Black liquid under the skin, moving in the eyes. Reminds me of the X-files series...

You manipulative bastards. :salute::hug: I almost fell for this...

But no. I am still butthurt over Marius devouring Amberley Vail right before turning to Cain for aid. A waste of a fine woman daemonhost and a betrayal of bro. Nevah again! :argh:

P.S. Incidentally, the epigraph for that update is: The fallen shall be forever remembered as the Emperor's Finest. :salute:

I wonder if it is my paranoia, or if there is something:
Sakimura seems quite annoyed by the grain of condescension you carefully buried in the shell of polite words, but before he can say anything else, the rest of the people from the lobby arrive.

Kayano is at their forefront, her make-up starting to run from the beads of sweat rolling down her cheeks. “Shinoseki-san, so here you are! And I see that Uehara-san is well and fine, which is good. Really, I think splitting off from the group is a bad idea, both of you,” she lectures. You catch her eyes darting towards you more often than not, trying to see if you are concealing anything on your body.
Sakimura was so distressed, Kayano basically had to ran after him, and her comment about Uehara sounds a bit strange.

Did she have a reason to believe Uehara would not be well and fine? It certainly sounded like something she did not entirely expect.

My guess is that Kayano was aware of the sentiments between Uehara and Seiji, and attempted to exploit them. If Uehara killed us, Kayano could just take the book from our body. If we killed Uehara or allowed her to be killed, she would then accuse us of murder and have us overpowered and suspended, taking the book by force. That is why she did nothing to stop us from leaving, but instead incited Sakimura to search for Uehara by talking about us behind our back and making him worry about her safety. He was strangely hostile for a guy we have supposedly just met:
You move away from Uehara and Sakimura, and seat yourself on one of the old couches. The dusty leather squeaks noisily under your weight. As you wait for the others to arrive, Sakimura gives you a hostile glance. “What are you doing there?”
I don't know if that was down to simple jealousy or worse.

Can we ask the team what exactly happened there and what Kayano was telling them about us when we have a quiet moment next? I feel like even though she is gone, she is not done with poisoning our group dynamics with her influence.

It doesn't take much. Kayano probably said something along the lines of Uehara being really shaken by this place, whether Shinoseki could be trusted alone with her, and stuff. Sakimura is a hothead, and is feeling jealous because of his crush on Uehara. Uehara dragged Shinoseki off somewhere, making him concerned about what was going on between the two of them, as he had never heard of Uehara knowing this particular person. Shinoseki's attitude sometimes comes across as being shifty too, and he didn't make a very good first impression when he arrived at the lobby either.

Sakimura is remarkably flip-floppy. From fighting (or rather, attempting to ) back-to-back with us and telling us he will be back with help to treating us like dirt at a first suspicion thrown at us. Not even the fact that they have dismissed the account of his precious Uehara and placed him under surveillance without him doing anything wrong deterred him from switching to Kayano's side.

Is he still mad because we were chosen as a leader? :|

He manages to be pretty annoying for a guy who does not add much to the team. At least Sawada, who is equally useless, keeps a low profile.

Hm, think of him as a hot-headed but well-intentioned character run by another Codex, while Shinoseki is this Shulgi-like character who keeps trying to steal his waifu away.

Well, we always knew Sakimura was going to be flip floppy. He is jealous of us but won't admit it, he doesn't truly think we're a terrible person but would love to.

"Behead those who may be Shulgi." Sounds pretty well-intentioned.

while Shinoseki is this Shulgi-like character who keeps trying to steal his waifu away.
We lack the sophistication to truly become a Shulgi-like character. :negative:

Seriously, when the mood strikes us, we are doing some crazy things that would make Ean and Jing envious if they could feel envy. And not out of want to do something heroic, but sometimes just because.

Killing Taketatsu, crawling over the walkway, diving into the pool, playing tag with spirits far more powerful than ourselves, brawling with zombies and stuffing guns with fingers. Sometimes with little to no rationale behind it. Some of those were because of us trying to be a good guy, but often a less crazy alternative was available at a time. Oh, and let's not forget us trying to jump-scare the ghost.

Shulgi would never do that.

We are literally the devil dwelling in a quiet pond. Usually shy, stuttering and uncertain, but don't you try and stir us.

Wait, are we actually trying to steal waifus? Are the waifus even noticing? It is a bit too subtle. :M

Shulgi was reckless, too, in a way. He bet his whole homeworld in one of his gambits, and lost.

What I am saying, though, is that we have our own, special brand of crazy.

In his perception, perhaps. Like Tigranes said, he thinks we might be an ally to escape this place, but his teenage jealousy over Uehara clouds his thoughts.

Though I withdraw that remark about him being run by another Codex, since I remember that the last time a waifu was friendly to another male and neglected the protagonist for a bit, Codex threw a bitchfit and wanted to dump the waifu.

When was it? I only remember the hazards of being Yunzi's suitor (100% of lethal outcomes), but she was always pining for Jing only, at all times.

And of course it could not be Cao'er or Qilin. Sekhie never did that, either.

Am I forgetting something? Unless we are talking Shun and Gao Ying. I still haven't forgiven that. :M

The Dex can be awfully territorial at times, that much is true.

When was it?

Seriously, the girl has been nothing but trouble: first she gets us out of top class on a whim, then we save her ass from an unwanted courtier and are promptly rewarded by being dragged to "Bumfuckistan In Space" where we proceed to drag her family and BF out of a hostage situation with nukes. And do we even get a thanks or support in return? Nope, she's cozying up to Nahim. And that shows me exactly where we stand: entertaining boytoy for her to play with, or "friendzone" in modern terms. There is absolutely no logical reason for us not to ditch her after this operation, too bad that her death will most likely spark tremendous outrage in the Empire and a "REMOVE WORST CURRY FROM PREMISES!" sentiment.

Baltika9 does not have a right to be offended, not after failing to convince the Dex to go for ultimate GLORY and get laid. :rpgcodex:

Shame on him!

Though now I finally get the reasons for his fascination with Nii-san and YOLO. It is repentance for sins in past lives.:salute:

I'm sick of the ungrateful Shinar. We save the Emperor, the princess, and now the Empress and an entire colony and do we get to screw the princess? No. Instead we end up warming up to the greasy mechanic. My vote is A. Bring on the MHD!

We got a ghost kiss out of that, though. And she saved us from being seduced by Shulgi, which counts for something.

You are right. Shulgi is Ean's, once and forever. The mere thought of us disrupting a 10000 years old loving relationship sickens me!

Kyrie did us all a favor.
