future.

I should mention that this is not a commercial project. Unity is not a good choice if you want to make a game engine reimplementation. Also, I want to allow players to easily mod the game. JavaScript is much simpler to understand for newbies than is C#.

Originally, OpenArcanum was written in C++ and I would rewrite it to C# already if I thought it was a good idea.

Do you have any comments about Arcanum's combat? Why it's buggy? What is this "A new and better battle system"?
