Hrmm, so it looks like people who were in the previous beta weekend aren't allowed in this one unless they've paid? Pretty stingy for a "F2P" mmo.

Personally I've gotten everything I wanted out of it. I would think extended playing time in the beta is just going to spoil the fun but then again I'm not nearly as obsessed with MMO's and OCD as others are.

I've seen enough of the game to know I'd like to play it, I can imagine it's only going to be improved by release, and I'm content to wait until then.

There aren't really any healers. The cleric ostensibly has heals, but they are balanced to be much, much weaker than potions, and he gets a -50% healing received penalty for any heals he casts on himself.

GOTTA BREAK THAT TRINITY. Aren't you grateful?

Based on what I tried out, Cleric uses a passive AoE component and dual damage/heal mechanic instead of active healing of the party.

Who needs heals when you've got a 7' long sword strapped to your back that's so sharp it easily penetrates six inches into the ground every time you stop to look at something?

And then you stop to loot something and the sword clips through your chest. You'll need healing then.

I'll give a rundown of what's new in the cosmetic side of things tomorrow, as usual.

Can I buy a sparkly pony for $25? Or have they not leveled up their jewery to Blizzard tier yet?

And trinity is certainly better if the only alternative is everyone doing everything so that they all end up the same, just maybe with slightly different looks.

I am so tired of "next generation" MMO's trying to break a mold that works and replace it with one that doesn't. But that's neither here nor there.

Some stuff they added that I will might maybe possibly test tomorrow:

- In-game tailor is in.
- Each race and class got additional quests of its own now.
- You now choose and upgrade your powers, system apparently has lots in common with Champions (upgraded up to Rank 3, etc), only first five levels have auto-purchases now.

Here's the devblog about power progression, in case you'd like to know more:

Functionally, picking my powers to max out instead of picking which powers I can use differs in only one way: changing them will be more difficult since I will not want to use powers that aren't maxed out. Clearly this is a cosmetic change for stupid people who also like to open their mouths.

Comparatively, their 'paragon path' specialization sounds a lot more interesting and better designed.

160 dollars...holy fuck. Yeah I can live without being a Hero of the North.

Edit: But it's a 700 dollar value!

Robe of Useless Items

Drops a piece of useless junk on the ground when activated. (one per character)

Wonder how much they calculated that to be worth? $50 maybe?

Most of the value comes from the cross-character benefits like additional inventory, respec token, mounts, companions and the like, and the character slots.

Still, it's nowhere near as much of a good deal as the CO or STO LTS were, which also paid back month by month (currently the C-Points/Zen monthly stipend has "paid back" my Champions LTS) in addition to just having plain more stuff.

EDIT: Took a look around today. Not much new in terms of options (maybe one or two face tattoos or something), but textures appear to be more polished now and there are more color options across the table (in some cases, we're talking four times as many, ie Tiefling skin colors).

Besides that, there's little visual touches here and there, for example Arcane Mastery now has a visual effect counter around the right hand of the Wizard (each stack appears to be presented by a small blue floating glyph).

It also seems that Limit Breaks (or Once-Per-Day powers, if you wish to call them that) got reshuffled either for testing purposes or whatever. Wizards now have Oppressive Force instead of the Ice Storm as the level 4 power, for example.

Also, using the tailor will be 200 Zen a pop, which is tantamount to highway robbery I say!

How much is Zen worth in USD?
100 Z = 1 USD, minimum purchase is 500 Zen. There was a lot of confusion way back when they switched from Cryptic Points to Zen, since Eurofags and lots of others were used to the way CP was pegged to 100 = 1 EUR, so the entire catalogue was changed and some people thought they were being ripped off because they failed at math.

Gotta have those cash sinks, though.
Well, it's a p. lame cash sink all things considered. STO and CO have pretty cool cash-shops, seeing how the primary stuff is account-wide purchases with infinite claiming. Still, it remains to be seen how this one develops, though at least your clothing changing is free (so you just pay to get a facelift, which is why I rerolled Ashur and made him forever handsome).

I'm looking to try this out when it comes into open beta. Loots like some fun. These guys seem to be pretty good at making fun MMO's. STO turned out pretty good, but I only started playing after they made all those enhancements to ground combat.

By the way, the games nameplates sorta remind me of LOTRO. Is this being made on a modified version of that games engine?

To me this game is a pedestrian hack n slash, where everything else has been tacked on. The gameplay isn't responsive enough for true skill, and compensates by making the encounters balls easy. This is basically a game which offers a town, some empty button mashing, and horseshit customization. I don't care how good the Foundry is, if my character is and always will be third rate ass. As sick as I am of wow clones, they at least held my interest more than this shitfest. Why are all the skill checks, encounters, and quests exactly the same? I can't think of a single hack and slash as shallow and worthless as this game (except for Gauntlet 7 Sorrows) and that's saying a lot. For this system to work, the combat needs to be tight, the encounters have to be smart, and the questing areas need variety. This game fails so hard in all of these categories it's almost laughable. This was a good idea for a game, and a lot of it is well polished. Sadly all I did for the 20 hours I played this fucker was follow the yellow brick road, while left clicking, and hitting f and w. Neverwinter does many things but none of it well, and there was never a time I didn't question what the fuck was I doing playing it. The best D&D game would have been a combination of Turbine's 2 MMOs but set in the Realms with Cryptic's Foundry supplying endless adventure in a vast land we can virtually live in. Every motherfucker on the planet knows this but the SOBs in charge of these games. Fuck those idiots, they don't know D&D and more importantly they don't know MMO's. PW need to shut these fuckheads down b4 th......Oh fuck it who cares.

So long suckers. I'll see you in Hell!
