I know I am the only one here but I am glad someone brings back 3rd Person exploration in Party based CRPGs back. Most 3D CRPG in the 2000s had it and it so much more immersive for me to directly control my character's movement than looking down on them.

I don't care what game you are making, if you have orcs, I am gonna be unashamedly racist towards those evil scum. And, if you claim your 'orcs' are peaceful herbivores who love everyone, those aren't orcs. Orcs - BY DEFINITION - are evil violent monsters.

This is not the greatest problem. Watched a combat video and seems full of cooldowns and low lethality combat... Unless the story is amazing and there are no stat stickie gear, I will not buy/play this game.

When it's a close-up third person perspective with direct control (WASD or arrow keys to move), then the combat should be action combat.

When the combat is RTwP or TB then it should be a more zoomed out perspective with mouse control.

Mixing the two feels weird, doesn't fit together.

post the new stuff then you dip

Those videos are unlisted, where'd you find them?
Literally on the front page of their Youtube channel plus a few others. Under the banner that says "Development Progress". Unlisted, but not hidden very well if the intention was to keep others from seeing it.

Click the dropdown on the top-right of the video frame for the full playlist.

Hey there Codexers! I am one of the developers of New Arc Line. So glad you found my reddit post!

It was fun to read your discussion. I'm here to clarify some things and answer your questions.

lmao it got turned into an over the shoulder ARPG, you guys got bamboozled

New Arc Line is a third-person ("over-the-shoulder") party-based RPG with the focus on story and player choices. So not an action-rpg, although it has some action elements to it.

No shit. What the fuck is that. It switched genres in the span of two years. Amazing.

Nah, the genre is the same only the perspective changed. The decision wasn't easy, but it allowed us to better show the scale of the world, especially in the city, and hopefully add to player immersion.

Can I ditch the angsty bitches and play solo?

Sure!

Looking at it for a few seconds I could tell it was kotor/nwn/dragon age: origins-style combat. Slava Ukraini!

Heroyam Slava! And yes, you're very close. We are still iterating on combat mechanics, but currently, it does somewhat resemble Dragon Age. We're trying to emphasize the kinetic elements - with powerful punches making enemies fly away and breaking obstacles for example. We chose this model instead of action combat because we have to balance magic spells, various technological weapons, and good old punching, and allow the player more possibilities for character progression.

We unlisted the old videos for a reason and in the following months will release detailed descriptions of combat system, and show you some shiny new graphics too. Stay tuned!

So let me translate things. Not an action game but has action. I hate those. Even the fact that you need to spot and have good reaction in real time to enemies appearing in vanilla Battle Brothers, a TB game, makes me cringe.

Focus on story and choices = a story-fag rpg with a lot a of bad writing, probably SJW crap and fake choices. Hate those too.

No seriously, you said everything that could make me disinterested. Good job considering I actually liked Arcanum for some reason, despite its horrible combat.

Newarcline The fact that you popped your head here on Codex is encouraging. Couple of questions: 1)Arcanum had pretty deep character progression. What about your game? Will it be like Arcanum or like Dragon Age: Origins or like Skyrim? Deep, Ok or Brain-Dead. Are you afraid that modern audience is too dumb (legitimate question, IQ has been dropping for decades). Many devs fear that, and make simplistic games. Immersion, tactical gameplay and storytelling in simplistic games is diminished. Those fears, born out of loud but few complaints on Steam/Discord/twitter paint a picture that only people with PhDs could grasp Arcanum's character progression. 20million+ sold copies of Elden Ring or 3+ million of Kingdom Come or popularity of Dwarf Fortress/Rimworld etc show that you can make deep game and sell multiple million copies

2) Who's your Daddy Publisher or do you plan Kickstarter campaign/ Steam Early Access? Without mana, no spell can be cast. Without money, no game can be made. Too much money is usually bad, I guess that's not your problem. Little money, can be even good, stimulating passion, and creative thinking to overcome challenges. Also too little money can be problem. I hope you have just enough money. TLDR: No art can be created without artist suffering. And third and final question...

3)How many genders exist for human species? In other words: What is a woman?

If you fail third question, everything else is irrelevant. You coming from Eastern Europe, from country that is going through a lot of suffering right now, gives here hope that great art can be created

It's too late for you to go back to turn-based combat, isn't it?

I love turn-based combat done well too, but it just wasn't working for what we're trying to achieve here.

1)Arcanum had pretty deep character progression. We want character progression to be pretty deep with several mutually exclusive paths players could take to add replayability. The game will also have skill checks for actions and dialogues, stats, and ability tree with a possibility to evolve into Magic\Tech\Common classes. Each party member will also be customizable - upper, lower body, hats, boots, etc (it will affect an outfit). Maybe one inventory for all the party, but clothes and equipment heavily affect combat and relations, and most of all - Magic\Tech alignment.

There won't be any Early Acces or Kickstarter campaigns, we've secured funding to finish the development.

What is a woman?

Haha, you don't know? You should probably go outside and talk to one.

Ok, lets translate what was said: Game will be steampunk Dragon Age: Origins, which ain't bad at all. You're financed by Ukranian tycoon who got rich selling destroyed russian tanks to metal scrap. And you're afraid to say human species has two genders in case anyone screenshots that and trannies on Twitter start screaming. If you think world where denying reality and living in fear that your entire life, job and company can go under cause you said simple truth is worth fighting for, keep fighting your fight. Insanity will only grow. Slava to Mad Clown World Order!

So long as they don't turn their logo a shade of rainbow for the next month I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they could possibly put out a product that isn't complete shit.

Period.

So, take your 21st century code words, and shovem up your ass, nazis.

Otherwise , seems to have potential...
While I agree that it's perfectly reasonable to be racist against Tolkien's orcs (since they're meant to represent Germans) it seems a bit ridiculous to claim that every subsequent fantasy storyteller has to use them exactly the same way. Isn't ripping off Tolkien the thing fantasy fans have been complaining about for the last century?
