It should be a deck-building roguelite twin stick shooter with extensive gender and romance options.

Here's my demands for Arcanum 2:

I hope it never gets released and that the IP stays dead and buried forever - because someone making a sequel in the current gaming environment would lead to nothing but tragedy.

I read somewhere that Arcanum's overland map (which is superb IMO) allowed players to travel overland in realtime (if they so chose; and were masochistic enough to do it ;) )... such that it was possible —but took 48 real hours— to walk from coast to coast.

I'd want that retained in an Arcanum sequel.

inXile is working on an untitled ?RPG? in an Arcanum-like setting.

And we all know it will be shit.

who could do justice to something incredible as this :( probably no one in this day and age where everything is "stupid 3D" and "copy and paste":

That person would most likely die of boredom.

Loaded it up after many years and the map is as boring as i remember it, though there are parts of brilliance too, like in some cities where the game actually looks pretty decent and at least a little effort has been spent. The game could become a looker with some added and more varied art assets. Not sure how difficult it is to mod, guess it's similar to FO2. Might look into it (currently working on the FO2 mod "Yesterday"), it's pretty fun to mod these older 2D games actually.

In this quote I was unclear; I did mean the mechanics of how the map feature works—not the map itself. ;)

No one is intended to be awestruck by the vast green abyss of bad foliage; it is that the travel encounters are relatively positioned.

I really wished that they had done Fallout 3's overland map this way; it could have given us a true slice of the continent... as Fallout 1 & 2 had done...

...rather than a 16 square mile patch of land, where everything is just over the next hill. :(

OP is clearly on drugs/suffering from some sort of nervous breakdown

Just weed and sleep deprivation.

You can't do it, UNLESS you break nercomancy first.
Because if zombies can do most of the manual labor in an industrial society, it's going to quickly become a society of plenty, a utopia. So necromancy has to come with serious drawbacks.

I recently read a fantasy in which they discovered after a while that zombies actually do have a portion of their soul and they do feel immense pain in all their rotting flesh and worn out joints, etc, but they can't do anything. They're locked in, it's literally hell. So this created an outcry and the practice was banned, but it's still practiced illegally by some.

Another way would be to raise the cost. For example, to raise a zombie, you have to kill a living creature of the same species. Then the society could try killing embrios, but you can see how that's still very problematic.

A lot of solutions. But you can't have vanilla Arcanum necromancy and "account for it in a working economy".

It would obviously be banned Arcanum-wide. Probably because of some past event with one of those constantly utopia-mongering necromancers, but you make a good point. Let it become a society of plenty, although I very much doubt the utopia part.
Arcanum means secret in Latin. There can be any plausible explanation for why it was secret and from whom. There was an entity in the sky that was an apocalyptic level of event, but through unified magical efforts they managed to make the entire continent secret from it. It coincided with the proper geographic discovery of the entire continent, which was necessary for the task. Whatever.
Latin can be explained as well.
Your grievance is logical, but only in that it requires an explanation.

That's a pretty good explanation. My heart is still broken from finding out that it was not pronounced Arkanoom with the second a pronounced as in car. I only realized it when I believe Nasrudin said it out loud.
Why are we even discussing this? Who is going to make Arcanum 2?

Sorry I was sleep deprived and figured I'd troll grpgd with my own Arcanum fantasy. I only realized later that people could get their hopes up from the title

It can still be an interesting plot point when it is banned in the gameworld.

every game bans it though

how about robber barons in early industrial times controlling the means of production through undead

no one can earn a wage, the jobs are being outsourced to those who understand necromancy, there are revolts, the rich get richer the poor get poorer

you are the reason we keep repeating the same shit storywise you should feel shame

you can choose to side with the rich and individual freedoms, or you can side with urban workers who can't earn a wage, and against the rights of factory owners to use undead labor

Thanks for making me imagine a 3D open world Arcanum sequel with quest marks, repetitive minigames, preorder bonuses, timed events, leveled loot and collectibles.
