We've been offered a Tin Mine down South by Xanadu. It's on a mountain, free if we want it. Apparently no major cities down there (though a lot of places are unpopulated).

Issues around setting up camp, relocating etc... Not certain entirely where it is but cue continued discussion... We moving camp?

Tin is a bit crap. Bronze would be better and Gold awesome but it's likely we can find more mines.

We also aren't entirely certain where everyone is. There may be settlements nearby.

Take the poll!

Mines can be dug dry.

So in worst case scenario, you end up with a dry mine in a shitty location.

Also, unless new mines are spawned, quite a bit of the world map has been already prospected, so I wouldn't take finding a new mine as a certainty. A lot of people have more mines than they can manage though.

Also, steelworks in this game is pretty hard core.

In order to produce steel, the Crucible has to remain lit for ONE INGAME WEEK

I'd say we move to a new town once we find a good mine (iron or precious metal). So for tin, I'd say just build a mining outpost.

Once I get the agility and gear, I'll head out north again.

north east looks pretty good. there is a giant lake with sandbeach, and quite a lot of cliffs, so caves should be findable. would be nice if we could get a group together for scouting.
no signs of construction past a certain point.

Meh I wanted to vote northeast but selected the wrong button.

I think if we keep the main village as it is right now and build a mining camp downsouth. Maybe even use a bunch of alts to make a village and crossroads but still just mining.

As for moving the main village northeast. I think that we should find a mine there first than plan around it.

I say gather more info first. We have the capability to trade for what we want and our current location is convenient enough for trade.

As far as where to look for mines, the northeast sounds good to me.

There's a walled off village to far North from your Q82 Clay spot. I saw it yesterday when sailing to see just how far the map goes. It's a good 15+ minutes by the boat. There wasn't anyone around to talk to, though. Just something to keep in mind if you decide to search for mines in that area.

By the way, how you even left that Q82 spot and the cave nearby up for taking for so long... now both are gone. Silly codexians.

it is against etiquette to claim high resource spots. we will be getting that clay back, unless we move.

found a mountain around 15000 -96300. seems to be without mine so far.

Apparently a decent iron mine was found tonight, with a claim nearby though. From the sound of things, if we acted quickly we could move in and be able to claim it, however.

claim nearby, but not on the mine itself?
i say we claim it, build a palisade, and place a statue inside.

oh right, i should elaborate.

while hunting in the nordlands Chef and I ran across a mountain retreat that was walled off and claimed by a guy named Wolfmar.

The wall was destroyed on the southern end and we snuck in, went over his relatively small claimed area, and grabbed a pickaxe, metal saw, smithing hammer, miner's helmet, and went to town on his iron mine. We were looking at bringing back 4 cupboards full of iron ore until shit got too real.

due to a series of crashing and lagging i got fucked over into being forced to spawn at my hearth fire (game crashed while i was carrying a cupboard) and so a lot of mined iron was left there at the site. we already have over a cupboard's worth full.

When i respawned i dumped what was in my inventory in a basket and left it in front of your new house in the clay area, DU. i was on my way back with Zpang in tow when the fucking game went down for everyone.

we're waiting on it to come back to carry through with the 30+ minute boat ride to the area.

Chef_hathaway has his hearth set in the mine tho, so at the least we got someone there - unfortunately the pickaxe is equipped on my character. I'll be up for hours still so I'm hoping to get there by tonight and store some more away in cupboards - as well as mapping the river-forks for future endeavors.

worries: the land is claimed, the stuff we took was on unclaimed land but we're not sure how in use this mine is. from the looks of it the smelter was decayed to the point of no use but the mine itself wasn't all that hollowed out. I practically doubled the cave size in the brief time we were there.

leading to the mine itself were 2 runestones with Italian gibberish - Chef and I believe that Italians either own it, broke in and raided it, or some fucker just left Runestones saying the same Italian shit all over it.

Items we found there: q21 pickaxe, q33 smithy hammer, q10 metal saw, q10 miner's hat, q50 bow, random bear cape, tea that we used while mining (3 pots worth), about 6 or so roughly quality 10 silkmoth eggs, some q55 water, a decayed smelter, a cart, some other barrel, buckets.

Currently we have a boat and two cupboards inside, one should be full of iron ore already, and Chef_Hathaway was building more cupboards.

Also - total respect for Hathaway for actually seeing the wall that was broken down, as I hadn't seen it and was planning to head back with our relatively good hunting haul.

the personal claim overlaps the mine's entrance a bit, but not entirely. you can enter the actual 'hole' as its not in claimed area.

if we can throw a village claim on it and devour it, we can safely establish a second mining operation there.

that xanadu dood whose nick i keep forgetting said many mines are claimed but derelict.

if wolfmar (hm, german?) has any complains, we can always pay him off. especially if it was neglected.

It's weird, I checked the runestones in the mine itself and they don't have anything written on them, and there are no hearths nearby, no houses and everything is decaying. It looks abandoned, for all intents and purposes.

It's Wolfram, actually, which really made me think it was a German. but again there are no signs of activity.

I think this might be an abandoned mine then? The guy, Wolfmar, seemed to have rather hard to get stuff lying around which leads me to believe that 1) he won't miss a single mine enough to wage war 2) he's already left this place and won't be back or 3) fuck him its a game about survival

also - there was no hearth fire by the mine or in the palisaded area - only Chef has his hearth there and the wall was obviously breached by someone else - donno why they would leave some of the stuff they did tho, unless the original thieves were just that much better off

claiming it seems like the sensible choice to me.
not sure if i can come back on when the server rises triumphant from the ashes, but don't mine it without me until you get full industry. nobody knows when we'll find the next one.

we also need to decide whether to stockpile the iron till we can make hql bars out of it, or use it right away.

Ok!

If we can scrounge up 3 dreams I can stake a personal claim on/around the area - and I raised my industry slider 1 before the log out - i'll try to max it out and mine it up

I have a dream that I found while hunting today, if I'm still up when server gets back up I'll be sure to give it to you.
