I've never understood paid crossover DLC. Yes, I'm such a fan of this game, I want to pay to look like I'm a character from that game while I'm playing yours instead of just playing that game. Retarded.

You just spelled out their thought process right there. Your average whale doesn't care about the sensibility of their purchase, they just care about the surface-level shit and/or bragging rights.

Hey I think I read about this happening. Like 406 BC, right? AC teaches kids about history. It's awesome.

As if any more arguments were needed to avoid this dick-line...

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Steam page confirms Denuvo DRM and account linking

Far Cry 6, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, AC Mirage, and other Ubisoft games all use Denuvo Anti-Tamper, and require players to connect their Steam accounts to Ubisoft Connect – and the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be no different. According to the new listing for the stealth RPG that has just appeared on Valve’s store, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will also require players using Steam to link their account to Ubisoft Connect. The game is also protected by Denuvo, a third-party DRM (digital rights management) solution that is used by a variety of triple-A developers today.

...

In the past, players have suggested that Denuvo might affect the technical performance of PC games. The company has disputed these claims – in a recent interview, product manager Andreas Ullmann said that Denuvo “simply works.” Games that require players to link their Steam accounts with other platforms have also been controversial. Earlier this year, Helldivers 2, was review bombed after publisher PlayStation mandated that Steam players connect their accounts to the PlayStation Network. PlayStation later retracted the account linking requirement for Helldivers 2, though it is still present in some of the publisher’s other games, such as Ghost of Tsushima.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ requirements are consistent with other Ubisoft games including Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Far Cry 6. Skull and Bones requires that players link to Ubisoft Connect, but does not use Denuvo. The Division 2, on the other hand, does not require account linking, but uses another third-party DRM solution called VM Protect.

It was recently rumored that Assassin’s Creed Shadows would also include a battle pass, but Ubisoft confirmed that this was not true. The short early-access period for the stealth game was dropped after the launch date was delayed by three months.

Why even bother releasing it on Steam? People wanna buy on Steam exactly to avoid all other 3rd party bloatware.
Because of the size of the userbase maybe? No sense shooting yourself in the foot when it didn't work out the last time they tried to decouple from steam.

Ubisoft Deep-Dives Into Assassin’s Creed Shadows Stealth Gameplay, Calls AC: Shadows “A New Stealth Philosophy”
Assassins-Creed-Shadows-Stealth-Gameplay-Deep-Dive-e1732224454316.jpg

[Emphasis added]

In another universe and timeline, Assassin’s Creed Shadows would be out by now, and we’d all be playing it instead of reading about how the stealth gameplay is apparently a big change compared to the rest of the Assassin’s Creed series.

That’s in another universe and timeline. In this one, we’re waiting for Shadows to release in February by reading about how the stealth gameplay is apparently a big change for the franchise.

On Thursday Ubisoft published a big deep-dive blog post on its website kicking off what it says will be a “series of posts over the next few weeks” with details about different aspects of Shadows.

To start, this first blog focuses on stealth, and unsurprisingly focuses on the character Naoe, one of the main protagonists in Shadows and the stealthier of the two characters.

Associate game director on Shadows Simon Lemay-Comtois says that the stealth gameplay in shadows “has been ambitiously overhauled in a few key areas,” and that the studios’ approach to stealth this time around is “a new stealth philosophy.”

These big changes seem to boil down to actually being able to use the darkness, and the fact that there won’t be an eagle flying around allowing you to scout out a whole area. Naoe can still use the classic see-through-walls ability, Eagle Vision, but it’s only available to her.

Both Yasuke and Naoe will have access to a new “Observe mechanic,” however, which seemingly lets them mark enemies they can see in their line of sight.

Regarding being able to use the darkness, that’s because Shadows is the first Assassin’s Creed game where being in total darkness will conceal the playersticking to the ‘shadows,’ not just some tall grass, can make you invisible to enemies.

And speaking of tall grass, you won’t just be crouching in it, but going prone, which is another first for the series, since every assassin before them was incapable of lying down.

Though Shadows has a couple of ‘firsts’ for the series, there are also things making a comeback, like Double Assassinations. But they won’t work like they did back in Assassin’s Creed 2.

The RPG-ification of the series is still very much here, and you’ll need to make sure your stealth and hidden blade abilities are levelled up enough to take care of stronger enemies, otherwise they’ll shrug your stealthy assassination attempt off, and you’re caught in a big fight.

Lastly, while the stealth gameplay is almost entirely reserved for Naoe, the blog post does add that if you’re deliberate and slick with a bow and arrow, Yasuke can engage enemies in a stealthy manner himself. By standing very far away with a bow and arrow and then walking right in the front door after the guards are dispatched.

