As far as I understand they are to release a demo version later on so everybody can try the game before paying. I don't find the price too much if there is good content in the game and I certainly don't believe such games should be given away for free generally. There are countless hours of work in such a product after all.

As I've posted before, apparently their business model works - there's no denying that seeing how physical copies got sold out in under two days. So kudos to them.
I'm just perplexed as to why and how it works.

In an age where everything is free, nothing has value.
You have more of an incentive to play if you pay for it.
If you live next to a clean river and get water for free, does the water have no value? There's also lots of things besides indie games that cost money like gas or groceries, if you were going for that angle. For this specific case, around 0$ is actual the value that the game has.
As for an incentive to play, there are better ways like not starting a new game until you finish/hate and drop one you already started(play a limit of 4 at once).
Your adage sucks.

Edit: you were talking about the game price said:
Thanks for your interest! The price for the Digital Edition is actually currently $19.99. It's setup as a sale price marked down from $25.

Anyone know how long does it take to play through Nox Archaist?
On a first no-hint playthrough, 50-100 hours. Depends on how much of a completionist you are, and what kind of speed you play at (original hardware or accelerated emulation).
Just to give you an idea, an accelerated speedrun of the full main quest can be done in a couple of hours, less with shortcuts.

One of the testers told me roughly as long as Ultima 5 if you go in blind. Just his guess though

Nox is massive, at least U5 size. But when you can play accelerated in an emulator, and given the quality of life improvements in UX, it can play much faster

Tilesize is the same (256x256), landmass is 2/3 of U5, but underworld is MUCH bigger

edit: rikkles was the tester (why did his post show up after I posted?)

Because it needed moderator approval.
Overall Nox is the same breadth as Ultima V, but the quality-of-life UX improvements make you gain a lot of playing time.

Haha wow: https://www.6502workshop.com/2020/12/woz-announces-his-appearance-as-npc-in.html

Woz announces his appearance as an NPC in Apple II RPG Nox Archaist!

To say that we are insanely excited about this is an understatement!

We are immensely honored that the inventor of the computer that Nox Archaist is written for appears as a character in the game.

When you find Woz, he'll talk to you about Apple computer history and share some of his favorite jokes.

I killed the Orc Shaman and it corrupted my game. 10/10 GOTY! :smug:
That’s very surprising. What’s your configuration? Are you using emulator aave states? This should be avoided at all costs.

I asked Woz about Captain Crunch, but he didn't have anything to say.
