HALP ME RITE A ARTIKAL!

Yeah, you and felipepe (ADwR!!!111) are not qualified to write an article on NWN user-made content and not may ppl are, myself included (a newbie who hasn't even scratched the surface).

Not making mention of CEP and Project Q would be a mistake, though; and if you're gonna name drop authors then I wouldn't miss Baldecaran, Gagne, Savant, Rogueknight 333, Fabien Cerutti, Valine, Alazander, Adam Miller, Rick Burton, Andarian, Tiberius209, Servilan, luspr, Steve B, Akkei (just a few whose works I'm familiar with).

Good luck with your shitty book!

Thanks, that's why I ask for help and got two admins from the NWN Vault to help me. NWN might be thew most complex game to write about.

Just finished the first Aielund act. Really enjoying it so far. Some nice encounters, plenty of alignment choices and technically certainly a top level module...but also very linear so far. Does it get a bit more open later on?

Fairloch is pretty open, but mostly the campaign is linear. Swordflight Chapter Two is largely non-linear (think BG2 Athkatla).

Came across this while researching the NWN user interface.. gorgeous gothic horror GUI for Prisoners of the Mist, a Ravenloft persistent world.

Ah, Ravenloft... how I long for you to receive more attention in the genre; it's high time..

Did you ever play on this PW? I would like to try some multiplayer questing on a NWN1 PW, but i'm afraid these worlds will be empty.

I'm pretty sure Prisoners of the Mist has dedicated players; they also recently had some kind of "event" to encourage new blood. Never played on PWs, though.

Yeah, but it's annual and it just ended :negative:

I guess Prisoners of the Mist is the best choice, although that Hill's Edge PW you mentioned earlier looks great. I didn't see it on the list of online servers though.

Swordflight is pretty fun i have to say it actually makes investing in heal a good choice as half the enemies give you poison or disease effects to the point where playing through after my first go as a druid ( i stopped at lvl 10 as i got the urge to re roll so still gotta finish it) is pretty traumatizing, i did not realize how much i hated imps until fighting them as a fighter, all those dex poison stacks cut your AC to shit.

Have to thank Lilura for pointing it out.

Hey, you're welcome!

A good introduction to Rogueknight 333's dungeonmastering is Snow Hunt. Great lil' bounty hunter module that can be completed in one sitting, and isn't as difficult as Swordflight (though it does have its moments). I played it through four times, after I completed Swordflight for the 2nd or 3rd time. Wrote a walkthrough for it, too.

Is project Q worth getting or should I just install individual graphics mods?

I'm playing through the Swordflight series now - I'm very pleased with the first one and just started the second one, though I'm thinking of replaying the first with a different char, I kinda messed this one up. It was a druid who I wanted to go druid/monk/shifter, but made him true neutral and surprise, surprise it can't be a monk. Anyway... played through it with a pure druid and the ruins dungeon was brutal. I used animal companion (Dire wolf) and summons extensively and when they died I was kinda fucked, though I should've bought more medkits I suppose. I couldn't get up to Wildshape in the first module. Rogueknight really knew how to ramp up the tension after a certain point. There were a lot of secrets and puzzles to discover and I could talk to animals! It also had a lot of opportunities for alignment shifts. All in all a great module. I played a little of chapter 2 and my jaw hit the floor when a rat in a sewer told me where to find treasure and that led me into a new dungeon which was a mini-version of the ruins from the first one. Soooo, yeah, I think someone (maybe Larian or VD, I don't trust Obsidian) should hire Rogueknight as a designer.

You could've used Leto to change your alignment. I've made that mistake before too.

It's good, but has the usual downsides of custom content, like not meshing entirely well with the original art assets if you're going to use those. And some areas really are not tailored to NWN's camera, like the new forest tileset they have where the tree leaf models are constantly blocking out the camera. It is a LOT of really high-quality content vis a vis NWN1's low poly budget, though. If you want art custom content, it's the best pack. Too bad the player models are still godawful. I don't think that's going to change, and it makes it really hard to ever play NWN1 again.

I think I'll just stick with some basic mods to not clash with the style then. Did anyone ever replace the ugly barkskin texture? I know there are mods to remove it but I just want it to look better or just be a brown tint like IE games.

NWN Alignment Manager.

the ruins dungeon was brutal.

Hell yes, that dungeon is a TRU oldskool meat-grinder. I love it.

As for Swordflight Chapter Three, I recently asked him about it (comments section), but basically:

Play-testing and finishing touches: 2 months (release around late June).
"Very rough estimate" of game length: 25-30 hours.
He will write an in-depth walkthrough for this one, too.

Ah, great, I thought he stopped working on it.

What I also loved about the module is the slow leveling. I recently replayed the first chapter of the Aielund Saga and the leveling was out of control. That is one of the reasons the dungeons in Swordflight remain brutal to the very end (along with smart dungeon layout and difficult encounter design). I just don't know how a rogue would be able to do go through it, it'd need a lot of levels in other classes to overcome the impossibility of sneak attacks. Can you go through the whole dungeon without fighting? I don't think it's necessary to kill anything. I just didn't like how it ended tbh, it was a deus ex machina. The bard could've just said something like "He's still looking for me" and I'd be fine, or maybe she did and I didn't catch it. Or maybe the air elementals could've stepped in.

I just did it with a rogue > 1 level ranger > rogue for the rest of chapter 1 recently, it's not a huge deal. I died and reloaded a fair few times (mostly on those sneak attacking cunts that start appearing right after you get your first magic weapon). Fought every fight bar that one right before the end, the flesh construct and the guardian you can pick-pocket(/rib). Was permanently buffed with cats grace/bulls strength/endurance though, and UMD to use lots of wands came in handy (there's a rod that added barkskin to my perma-buffed list). Most undead enemies didn't have that high an AB I suppose, a shield and buffed dex (light armour) meant I was rarely getting hit. Living enemies got wand of sleep/stinking cloud. Infinite heal kits and a decent heal skill kept me topped up between encounters.

Slowly going through chapter 2 now, hell of a lot of fun. Thanks Lilura btw, not sure which thread I read you recommending it, perhaps I just saw it on your site, but wouldn't have noticed this without that. And also thanks felipepepe , one of your lists mentioned Maimed God Saga, which I played and enjoyed just before trying SF.

Do any decent HD packs work properly with Swordflight? I kind of want to play these modules but I realize now after repressing it for so many years that I have graphics whore fag tendencies. I'm able to look myself in the mirror now about it. Some of my all-time best cRPG memories were with NWN1 modules. So, any recommendations for making Swordflight look pretty and keeping the gameplay bug-free? I was hoping that D:OS would fill the gap of good user modules but that never materialized.