Wow, how much do you want to bet they just pasted patches of tall grass in dark corners and turned the transparency all the way up

Windows 11 24H2 update blocked on PCs with Assassin's Creed, Star Wars Outlaws
Windows-11-red.jpg

[Emphasis added]

Microsoft is blocking the Windows 11 24H2 update on computers with some Ubisoft games, like Assassin's Creed, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, after changes in the operating system cause the games to crash, freeze, or have audio issues.

Since Windows 11 24H2 was released, users have reported on Reddit [1, 2] and the Microsoft Answers forums [1, 2, 3] that Ubisoft games are no longer working correctly.

"Is anybody else experiencing strange lag after the latest windowd update? I can play for some minutes and then crash. I also crash when fadt [sic] travelling, and in the abilities menu. Before the update everything was running smooth," an Assassin's Creed Origins player posted on Reddit.

Windows users
are particularly frustrated as they have been reporting these issues on Reddit and in the Windows Insider Feedback Hub while Windows 11 24H2 was in preview.

"Since updating the Windows 11 24H2 Star Wars Outlaws crashes to desktop suddenly with no error message. Users online report this also happens with the new Avatar game on Ubisoft platforms as well. There is a thread with info about this on Reddit," as Windows 11 24H2 user posted to the Feedback Hub.

When playing the impacted games, the issues are erratic, with some stating the games immediately crash after launching and others saying they crash, freeze, or display a black screen a few minutes after loading a saved game.

Yesterday, Microsoft confirmed that people are having problems playing Ubisoft games after upgrading to Windows 11, version 24H2

"After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games," explained Microsoft.

"These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading or during active gameplay. In some cases, users might receive a black screen."

Microsoft says the affected games are:
  • Assassin's Creed Valhalla
  • Assassin's Creed Origins
  • Assassin's Creed Odyssey
  • Star Wars Outlaws
  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
However, other gamers reported having problems after installing Windows 11 24H2, including Farcry and Activision's Call of Duty.

Ubisoft has released a temporary hotfix for Star Wars Outlaws while they work on a permanent fix.

"Also, we have just deployed a temporary hotfix (v1.4.1) for players who were experiencing issues playing on Windows 11 24H2," explains Ubisoft.

"Please note that you may experience some performance issues while we work on a more permanent fix. As soon as it is ready, we will let you know. Thank you for your patience."

The company has also posted to the Steam Assassin's Creed Origins forum that they are also looking into the issue for that game.

ubisoft-post.jpg

For now, if a game no longer responds, you can open the Task Manager and end the associated process.

Microsoft has now blocked the Windows 11 24H2 update on devices running these Ubisoft games until a fix can be released.

The company also warns users not to manually update the operating system until the issue is resolved.

I think this game is far better than it's given credit for (but I also didn't play all the Far Cry and AC games so when people say it rehashes those and are tired of it, that's probably true and part of my reason for not caring as much). It's cool if you're a Star Wars fan and they've improved it a lot.

That being said, this sort of thing just makes them look desperate and lame and definitely doesn't help their reputation.

Ubisoft employees in Barcelona sue the company — demand to cancel their return to the office
65596.jpg

[Emphasis added]

Ubisoft says that «team creativity» grows better in the office.

Unions at Ubisoft studios, which develop AAA games and mobile projects in Barcelona (Spain), have filed a lawsuit against the Assassin’s Creed publisher over changes to its remote work policy. In cooperation with the Spanish trade union CGT (Confederación General del Trabajo), they demand that Ubisoft abolish the mandatory return to the office and guarantee the protection of remote work by a collective agreement.

The unions claim that despite the willingness of both parties to negotiate, Ubisoft’s management has not put forward any proposals since the lawsuit was filed on October 14, reports GamesIndustry.

The company’s management is planning to introduce a new schedule that requires employees to work from the office at least three days a week. This decision will change the current rules that allow employees to choose 60% of working days per month to work from home. The new requirements will also apply to those who currently work completely remotely.

According to the unions, Ubisoft made the decision suddenly and without proper discussion. They emphasize that returning all remote workers to offices at the same time will lead to logistical problems, as the company does not have enough space to accommodate each employee. Ubisoft has allegedly stated that the mandatory return to the office is necessary for «team creativity» and «better communication», but the unions claim that «management has consistently failed to provide any real tangible benefits to support this measure».

Last month, more than 700 employees of Ubisoft France took part in a three-day strike due to a dispute over work from home and wages.
