Whenever a phrase like this appears in a horror fiction:

once he turns to the next page, he will be a lot closer to discovering the truth he seeks.

It should be a dead giveaway that it's trap to anyone with half a brain intact

...then again, some people just want to watch the world burn.

Scribbles in the Dark

track: spirit guide

Even though he refuses to read further, the page slowly, but surely, turns, as if moved by an unseen hand. Onii-chan can only watch on in horror.

He is unable to close the book.

He is unable to close his eyes.

He is unable to do a thing.

Flip.

He looks at the scribbled text appearing on the blank pages, a bold scrawl that is slightly childish in its appearance

and he reads

Good thinking

You're pretty smart, Onii-chan

Unfortunately

Flip.

The door to the museum slams shut. The actor, who had wandered back outside while Onii-chan was engrossed in reading the book, starts to bang on it, shouting his name.

Then, a shadow unfolds in a corner of the dusty museum, rising amongst the disembodied limbs. With every unwanted turn of the page, it makes a single action. The effect is rather like that of a flickering stop-motion animation.

Once you have touched it

The curse of the dead isn’t that easy to escape, Onii-chan

Flip.

The shadow’s eyes open, white and red in a sea of black. Staring at him.

But you passed the test, so you can do something about it, like

As Onii-chan reads those words, sensation returns to his body. He realizes that he can move again. His first reaction is to throw the book to the ground, in fear and disgust

Ow, what did you do that for?

The big mean Onii-chan watches on, aghast, as the writing continues to appear and the pages continue to turn. He begins to come to the realization that the shadow in front of him and the writing on the book may be two different entities

That’s right, Onii-chan!

I don't like being stuck with that stupid shade any more than you do!

If you want to get rid of it

Flip.

I can help you

I can help you

You hear the voice in your head at the same time you read those words on the paper; it is the voice of a young girl, bright and cheerful. Is it the book speaking to you? The pages start to flip at a very high speed until it reaches the end of the book, and the ebony cover snaps shut. It lays there on the floor silently, clad in its black bindings.

The shadow begins its approach. It crawls towards you jerkily, emitting a guttural croak as it does so. A black, emaciated hand reaches out hungrily...

***

A. You accept the book's help. The power to defend yourself against the spirits haunting this hospital would be invaluable: you aren't foolish enough to think that you can survive the attention of beings that regularly break all laws of common sense with no rhyme or reason just by running and hoping for the best. You would also be a fool to think that there is such a thing as a free lunch, but you will think of how to deal with that later.

B. You reject the book and make a run for the door. Whatever the book offers, you want no part of it. You suspect that it may be something as dangerous as the hospital itself, even if not entirely beholden to it, and that there will probably be a price to pay. You are not willing to pay it. If you just keep on running and hiding, you are confident that sooner or later you will stumble upon what you need to end this entire mess. There is no need to make such a pact.

C. You make an attempt to grab the book before running. Taking the time to do so seems to be a bit of a close shave, and you risk the shadow catching you before you do so, but the book seems too important to leave behind. You just have to hope that you can move quickly enough. If you can't... well... you don't want to think about what could happen.

D. You throw the chatty little thing at the shadow. It deserves no less. It might even stop the creature in its tracks. Probably.

Nothing. We'll probably have to get our bored imouto a fresh new body, but there are, like, 12 people here and we aren't saving everyone, so it's totes gonna be a-okay.

My guess is that the book is Mitsuki or is related to Mitsuki's fate.

1) It refers to us as Onii. (Mitsuki referred to us as Onii-san rather than Onii-chan; so, it's calling us "little brother" rather than "big brother.") No one else in the story has called us that.
2) It's described as a childish scrawl.
3) The paralysis he experiences:

He is unable to close the book.

He is unable to close his eyes.

He is unable to do a thing.

Sounds similar to what Mitsuki went through in the bathroom--aware, but unable to act.
4) Mitsuki disappeared at the end of the third night; this is the last we heard of her:

Mitsuki-chan was struck by her illness and froze up like a damn board. After that I lugged her with me until I met up with that man, Taketatsu. He grabbed her from me, screaming something about using her as a gift.

She wasn't seen in the fourth night; perhaps she was transformed somehow.

* * *

I'm inclined to believe the book is related to Mitsuki. I'm unclear whether we should think it's actually her or the force that was responsible for her condition. I suspect the latter, due to how it's making us behave, but it seems like it might be complicated.

Tentative A

A I am curious as to where this will go regardless of the likely terrible consequences.
